Chapter 1777

The trinkets were swiftly carried away. Maja watched Number 8's retreating figure and let out asmall sigh of relief.

With Number 8 on the move, another person was keeping watch, but the big question that remainedwas whether the person being escorted away was the real Ian or an impostor.

The two men were dead ringers for each other; even Maja could mistake one for the other in dimlight, and with Number 8 not getting so well with Ian, the chances of a mix-up were high.

So, as they waited for Sarah to react to the trinkets, they also needed to head over to Rachel'slocation. It was crucial to stop that car and check out what was inside.

Meanwhile, Bernard was rummaging through the cabinet for fish food to feed the inhabitants of hislarge aquarium.

The fish scrambled over each other to snatch up the food, and Bernard smiled at the ripples theymade on the water's surface.

He turned to someone beside him and inquired, "Has Rachel taken him away?"

"Yes, she has."

"Good. That girl, I've always trusted her to get the job done right. Anyone looking to snoop aroundwill find themselves tied up with her."

Given Rachel's exceptional skills, any confrontation would surely be an ordeal for both sides.

After tossing the last bit of fish food into the aquarium, Bernard gazed out at the sky, "Then wemove tonight. That'll make things ready for tomorrow's experiment. I've waited years; I won't delayany longer."

"Understood."

What the so-called "move" entailed, no one knew.

At seven in the evening, Maja received a message from Carol. She had previously hinted to Carolthat if she ever wanted to escape it all, she could ask for Maja's help.

Now that Carol had reached out, Maja, no matter how busy, knew she had to make a trip to theMiller family's mansion.

The message from Carol was brief, just four words.

[Maja, goodbye.]

To Maja, Carol had always been the proud, aloof heiress. With the Miller family's fortunes sodrastically changed, was she no longer willing to endure?

Maja knew Carol had been pretending to be happy and had always resisted outside interference inher affairs with Felix - after all, Abner still needed Felix's letter of understanding.novelbin

This message from Carol felt like a cry for help, yet Maja also feared Carol might do somethingrash.

She immediately called Carol, but no answer. She tried Felix next, still no answer.

Maja quickly took a bodyguard and headed straight for the Miller family mansion.

But barely 1.8 miles out, their car was surrounded by a dozen of vehicles. At the same time, Maja'sphone lost all signal - no texts, no calls.

The cars forced them into a secluded area. Pregnant Maja didn't dare let her driver take risks asthey might have in the past; she wouldn't gamble with her life on a high-speed escape.

So, her car was quickly brought to a standstill, and people with guns approached. She opened thedoor and complied with their command to step out.

It was then that Maja understood whom Bernard had been eyeing for another body - it was her allalong.

But what she had not anticipated was that Bernard would entangle Carol's situation too, throwingher into complete disarray.

Sitting in the backseat, watching the landscape whir past in reverse, she knew this must be the roadto that place.

Bernard couldn't wait to start his experiments. Maja sighed softly, her only hope now was that Dylanwould quickly sense that something was wrong.
