Chapter 1263

His mind abruptly flashed back to the scenes of the two of them quietly working in this study. The only

sound in the room was the tapping of the keyboard.

In the middle of a meeting, he would often turn his head and see her, propped up by one hand, staring

quietly at the documents with a cool and obedient demeanor.

His heart felt as if it had just been singed, and his fist clenched tightly.

The events of this morning were absurd. Since waking up, he had spent the entire afternoon feigning

calm.

He had already been used as a stand-in, and didn't want to make a further fool of himself.

Now, in the quiet of the night, he felt a dull ache in his heart as he looked at everything before him.

He slowly settled into her chair and leaned on the desk.

Her chair was a bit smaller than his.

Despite her calm demeanor, she had a fondness for the cute things often loved by young girls, so the

cushion on her chair was pink.novelbin

She had picked out the design herself online. Worried that it would take too long to arrive, Ian had Jeff

buy one from the store. In less than an hour, it was in front of her.

She used it that night, praising the softness of the cushion and even asked if he wanted one.

He could never want such a pink thing.

Ian laid his head on the desk, his breathing became heavy, and after a short while, his shoulders began

to shake slightly.

Outside in the corridor, the servants were still busy throwing everything away.

Maja curled up on the couch by the window. The window was open.

To prevent her from escaping, Patric had the window barred with several steel rods.

She could feel the night wind but could only extend one hand out.

The wind blew on her cheeks, causing her forehead to bead with sweat.

Her throat hurt, a burning pain, as if something was searing inside.

She overheard Dylan and Patric's conversation. Dylan wanted to render her mute.

Since drinking that concoction, her throat had swollen to the point where she could no longer speak.

It hurt. She couldn't eat, only drink water.

Struggling, she rose and stretched her hand out the window, the coolness outside dispelling much of

her feverish heat.

But she was still in pain, shivering from the intensity.

Her earpiece crackled with intermittent voices.

"Patric is preparing your engagement. It's tentatively scheduled for next month. You won't have a

chance to refuse."

Maja pressed her forehead against the steel bars in front of her, hoping to clear her mind.

The voice in her earpiece continued.

"After you obediently get engaged to him, I'll take you to North America."

Only by getting engaged could her connection with Ian be completely severed.

Maja's eyes reddened, and she tried to voice her protest, but her throat couldn't form the words. All she

could do was beat her palm against the wall, again and again.

The person on the other end of the earpiece naturally heard the sound and knew her hand must be red.

She was hitting the wall as if she didn't care about her life.

"Do you want Patric to handcuff you? He's not like Eric. He embodies all the dark sides of men, and

he's more ruthless than anyone. He lost his CEO position because of you, and he's already furious. If

he hears you now, you may not even have the chance to enjoy the breeze by the window. Maja, why

can't you behave?"

Maja's nose stung, and tears began to roll down her cheeks.

Why did all this happen to her? Why couldn't they be together when they were in love?

"Maja, do you remember the jellyfish seal you got in Crystalbrook Valley? Lillian didn't have time to tell

you everything before she left, but you should have an intuition that this seal isn't ordinary. BK, as the

top-ranked organization and a hidden family, chose you. The previous saint, your adoptive mother, was

Lillian."

Maja's hands gripped the steel bars tightly, her body frozen as if she had been hit by a stunning spell.

The man's voice continued on the other side.

"That's a world you don't understand at all. So before you enter, you have to let go of all your desires,

anger, and ignorance. Lillian didn't die, she disappeared. But you were too young to touch those things

at that time. You were brought up by her as a successor, nurtured to be tough, and sometimes those

who have gone through suffering can be more ruthless than others."

Maja opened her mouth. There were so many questions she wanted to ask. But when Lillian was

mentioned, she suddenly closed her mouth.

She always said that Lillian was the best person in the world to her, and taught her a lot.

But Lillian had died and left a lonely grave.

Now this Mr. K was telling her that Lillian wasn't dead?
