Chapter 1431

The murkiness in Augus's eyes dissipated, though he still couldn't speak. Another tear fell, and he

slowly closed his eyes.

Maja's tone grew firm.

"I'm going to find him an antidote, so you might as well stay put, Mr. Sanders. With Dylan gone, thenovelbin

Sanders family needs your steady hand. Others are probably eyeing our assets with envy."

Beck opened his mouth to agree, as the Sanders family was indeed not just the few of them.

Before he could speak, a commotion arose from downstairs, followed by a servant hurrying in with

news.

"Mr. Beck, they've arrived."

A flicker of disdain crossed Beck's eyes before the door was rudely thrust open.

The newcomer bore a resemblance to Augus, but lacked his commanding presence.

This was Augus's cousin, York. The Sanders family rule was strict. The heir was chosen early to

prevent internal strife.

Augus was the lucky one, designated early as the heir, while the rest were sidelined.

York, once a troublemaker, had become a fringe member of the Sanders clan. Yet now, hearing of

Augus's plight, he'd swiftly come knocking.

Dressed in a sharp suit, York's face registered surprise upon seeing the man with graying hair on the

bed, feigning a look of heart-wrenching concern.

"How did this happen to Augus? You young ones, keeping such a significant incident from the family?"

York's gaze settled on Beck, his face masking his thoughts with a smile.

"Beck, what exactly happened? It wasn't a spat between you and that rascal Dylan, was it? Such

discord is strictly forbidden in the Sanders family. The consequences are severe. And just so happens,

your grandparents have finished their retreat. I've informed them about Augus's condition. You'd better

go explain yourself tonight. It seems like the sins of Augus's youth have come back to haunt the family."

After relinquishing control, the old couple of the Sanders family had moved to a tranquil island to live in

seclusion, even building a chapel there.

Both devout, they had recently mentioned a broken rosary, worried for Augus, prompting inquiries that

revealed his coma.

Such significant news had been kept from the family, likely York had heard from Judith.

Beck felt an overwhelming annoyance. He had kept the news well hidden, yet now his grandparents

were emerging from seclusion.

"Uncle York, my grandparents have been resting on the island. There's no need to trouble them to

return."

Beck's expression soured as he instinctively moved to shield Maja.

York was unaware of Maja's identity but recognized Ian and chuckled lightly.

"Beck, it's too late for talk. They arrive tonight. You'd best consider your explanation."

York attempted to approach Augus but was blocked by Beck.

"Please leave."

York's face broke into a smug smile.

"Who would've thought Augus would end up like this? Look at his white hair—I hardly recognized him.

With him out of the picture, Dylan moved out of the mansion, didn't he? I've heard all about it. He's

even resigned his position as CEO. Augus, once so glorious, is now shamed by his most prized son.

Even if he were dead, he wouldn't rest in peace."

He spoke without a wink of sympathy, cursing Augus while he still lived.

Beck couldn't contain his anger any longer, grabbing York's collar.

"Get out! My dad's alive and well. Even if you died, he'd live to a ripe old age!"

York sneered, not at all intimidated.

"Augus used to be so proud, boasting about how Dylan gave him peace of mind. And now look, Dylan's

abandoned the Sanders family affairs. He hasn't even informed the executives where he's headed.

Now that he's no longer CEO, are you taking over, Beck? I recall you've never formally learned to run a

business. Your expertise is more in handling women."

York burst into laughter, his gaze drifting back to the bedridden man, even pulling out his phone to snap

a picture.

But someone stood in his way—a woman.
