Chapter 1391

Zoey's brow furrowed as she noticed the scorn and contempt in the eyes of the other Haskins family

members as Duke flirted with her.

Duke had achieved his goal; he wanted everyone to brand Zoey as a loose woman.

Pressing her lips together, Zoey chose not to argue. In this setting, anything she said would be twisted

against her. It was better to wait for Fitch to come out.

Mia glared at Zoey's face, itching to slap her again, but remembering Fitch's recent demeanor, she

reluctantly stood down.

She thought to herself: Just wait until my brother wakes up, we'll see if he continues to side with this

woman. Then Zoey will get what she deserves..

She was determined to make this despicable woman pay a price!

Meanwhile, not far from the crowd stood a tall man.

He was Ryan Elston's landlord and an outcast of the Haskins family. The Haskins had disowned him for

reasons unknown, and even his own parents had turned their backs on him. During Fitch's supposed

funeral, Arlen Haskins had attempted to attend, only to be met with insults and the door slammed in his

face.

Ryan, who stood by Arlen's side, had changed considerably in the short time since they'd last met. The

air of a spoiled rich kid had been washed away. He had severed ties with the Raymond family and

stopped answering Maureen Raymond's calls. Now he was investing on his own, standing by the side

of his landlord, Arlen Haskins.

Arlen was fidgeting at the end of the hallway, clearly craving a cigarette. When the doctor approached,

Arlen double-checked the news about his cousin.

"He's really going to be okay?" Arlen asked.

The doctor, removing his mask, nodded slowly. "He'll be fine. It’s just a minor concussion. His memory

should return shortly."

Arlen let out a sigh of relief and, after standing around for another ten minutes, finally said to Ryan,

"Let's go."

Ryan was surprised. "Aren't we waiting for him to come out?"

"No need for that."

“Tell me, Arlen, what the hell did you do back in the day to make the Haskins hate you like this, even

including your own parents?"

Arlen just stepped into the elevator.

Ryan followed, slinging his arm around Arlen's neck in buddy-buddy style.

"Don't tell me you're planning to off Fitch and take his place. I can't think of anything else that would

cause this much hate."

Arlen gave him a deep look and suddenly smiled, patting his face. "Mr. Elston, some secrets are best

left unknown, because only the dead men can keep them."

Together, they'd earned a small sum investing in a racing team, which was starting to make a name.

Ryan had cut off his previous social circle and was finding his new life with Arlen and the others to be

fulfilling.

Though not as wealthy as before, he had plenty of friends and got along well with Arlen.

"If you were really into some criminal stuff, you wouldn't be struggling like this now," Ryan chided.

The real money-makers are the ruthless ones.

But Arlen was the type who would feed stray cats by the roadside, which doesn't fit the profile of such a

person.

Arlen ruffled his hair. Upon reaching the hospital's ground floor, he hopped into a nearby convertible.

"Enough talk, Mr. Elston. Get in the car," Arlen said.

Ryan climbed in and glanced back at the hospital with a sigh. "I'm actually a bit worried about my

cousin. The Raymond family's in chaos. My cousin temporarily transferred his shares to Jeff; if Jeff has

other intentions, the Raymond Corporation could change hands."

"You doubting your cousin's judgment in people?"

Ryan's mouth twisted bitterly. "I used to think my mom and my cousin would always be close, but look

how it had turned out to be."

Arlen lit a cigarette. "I've heard Ian's been in the North American underground fighting scene. I’ve been

there once. It's chaotic there, but he seems to have a high status. I have no idea what his position is

exactly, but he's doing well. You better focus on yourself for now."novelbin

"You don't get it! Right now, I'm just eager to make a lot of money and then go back to my cousin."

That was Ryan's wish, but his money-making speed was indeed too slow.
