Chapter 587

“The big four families?” Caroline pondered out loud.

“I don’t know anyone who had been adopted into those families.”

Strangely, though, a child would appear out of the blue in some of the families.

Then, the families would claim that the child’s parents were their relatives‘ or even say that one

of the women in their families had given birth to the child out of town.

To put it simply, they wanted to spare themselves the embarrassment of admitting that the child

was illegitimate.

These children certainly weren’t adopted. After all, the families took bloodlines very seriously.

They would never allow an outsider’s blood to taint their bloodlines.

“Please help me take note of this then,” said Marietta as she glanced at Caroline.

“I’ve only just gotten some news about my daughter.”

“Don’t worry,” Caroline told her.

“I’ll help you ask around.”

“Thank you so much, Carrie.”

“No worries. It’s the least I can do.”

They chatted some more and soon arrived at the restaurant. novelbin

It had been a long time since Marietta had been back in Easton. Although she hadn’t eaten any

spicy food when she had been abroad, she still managed to handle spicy food pretty well.

Caroline and Cheryl found the food so spicy that they downed glass after glass of cold water. On

the other hand, Marietta seemed to be enjoying the food as if the spiciness was no big deal.

She couldn’t hold back her laughter when she saw Caroline and Cheryl in such a state. “So you

two can’t take anything spicy at all.”

She chuckled and added, “You don’t have to pick the dishes according to my taste next time.”

“We’re fine,” said Caroline, fanning herself.

“Everything’s fine as long as you’re happy.”

Marietta smiled at her words. She found that she liked Caroline even more the longer she looked

at her.

Sometimes, she wished that Caroline was her daughter. She would get this sense of familiarity

whenever she saw Caroline. It was as if they had known each other for years.

“Oh right!” said Marietta.

“Carrie, what do your parents do for a living? You don’t mention them often.”

This time, Marietta had returned to find her daughter. She had found out that Caroline was the

Evans‘ daughter only after discovering that her daughter might have been adopted by someone

from the big four families.

Caroline lowered her eyes and said coolly, “I’ve cut ties with them.”

“How come?” Marietta asked, her heart breaking a little.

Cheryl, whose lips were still burning from the spicy food, started ranting.

“It’s simply too horrible, Ms. Weiss. Caroline’s parents are super awful!” The spiciness of the food

fueled her anger.

Marietta’s heart hurt for Caroline. She glanced at Cheryl, eager to know more about Caroline.”

What happened? Can you tell me about it?”

Cheryl didn’t dare to disclose anything. She merely glanced at Caroline. Seeing Caroline nod, she

told Marietta about what Sarah and Dan had done.

In truth, Cheryl was only aware of the incidents that were already known to the public. However,

she still seethed with rage at Sarah and Dan for slandering Caroline with all those lies.

“How do parents like these even exist?” Marietta exclaimed.

“How could they do something like that just to marry their daughter off to someone she doesn’t

like? It’s just cruel!”

Caroline stared at Marietta, who was in such a rage that others could mistakenly take her for the

victim.

“Calm down. It’s in the past now.” Caroline tried to comfort her.

“Look at me now. Aren’t I doing just fine?”

“That isn’t a valid reason for parents to hurt their children.” Marietta felt as though a blade had

just sliced through her heart.

“You’re their flesh and blood, yet they treat you in such a manner.

“My daughter was adopted … I wonder what she’s been through. I really hope that I can find her

right away so that she doesn’t have to suffer anymore.”

Although Marietta was just a scriptwriter and couldn’t compare to the filthy rich, she had

managed to secure quite a few assets.

She would have been among the top 20 richest people in the world if she hadn’t spent her money

on all means possible to find her long–lost daughter.

Nevertheless, she had made up her mind that she would hand over all her assets to her daughter

once she found her.

She wanted to give her daughter the best of everything in this world to make up for what they had

lost over the past 20 years.
