Romeo and Harlow were both taken aback when they heard the man say that the Britt family wasfinished.

"Finished? What... what does that mean?" Harlow asked.

"It means just what it sounds like, doesn't it? The Britt family is done for!" The man sneered beforeadding in a hushed tone, "I heard they've been completely wiped out. Who knows how many peoplehave died? Even the head of the Britt family is gone, and many other members are being hunteddown. Now there are only three major families left in Capital."

Upon hearing this news, Romeo and Harlow exchanged a shocked look.

"Why are they finished? Who did this?" Romeo asked while taking a deep breath.

At this moment, both Romeo and Harlow wore expressions of disbelief as they stared at each otherwith wide eyes.

"Dad... if the Britt family is finished and yet everyone from the Austin family treats Lachlan sokindly... could it be that Lachlan had something to do with it?" Harlow's face twitched as she spokewhile looking at Lachlan who had just entered into the conference hall accompanied by Laurenceand Zach.

Her expression was one of utter disbelief.

Romeo took another deep breath before replying gravely, "It's possible! Either way, let's stay awayfrom him today. And Harlow…don't go around provoking that guy anymore! Let's go inside now; ourmission today is to network, nothing else."

Harlow nodded her head in agreement saying "I understand". She then spun around once beforeasking her father, "Dad…do you think I'm pretty?"

"Of course you're pretty! You're my daughter after all," replied Romeo with a smile on his face. Headded confidently, "You'll definitely be able to charm all those young talents today!"

Both father and daughter carried an unspoken question within them: did Lachlan really have suchgreat abilities? Did he really cause destruction upon the entire Britt family?

Once inside of conference hall area, Lachlan found himself a spot where he could eat some freebuffet food while waiting for things to get started officially.

Lachlan couldn't help but feel excited about it all!

Penelope replied coldly while shaking her head. She stared at where Lachlan was sitting withresentment in her eyes.

"Penelope! Your grandfather asked you to go pick him up; he must want you two to get together!Look at how many other girls are trying to get close to him too. You're much prettier than those girls;your chances are definitely better."

Another rich girl suggested enthusiastically.

Hearing this suggestion made Penelope glare coldly at her companion while gritting her teeth,"What do you mean? Are you calling me a loose woman?"

"No no no! That's not what I meant. Penelope... you misunderstood me! I'm just saying that sinceLachlan is so powerful, if you could develop something with him, it would be good for you..."

The other girl kept waving her hands apologetically while explaining herself awkwardly.

"Screw off! Who cares about that guy? What makes him so great anyway? He's just an uncivilizedscumbag!" Penelope retorted harshly with a cold face.

"Oh well then don't go if you don't want to... why do we have to argue?" The rich girl who had beeninsulted by Penelope looked aggrieved as she pouted and spoke back.

At this moment Penelope touched half of her face which still hurt after being slapped earlier today.She felt more resentful towards Lachlan as she sat there thinking about it more deeply.

In fact, she felt like she couldn't take anymore humiliation today. She, Penelope, had never beentreated like this before!

Even if she could say something back against Lachlan, it would make things better for herself.

Thinking like this, she glared fiercely in his direction before snorting contemptuously.

The next moment, she stood up and gritted her teeth, saying, "Fine! I'll go! But I'm not going to showany favor to him like before. I want him to know that I still look down on him!"

With that, she walked over towards Lachlan with a cold expression on her face.

Lachlan was currently enjoying some free food and drinks when he saw the woman approaching.This made Penelope feel even more disdainful towards this man.

When he saw the woman coming over, Lachlan couldn't help but pause for a moment with a hint ofconfusion in his eyes.

"What's up?" He glanced at her sideways and asked expressionlessly.

Penelope sneered and said mockingly, "Do you think you're really something? In my opinion, you'rejust a small person with some kind of twisted taste! Don't think that just because the the Chambersfamily and the Austin family are polite to you means everyone will look up to you! I can tell you rightnow that I still look down on you!"

Upon hearing this statement from Penelope, Lachlan simply smiled faintly and said indifferently,"You came all this way just to say these things? Does it have anything to do with me whether or notyou look down on me?"

Penelope's tone suddenly faltered upon hearing his response. Seeing how indifferent he was actingonly served as fuel for her anger.

The next second, she gritted her teeth again saying, "You're nothing but an insidious little man whoseeks attention from others!"

"I seek attention from others? An insidious little man?"

Lachlan couldn't help but furrow his brows slightly as he questioned back. He had no intention ofdealing with this woman in the first place but why did she insist on continuing their conversation?

Penelope sneered once more showing an extremely contemptuous gaze, "Isn't it true though?Pretending to be weak is so interesting? Isn't that seeking attention from others? You think it's coolacting like this, don't ya? Having money or power can allow one's modesty shine throughappropriately. However, someone who purposely acts pretentious like yourself is shallowlylaughable in my opinion."

"Heh..." Lachlan laughed silently without words.

"What are you laughing at?! Am I wrong about what I said?! If it wasn't intentional, then why wearsuch plain military clothing or take public transportation instead of driving your own car? Why would

someone stoop so low as picking up one hundred dollars off the ground, let alone actually taking ataxi here?"

Upon seeing Lachlan mocking smile once more while looking at herself made Penelope's face turnred out of anger.

She continued questioning non-stop, making sure every word hit its mark.

Looking at this woman before him only made Lachlan's disgust grow stronger.

He felt nothing but complete disdain towards women like these.

The next second, he had no expression on his face and said calmly, "Do I need to explain how I dothings to you?"
