Chapter 1390

When the Haskins family heard the address, their heads all turned towards the corner of the room.

Previously quiet in the corner, Zoey suddenly became the center of attention.

Her cheeks blazed with a heat she couldn't hide; her posture stiffened.

"Mr. Haskins."

Fitch's brow furrowed at the formality. She usually called him “Fitch” when they were alone, but now it

became “Mr. Haskins”?

He was slightly displeased, "Come here."

Zoey made her way over, acutely aware of Mia's cold, disdainful, even hateful gaze upon her. It all

came back to Mia in a rush: wasn't this the same woman caught in a scandalous embrace with her

brother in his car that very night?

Damn it, this woman was still trying to make her presence felt while her brother was grappling with

amnesia!

Mia glared fiercely at Zoey, but she bit back her anger, knowing that now was not the time to cause a

scene. Her brother's surgery was paramount—

He must remember everything soon, so that the situation with the Haskins family could stabilize.

Fitch caught Zoey's hand, sensing her unease.

"Are you worried about me? It's just a minor operation. The doctor said I'll be awake in three hours."

Zoey's mouth was full of bitteness, but in front of so many people from the Haskins family, it was

inappropriate to be too blunt.

She bent down slowly and whispered in his ear: "Fitch, when the surgery is done, could you call out my

name first?"

Her posture could be considered humble; her lowered eyelashes also made her seem somewhat

fragile.

Fitch immediately tightened his grip on her hand.

"Yeah."

Relieved, Zoey released his hand. "Go on in, then."

Fitch thought it over, then addressed the others of the Haskins. "I have no intention to divorce Zoey.

You can save your breath. From now on, she is my wife."

Mia's world spun. This shameless woman, Zoey, was pretending to be her brother's wife while he was

vulnerable? That was truly despicable!

"Brother! You've been deceived by this woman; she has no relation to you. She’s just a lowly harlot.

She has no right to be my sister-in-law!"

"Shut up!"

Fitch's expression turned very cold. Even with his memory lost, his presence was formidable.

Mia was afraid of him and quivered with fear.

Zoey quickly grasped his hand again, knowing Mia's words held truth; they were Fitch's own thoughts

before his memory lapse.

She felt insecure, not wishing to argue with anyone.

She was even prepared to forsake her dignity, wanting to kiss him on the cheek in front of everyone as

a gesture of claiming him.

This lifetime hadn't been full of good fortune for her; she was always abandoned, betrayed, but now

she hoped Fitch could be her sweet reprieve.

"Fitch, go have the surgery. I'll be waiting."

Fitch turned to Mia. "Apologize to her."

Apologize? Mia Haskins, to apologize to a woman of Zoey's stature?

Fury burned within Mia as she inhaled deeply. "Sorry, is that enough?"

Fitch's frown deepened. "What kind of apology is that?"

"Brother, let’s talk after the surgery, and you'll understand."

At that moment, Zoey tightened her hold on Fitch's hand.

"Go on. I'll be right outside for you."

Fitch nodded, not wanting to waste more time. As Fitch was given anesthesia and wheeled into the

operating room, Mia could no longer contain herself; she slapped Zoey across the face.

"How dare you? You think I don't know what you've been up to with my brother? You lured him into your

trap, didn't you? Let me tell you—I won't allow a wretch like you to be my sister-in-law. Let go of that

hope. Once my brother wakes up, he'll see how vile you are."

The other Haskins looked on, seeing Zoey as if she were an egregious sinner.

Zoey covered her slapped cheek without retaliating.

Alone against the many Haskins, she stood no chance.

And there was Duke, one of the people in the group who had previously harassed her. He was Fitch's

cousin, who had been jubilant during Fitch's supposed death.

Despite holding limited shares of the family business, he had been openly mocking Mia during that

period.novelbin

"Mia, you might want to think twice about hitting her. You should be careful, or your brother might come

to her defense when he wakes up. Tsk tsk, your slap might ruin her beautiful little face," he said with a

smirk, approaching Zoey.

"Zoey, right? Remember me? Last time we almost ..."

He trailed off, his gaze lingering on her suggestively.

Of course, Zoey remembered his face. Last time, this man had pinned her against a tree, and had she

not escaped, she feared what might have been...

Duke was a notorious playboy with no boundaries, always at odds with Fitch. Knowing of her

connection with Fitch, he would likely pursue her more aggressively in the future.
