Chapter 421

Maja was doing overtime at the office.

Just as she was about to knock off, in came Tom.

“Ms. Penny, here’s our resignation letter for you to review,” he said.

Maja raised an eyebrow, not expecting them to voluntarily quit.

A wave of relief washed over her.

“Don’t sweat it; you’ll get your severance pay,” she assured.

Tom was standing next to Maja, who was seated, scrutinizing the resignation letter.

But the more she read, the more she frowned–something was off with the document.

As she looked up to speak, a nauseating smell hit her and she felt dizzy.

Tom instructed the janitor to bring in a humongous trash bin, threatening, “Forget everything you saw,or you’re next!”

The janitor, the office’s lowest on the totem pole, was shaking like a leaf and nodding vigorously.

Only then did Tom give a satisfied nod and say, “Now wheel this bin to the underground garage;someone will be waiting. Stick with me.”

The janitor, pale as a ghost, hurriedly wheeled the bin with Maja inside towards the elevator.

Tom was on the phone next to her, negotiating something.

The janitor was on pins and needles. Overhearing Tom mention an abandoned factory in the outskirts, she quickly zipped her lips.

After hanging up, Tom looked over at the janitor.

This woman had been working in the office for two years, always diligent, and had stumbled upon hisaffairs multiple times yet kept his secrets. That’s why he was so audacious.

“Just keep quiet like before, and once this is over, expect a triple raise.”novelbin

The janitor bowed her head in agreement.

The bin was wheeled to the underground garage, where alblue van was waiting, its license plateintentionally obscured.

This was the Pennyfeather Group’s territory; surveillance had been shut down by Tom.

Two burly men got out of the van and hoisted the bin into the vehicle.

As the van doors closed, Tom didn’t join them, but he left, leaving the janitor alone.

She immediately whipped out her phone and dialed 911.

“Hello, I’ve witnessed a kidnapping; I need to report it. The victim is being transported to an abandonedfactory on the outskirts!”

After hanging up, still feeling uneasy, she rushed out to hail a cab and followed them.

Maja, jostled around in the van, and finally came to

But by then, the van had reached its destination. She was pulled out and could hear the kidnapperscalling lan..

“Mr. Raymond, Maja, and Carlene are in our hands. I know your guys are onto us, but we’re not afraidto die. We have no family, no one to worry about. So choose Carlene or Maja for the night.”

Barefoot people were not afraid of those with shoes. A bunch of desperate people with nothing to losecan indeed be a headache.

They were unfazed by threats of power. They were all orphans with nothing to lose.

They divided into two groups: two to kidnap Carlene, and another two for Maja.

To lan, only five minutes had passed since he received Carlene’s call for help.

Even if his people had located the kidnappers, it would take at least ten minutes to get there byhelicopter and snipe down the kidnappers.

“Mr. Raymond, don’t blame us for being ruthless. We have our principles. You choose one; we won’ttouch the other.”

In her daze, Maja heard lan say, “Don’t touch Carlene.”

His voice was cold, as if it could leak out from the screen.

Maja now understood. These people were so desperate that they dared to threaten lan. They musthave prepared for the worst.

She had no idea who hired them.”

Maja lowered her eyes.

She didn’t want to admit that her heart ached when lan said those words.

So in his eyes, Maja was just a name, not worth a dime.
