Chapter 586

“I know. I would wait for you,” said Caroline. novelbin

“I would wait for you until you appear.”

“What if I don’t?” asked Kirk.

“Then, I’ll continue waiting for you until you do.”

Kirk fell silent. After some time, he ruffled her hair and said softly, “Time to sleep.”

Taking his hands in hers, she stared right into his eyes. “It seems to me that you’re not satisfied

with my answer.”

Her gaze made him burn inside, and he said, “If you don’t sleep now, I’ll-”

“I was wrong!” Caroline yelped and ducked under the blankets.

Kirk chuckled as he watched her wriggle like a caterpillar in a cocoon.

Despite the smile that hung on his lips, his eyes had a hint of sorrow in them.

As long as the problem of his identity existed, blissful days like this would feel as surreal as a

dream.

Three days later, Caroline received a call from Marietta, who invited her out for a meal. Naturally,

she didn’t hesitate to accept the invitation.

Nevertheless, Marietta wasn’t familiar with things in Osbury, so Caroline volunteered to find a

restaurant and make a reservation for them.

Cheryl couldn’t hide the excitement in her voice when she found out that Caroline was going to

see Marietta again.

“Caroline, can you get Marietta’s autograph for me?”

“Are you her fan?”

“Not really. It’s just that she’s the most famous scriptwriter right now,” answered Cheryl.

“So I can make others jealous if I can get her autograph.”

Caroline nodded. “Have you made up your mind about what you’re going to wear for your date with

A blush crept across Cheryl’s cheeks at the question. “Caroline!” She squealed.

“Look at you. You’re blushing already,” Caroline teased.

You should learn a thing or two from Gwen. That way, you won’t get embarrassed so easily.”

That made Cheryl laugh. “Yeah, yeah. Oh right! How are Gwen and Dr. Yates now? I saw them a

couple of days ago. I think it was the day after we had a meal together.”

Caroline fell silent for a moment before deciding to steer the topic away from Gwen and Sean. You

haven’t told me what you’re going to wear on your date with Jack.”

“To be honest, I haven’t decided on it yet.” Cheryl stared at her toes.

“Ever since I started working, I’ve always worn a blouse and pants. Even when I had been at school, I

had simply worn a T–shirt and jeans.”

“How about you come with me when I meet up with Marietta later?” Caroline suggested.

“We can relax and take her shopping. At the same time, we can get you some clothes so that you’ll

look all pretty for your date.”

“That’s not necessary. It’s only a meal. Won’t it seem like I’m doing too much?”

“Of course not. It’s your first date,” Caroline reassured her.

“It’s settled then.”

“Okay. Thanks, Caroline.”

“Go on then.”

Caroline smiled and reminded her, “Don’t forget that it’s a reservation for three.”

Cheryl nodded and left to do what she was asked.

When it was lunchtime, the two of them headed to pick up Marietta from the hotel where she was

staying.

When all of them were in the car, Caroline purposely introduced Cheryl to Marietta.

“Meet Cheryl, my assistant. She knew that your parents liked spicy food since they’re from Ciante, so

she purposely booked us a restaurant that specializes in Ciantean cuisine. What do you think?”

Marietta pulled Cheryl into her arms and said, “Thank you, dear. That was so thoughtful of you.”

It made Cheryl blush. Noticing this, Marietta teased her for it for a moment before turning to

Caroline.

Carrie, I’ve heard that the Evans were one of the big four families in the past. Do you know anyone in

the other three families who had been adopted?”

Caroline gave it some thought before answering, “Um… I have no clue about this. Why are youasking?”

Sighing, Marietta looked rather down. “The human traffickers who had taken my daughter away from

me back then had sold her off to a couple from Yudonia.

“Later on, the couple had had their own children, and they had sent her to an orphanage.

“The private detective I hired discovered that a couple from Osbury had adopted my daughter.”

Marietta continued, “The director of the orphanage said that the couple had been well dressed and

seemed to come from a well–off background.”

“Apparently, they accidentally revealed that they were from one of the big four families here in Osbury,”

said Marietta.

“So it’s highly likely that they were from the big four families in the past.”
