Chapter 471

Chapter 471 She Is Mentally Unwell

After making up her mind, Gwendolyn, with her fists clenched, turned and ran toward the tightly shut

door on the right while Craig blanked out briefly.

Even Nico was taken aback and could not register what was happening.

“Gwendolyn!”

Craig was the first to react. He immediately raised his gun again and cocked it.

He was so anxious his eyes turned bloodshot as he threatened to pull the trigger at Gwendolyn.

At that critical juncture, a hand grabbed his wrist with so much strength that his aim went astray.

He whipped his head around, only to find that it was Cedrick. The latter was glaring at him with a grim-

looking face.

“Mr. Jenson…”

“How dare you aimed the gun at my wife! Are you sick of being the deputy director?”“

As those words fell, the tremendously intimidating Cedrick snatched the gun from Craig’s grip andnovelbin

threw it on the ground.

The overbearing air Craig was exuding earlier faded with Cedrick’s presence.

Seeing Cedrick’s timely appearance, Gwendolyn swiftly turned the door handle, pushed open the door,

and dashed into the pitch-black room.

She stumbled her way to turn on the lights amidst the darkness. Astonishment overwhelmed her as

soon as she saw the situation inside the room.

Following behind, Nico was also stunned by the sight inside while he stood by the door.

There was no furniture in the room, not even a bed.

A woman with messy black hair lay on her side against the wall.

A weighty iron collar hung around her neck, and metal chains secured around her wrists and ankles

stretched all the way to the wall.

Multiple streaks of blood formed all over the parts of the skin where she was bound. It was apparent

she had put up a violent struggle before.

Having been exposed to the rays of light so suddenly, she could not help but begin shivering all over

and even cowered to a corner of the wall in fear. It was a pathetic sight to behold.

Gwendolyn gasped in shock. An ache spread through her whole body, and she dared not approach the

woman to verify her identity.

She was afraid she might lose control and kill Craig if that woman turned out to be Jennifer.

At the same time, she was relieved that Treyton did not follow them over. She reckoned he would lose

his sanity if he saw that sight in the room.

While Gwendolyn was still in a daze, Nico walked over and squatted beside the woman.

Sensing someone near her, the woman shuddered violently, almost as if she saw a beast.

Nico comforted in a low voice. “Don’t worry. I won’t hurt you. Mr. Jenson will seek justice for you!”

As he spoke, he carefully brushed her stray strands of hair aside.

The woman’s face was as white as a sheet of paper. The once clear and beautiful eyes became empty

and

bleak.

Despite seeing that it was Nico, Jennifer remained expressionless.

It seems like she’s mentally unwell?

When Gwendolyn noticed that the woman turned out to be Jennifer, she felt her heart sting so badly

her eyes turned red. She clenched her fists, and her body trembled uncontrollably.

Craig and Cedrick had been watching by the door.

Faced with the situation in the room, Craig parted his lips and prepared to explain with a straight face.

“Jennifer is ”

Smack!

A hard slap landed on Craig’s face before he could say anything.

“Craig, you aren’t human! How can you lock your sister up? You’re worse than an animal!”

Rage filled Gwendolyn. Seeing that Craig was in a trance and did not dodge her, she gave him another

slap on the same spot.

The fury within her and her capability in martial arts resulted in two forceful slaps toward Craig’s cheek.

leaving the latter with blood oozing out on the corner of his lips and a slightly swollen face.

Because Cedrick was present, Craig clenched his fists tight and put up with Gwendolyn without uttering

a

word.

Right then, Gwendolyn lifted her hand again. The urge to kill Craig to help revenge Jennifer was

overflowing in her.

However, Cedrick stopped her before she took action. “That’s enough, Gwenny. Let’s hear him out

first.”

Cedrick pulled Gwendolyn into his embrace to calm her down with tender adoration.

He also affectionately blew on her slightly burning red palm and used his fingers to gently rubbed it to

alleviate the pain left behind after slapping Craig

Pursing his lips, Craig wiped the blood off the corner of his lip and explained, “I called a doctor over to

check on her previously. He said Jennifer’s severe cold and fever affected her brain, thus resulting in

her

becoming mentally unsound and having a tendency to self-mutilate. I was worried she would hurt

herself again, so I locked her up on the rooftop and hired doctors to take care of her.”

Gwendolyn thought his explanation was full of lies and could not bring herself to believe him.

“How long only has it been since Jennifer’s return? My brother took her to the hospital for a body

check. before she came back. She was in good health. Besides, because she’s from the orphanage,

she’s better at enduring hardships than others and has a stronger physique than other girls. She has

only returned for less than a week, and yet she’s been driven to a mental breakdown and is even

abusing herself? Craig, do you think I’ll believe that you did nothing?”

Craig was left stumped by the barrage of questions she threw at him.

Just as he wanted to speak. Gwendolyn, unwilling to give him a chance to explain, turned to Cedrick

and said, “Hubby, as the deputy director of the Federal Bureau of Investigation, Craig imprisoned his

biological sister despite knowing that it’s wrong to do so. Aren’t you supposed to detain him for

questioning and give him a severe punishment if he’s indeed guilty?”

Cedrick nodded in response. “Theoretically speaking, there’s just no reason to lock one up with metal

chains and restrict one’s freedom, not even blood relatives.”

At this point, Craig interjected. “Mrs. Jenson. I can’t afford to bear the crime of illegal imprisonment. If

you don’t believe me, you can always summon a doctor to give Jennifer a test. I locked her up out of

love for her and an intention to help her get well. What wrong did I do?”

Gwendolyn coldly cast him a stern glare.

No. I can’t rebuke him.

She forced herself to regain her composure to ponder over the situation.

Right now, what’s most important is Jennifer’s psychiatric assessment. Everyone in the Newton family

is on Craig’s side. No one will speak up for Jennifer, Only after she’s mentally stable can we know what

she went through and what Craig has done to her.

With logical thinking, she decisively said, “All right, then. I want the Federal Bureau of Investigation to

take Jennifer away and do a psychiatric assessment to ensure fairness and impartiality. Is that fine with

you?”

Craig’s face fell. “Mrs. Jenson, Jennifer can’t leave the Newton residence. Under the doctor’s

treatment, her condition has gotten a lot better. If she leaves this room, she’ll go crazy and abuse

herself.”

Gwendolyn was resolute. “I won’t believe a single word you say. I’ll only believe in the results done by

an impartial doctor. We’ll take Jennifer with us. Only after the psychiatric assessment results are out

will you be able to prove your innocence. Understand?”

“Mr. Jenson”

Craig wanted to dissuade her, but Gwendolyn was enough of his nonsense. She turned to Nico and

immediately ordered, “Remove the metal chains and take Jenniter away.”

“Understood”

Nico had brought along a set of small tools in his military uniform. Without much effort, he pried open

all

A few of his soldier colleagues immediately went up to help him support Jennifer and headed

downstairs.

Gwendolyn turned around and trailed behind them worriedly.

Remaining planted on the ground. Cedrick uttered with a deep voice, “Before we find out what exactly

happened, you locking Jennifer up is the truth. Stop whatever tasks you have on hand, and you’re not

allowed to go anywhere. Stay at home to wait for orders. Do you have a problem with that?”

Craig tensed his jaw in distaste and resignedly responded, “No. I’ll abide by your instructions, Mr.

Jenson.”

Upon getting an answer from Craig, Cedrick turned and left without staying any further. With that, the

group swiftly left the Newton residence.

Following the piercing sounds of car engines tearing through the air of the quiet night, Charles,

standing on the balcony, furiously smashed the vase beside him.
