Chapter 414

Meanwhile, in the countryside, Evelyn had just woken up from a splitting headache.

She had a really long dream while she was unconscious. In that dream, Marcus was young and not

bound to his wheelchair.

He carried Evelyn on his shoulders and brought her to the amusement park where he proudly told

everyone that she was his beloved daughter.

They were having a great time in the dream, but then her vision slowly faded away as she woke up,

and she was back at the old house again.

The dim ceiling light hanging above her head was all that filled her eyes, and an endless torment was

all that awaited her.

That beautiful dream came to an end as she fully came to her senses.

Marcus would never come back to life, and it was she who ordered Lorelai to push him down the stairs.

Even if he was still alive, he would never announce her identity as his daughter.

In the end, it’s all just a beautiful dream…

Evelyn’s lips curled into a wry smile as she laughed at her own fate.

Margaret was casually munching on some snacks while sitting next to her.

She let out a sigh and said with a frown, “You’re finally awake, huh? I guess having a doctor treat you

really does work wonders. Still, your body is ridiculously weak! You didn’t even last a day! You have a

whole year ahead of you, so I hope you’ll at least try to enjoy your time here!”

Evelyn tried to say something in response, only to realize she had lost her voice. Her throat was so

badly injured that even swallowing hurt a lot. She was hooked up to an IV drip and had bandages all

over her wounds.

Oh? What’s this? Did Gwendolyn have a doctor treat me because she feels bad for me? Is she going to

spare me or something?

What Margaret said next, however, shattered whatever hope she had built up.

“Now that you’re awake, hurry up and get out of bed! You’ve been sleeping all day! It’s night time now,

so get to the courtyard and recite the Heagurn Sutra on your knees!”

What? I can’t even speak, and she wants me to recite the Heagurn Sutra?

Margaret was about to step outside when Evelyn grabbed her by the arm and pointed at her throat.

Realizing what Evelyn was trying to say, Margaret shot her a disdainful look and added, “Ms. Harris

said your hands still work even if you have lost your voice, so you can continue by writing the Heagurn

Sutra down. The rules remain unchanged!”

Evelyn felt speechless when she heard that.

What? Write it down? The Heagurn Sutra has over five million words! I would never be able to finish

writing it down in one night!

Margaret felt a little annoyed when she saw the look of shock and anger in Evelyn’s eyes. “Quit wasting

time! Hurry up and get a move on!”

Evelyn refused to budge. She was feeling extremely dizzy after waking up from unconsciousness, and

her fever had yet to subside. On top of that, her left hand was still hooked up to an IV drip. She knew

that she would surely faint if she were to kneel all night.

At this rate, she would probably die before she could complete her punishment.

Evelyn closed her eyes and thought about what she should do next.

Margaret got irritated when she turned around at the door and saw that Evelyn was still lying in bed.

She ran forward and grabbed Evelyn by the wrist, yanked the IV drip out of her hand, and dragged her

off the bed.

Evelyn fell to the floor and landed on her knees. An intense pain shot through her body, but she

couldn’t even make a sound.

Margaret maintained an icy-cold look on her face when she saw Evelyn’s pained expression.

“What’s the matter, Evelyn? Can’t take even a little pain? Did you think this would happen to you when

you tried to kill Ms. Harris before? This pain is retribution for all the evil deeds you’ve done, so you

have no right to resist!”

Evelyn stopped struggling after hearing that and let Margaret drag her to the courtyard.

With Ezra watching over her, she knelt on the ground and began writing the Heagurn Sutra down,

starting from the very first line.

Her lips were pale, and she looked incredibly frail.

The sound of a rooster crowing could be heard as dawn approached, but Evelyn hadn’t even finished

writing a tenth of the Heagurn Sutra.novelbin

Margaret’s son, Norman Nixon, had just returned at the time.

He was a young man with dark skin, a muscular body, and an honest personality.

Norman froze in shock when he saw Evelyn kneeling in the courtyard.

Evelyn’s exquisite facial features looked incredibly charming without makeup on, and her frail state

easily triggered the desire in men to protect her.

Realizing that someone was looking at her, Evelyn stopped writing and glanced in Norman’s direction.

Her teary eyes helped make her look all the more pitiful.

All it took was a brief exchange of glances for Norman to develop a crush on her.

“Ahem! Keep writing until it’s lunchtime!”

It wasn’t until William interrupted them that they finally broke eye contact.

Norman didn’t dare say a word and quickly made his way past William before entering the house.

Margaret had just gotten out of bed when Norman walked up to her and asked, “Mother, who is that girl

in the courtyard? She looks really young and pretty! What did she do to be punished like this?”

“Have you taken a liking to her?” Margaret knew her son all too well.

Norman scratched his head awkwardly and replied with an honest smile, “I would love to marry a

woman as pretty as she is!”

Angered by what he said, Margaret smacked him on his head and shouted furiously, “Do you even

listen to yourself? That woman is an evil seductress! On top of that, she’s Old Mr. Harris’ daughter, so

don’t even think about dating her!”

“O-Of course, Mother! I wouldn’t dare!” Norman replied like the obedient son that he was.

Even so, he still couldn’t help but steal a few glances at Evelyn when he left the room.

I don’t know why Mother would say such horrible things about her, but there’s nothing with looking at

her pretty face, is there?

Realizing that he was staring at her again, Evelyn deliberately flashed him a sweet smile in response.

She looked as innocent as a poor little bunny that was being abused.

Norman’s face turned red instantly, and he quickly ran into the kitchen without looking at her.

William, who had seen their little interaction, warned her sternly, “Ezra and I are going to keep a very

close eye on you, so you had better not get any funny ideas now!”

Evelyn quickly retracted her gaze and shook her head profusely like a terrified animal.

Not wanting to watch her put up an act, William took the scripture from her and let her go for lunch.

At about nine in the morning, Cedrick’s driver drove him and Gwendolyn to Grand Valley Hospital .

As Gwendolyn was nine weeks into her pregnancy, the changes in her body were becoming

increasingly obvious.

Cedrick was incredibly anxious as he sat there and waited for the results of Gwendolyn’s examination.

He would never be able to forgive himself if anything were to happen to Gwendolyn and her babies as

a result of the virus he had.

Cedrick could barely sit still as he swallowed anxiously.

About ten minutes later, the nurses opened the door and called out to him, “Mr. Jenson? Ms. Harris’

examination results are out. Please come take a look!”

Cedrick ran into the room the moment he heard that. Gwendolyn could be seen sitting in front of the

gynecologist’s desk with a solemn expression.

The gynecologist, too, had a similar look on her face.

Cedrick then sat down next to Gwendolyn and held her hand while waiting for the doctor to announce

the results.
