Chapter 543 Give Up On Everything

Chapter 543 Give Up On Everything

Cedrick did not respond for a while. It took him some time before he could register what Gwendolyn

had said.

In a flash, his eyelashes quivered uncontrollably, and his eyes reddened. “Do you have any idea what

you're saying?”

Gwendolyn nodded her head firmly. “I'm perfectly sober. I know what I'm saying. Divorce is good for us

both. You'll no longer get hurt, and I won't have to live in guilt anymore.”

Tears welled up in Cedrick's eyes as he plunged into extreme despair. “I tried all means to hide your

condition from you because I'm worried you'll make such a decision. I didn't expect that you'll really do

this after finding out about it...”

His scarred back was trembling, and his gaze was laced with agony.

“Gwenny, this is the second time you suggested a divorce. I almost gave up my life in exchange for

your change of mind the other time. How many lives do you want me to give up this time?”

Gwendolyn's breath hitched. Following a deep sigh, she reached her hand out to his back, ready to

continue applying the medicine for him.

Cedrick gloomily shifted away to avoid her touch.

At the sight of how heartbroken the man was, Gwendolyn softly explained, “Ceddy, that's not what I

meant. I don't even know who I am when my illness acts up. I might even harm you.”

She took a deep breath and tried to rephrase herself. “With a divorce, we'll leave the kids in your

custody. I'll give up on everything and lock myself up to focus on treatment. If my condition deteriorates,

you'll help the kids find another kind and gentle mother to care for them. Don't be bothered about me.

But if I can fully recover from the illness, we'll get back together. Do you think this works?”

“No.”

Cedrick rejected the idea decisively. “I won't agree to a divorce. Who knows if you'll fall in love with

another man when you're single again? I'm five years older than you. If you decide not to like me when

I turn old and ugly, wouldn't I have no more hopes of remarrying?”

Gwendolyn was rendered speechless.

There was resolution in the man's dark orbs as he added, “From now on, there is no possibility of

divorce.”

Gwendolyn heaved another sigh. “Ceddy...”

“Call me 'Hubby'.” Cedrick looked away, seething inwardly.

Gwendolyn was exasperated. “I really don't want to hurt you. Like how you chose to forsake me and

break your engagement with me so that I won't be wallowing in sorrow back then when your life was in

danger after getting infected with the S404 RNA virus, I'm feeling the exact same way right now. Can

you understand?”

Cedrick propped himself up and sat before her. “But didn't you refuse to let go of me too? I feel the

same way as you did back then. Don't you understand?” he solemnly asked in return.

Gwendolyn was at a loss for words.

Cedrick grasped her hand tightly. “It's only right for husband and wife to share life's sorrows. Besides,

you aren't severely ill. As Joshua said, your treatment is progressing pretty well. It'll only take at most

half a year to recover. The kids and I will always be here for you.”

The two looked at each other with reddened eyes.

After pondering for a while, Gwendolyn said, “When my sickness acts up the next time, lock me up and

let me stay alone. That way, I won't hurt anyone. It's probably the best solution.”

Cedrick consoled, “The next time your sickness acts up, I'll give you a sedative shot before bringing

you to Joshua's place for an IV drip. Will that work?”

Gwendolyn gave it some thought and added, “You must promise not to get hurt again. Even if I try to hit

you, you have to fight back. If I find new bruises when I check your body the next time I regain

consciousness, I won't let you off.”

Suddenly, Cedrick inched closer to her face and leaned his nose against hers. “Gwenny, what are you

going to do to me? I'm already injured. Don't tell me you bear to hit me again,” he asked, unfazed.

Gwendolyn felt a lump in her throat.

Of course not. How will I bear to hit him?

Indeed. If possible, she probably would not mind letting Cedrick get intimate with her for three

consecutive days, not even if she might pass out from it. As long as she could make up for the torment

she put him through the past few days, she would not mind landing herself in the intensive unit due to

excessive vigorous actions on the bed.

Realizing the man probably saw through her mind, she forced a strong presence and uttered, “Anyway,

I don't want to see any more injuries on your body. I won't let you off if you refuse to listen to me.”

“All right. I'll listen to you, Darling,” the man casually answered. Anything is good as long as it's not

divorce.

“Lie back down. I'll apply medicine for you.”

Cedrick lay down obediently. Gwendolyn dipped her finger into the medicine and gently rubbed it on the

wounds on the man's back and thighs.

Her fingers ran around his red and swollen skin.

While applying medicine to the wounds, she tried hard to think of a solution.

I can't control when I'll act up. Then again, I'm very clear about Cedrick's character. I'm sure he'll

become a human punching bag again when I act up the next time. But that can't happen again. I can't

allow myself to hurt him like this ever again.

Numerous thoughts flooded her mind, but she kept a straight face as she applied the medicine to

Cedrick's wounds.

Gwendolyn was undoubtedly in low spirits as she ultimately did not manage to keep the matter under

wraps. Somehow, it felt like something was coming between them, and they were no longer as

comfortable as before.

Just as Gwendolyn absent-mindedly changed into her work outfit, Cedrick approached her and

grabbed her hand, ready to send her to work like he always did.

“There's no need.” Gwendolyn retracted her hand. “I'm in a good condition right now. I'll get off work

thirty minutes earlier, so don't worry.”

A sorrowful look washed over Cedrick's face as he pursed his lips and remained quiet. It was clear that

he was upset about being rejected.

Sensing it, Gwendolyn caressed the man's exquisite face and stood on tiptoes to kiss the man.

“Hubby, don't overthink it. I merely feel bad for you. You still have wounds on your bottom; I'm sure it'll

hurt if you sit in the car. Stay home and get some rest today. All right?”

Cedrick agreed to it.

Indeed, he needed more sleep to re-energize himself as he had not had adequate rest for the past few

days.

He walked Gwendolyn to the Jenson residence's garage and watched her leave in the car before he

slowly made his way back to Harrick Villa.

However, Gwendolyn did not actually go too far.

She parked the car at the corner of the road about five hundred meters away, opened her phone's

address book, and dialed Nico's number.

After a few rings, the call got through.

Nico sounded both shocked and delighted.

“Gwendolyn, why did you suddenly call me? This makes me so touched.”

Gwendolyn was in a sullen mood and had no intention of entertaining him. “Don't let Cedrick know that

I called you today.”

“Huh?”

Nico was stumped. “You want to hide it from Cedrick? Why?”

“There's no need for you to find out. If you divulge it to Cedrick before I settle the matter, don't blame

me for making you get into his bad books and deduct your salary and bonus.”

“Please don't, Gwendolyn. Very well. Since Cedrick listens to you, I'll obey your instructions too. Feel

free to tell me anything.”

Gwendolyn calmly said, “Can you secretly get me a set of heavy cuffs the Federal Bureau of

Investigation uses?”

On the other end of the line, Nico froze briefly. “They're usually for suspects who committed grave

crimes. What do you need it for, Gwendolyn?”

Gwendolyn avoided that question and countered, “I just want to know if you can get it for me?”novelbin

“Of course. That's not difficult at all. When do you need it?”

“Before I get off work today.”

The night was cold that evening.

A gush of icy breeze brushed against Gwendolyn's face, chilling her to the bones. That was exactly

how she was feeling at that moment.

Nighttime used to be a pleasant time for Cedrick and her.

But now, she loathed dark nights to the core. She feared that her illness would act up in the next

moment.

About thirty minutes before work ended, she drove back to Harrick Villa.

Silence filled the entire villa. She discreetly headed upstairs and pushed open the bedroom door, only

to find Cedrick still asleep.

Tiptoeing her way over, Gwendolyn sat by the bedside and gazed at the man's dashing sleeping face.

Cedrick has been having a hard time recently. It's so rare that he can sleep through the whole

afternoon. Well, it's perfect that he hasn't woken up. I should start preparing for tonight.
