Chapter 383

Unable to withstand the force, Caesar stumbled backward. The corner of his lips was badly swollen,

and blood was oozing out of it.

Gwendolyn was given a fright by the sudden turn of events. When her gaze fell upon the raging eyes of

the perpetrator, an inexplicable sense of guilt crept into her.

“Ceddy, why are you here?”

The seething Cedrick locked gazes with her. “Were you planning to hide this from me if I hadn’t come?”

“Um… You’ve got the wrong idea. We were just having a meal.”novelbin

Just as she explained, Gwendolyn hurried over to examine Caesar. “Are you all right?”

Wiping the blood from his mouth, Caesar replied, “It hurts a little, but I’m fine.”

He had grown up pampered at home and had never been struck before. Little did he expect to end up

being punched by Cedrick.

“I’m sorry. I’ll get Joanne to send you to the hospital for a check-up. I’ll take care of all your medical

expenses and any losses you have suffered.”

Caesar rejected the offer. “Don’t worry about it. It’s no big deal.”

“I insist. As you’re a representative of Erihal, it’s necessary for me to apologize for what happened. This

is a misunderstanding on Cedrick’s part. I’m sorry… Hey, what are you doing?”

Before she could finish, she felt her body suspended in mid-air. Cedrick had swept her off her feet and

was carrying her to the Shelby Supercar parked by the side.

“Ceddy…”

With her hands wrapped around his neck, Gwendolyn saw his seething expression just as she wanted

to tell him to put her down.

The rage within him was evident to her. She knew that he would throw a tantrum back at home if she

didn’t assuage his anger by then.

With that thought in mind, Gwendolyn turned around to look at the stunned Caesar. “I’m sorry that we

can’t have dinner tonight. I’ll have Joanne entertain you and give you another treat a few days later!”

The mere suggestion of another dinner appointment infuriated Cedrick further.

He turned around with a scowl on his face and warned through his gritted teeth, “This is Chanaea. The

customs of Erihal do not apply here. It’s not going to be easy for you to take advantage of my wife!”

The moment he finished, his narrowed eyes formed a threatening gaze.

Thereafter, the black Shelby Supercar roared across the street before disappearing into the night.

Gwendolyn was subsequently carried back to Harrick Villa.

With a grim look on his face, Cedrick carefully laid her down on the bed.

He then stood in front of Gwendolyn and stared at her intently. From his heaving chest, it was clear that

he was still reeling from anger.

After giving his pants a tug, Gwendolyn looked up and explained in a demure voice, “I know where to

draw the line. What you saw wasn’t what you think it was. Caesar was a great help to me in Erihal.

That’s why I allowed him to greet me according to Erihal customs.”

Cedrick let out a cold snort, while the rage in his eyes didn’t diminish one bit.

“He’s just using it as an excuse to kiss your hand. From the way he looks at you, I can clearly tell that

he has feelings for you!”

While Gwendolyn was rendered speechless, Cedrick continued to tremble in anger.

“Gwendolyn, you’re going to get married next month. Yet you had dinner with another man behind your

husband’s back and even allowed him to kiss you!”

His words exasperated Gwendolyn. “I already told you that it’s nothing more than a meal. Besides, why

do you assume that I’ll cheat on you? Do you not have any trust in me?”

Gwendolyn’s tone grew solemn in response to her swelling anger.

Cedrick subsequently whipped out his phone and pointed his quivering finger at the message he

received from her.

“How do you expect me to trust you when you told me that it was a group dinner? Clearly, there were

only the two of you there! Gwendolyn, why did you lie to me for Caesar’s sake? How can you do this to

me?” Cedrick roared with reddened eyes.

Hidden behind his tears was a look of anger and disappointment.

Over the last few days, he had busied himself with the wedding preparations while worrying about her

safety at the opening ceremony.

While I was so occupied that I didn’t even have an appetite for lunch, what was she doing? She was

going to have a meal with another man behind my back. She even let him kiss her hand. Such an

outrageous act is unforgivable!

This was the first time he shot Gwendolyn such a vicious look.

Returning his gaze with a shocked look of her own, she questioned him in disbelief, “Why did you flare

your temper at me?”

Cedrick’s eyelashes quivered momentarily. Despite the glower on his face, his tone softened

subconsciously. “No, I didn’t.”

Tears began to well up in Gwendolyn’s eyes. “You did! Do you know how loud you were screaming at

me? Have you already forgotten the rules Kieran set for you?”

“Err…”

Gwendolyn seized the opportunity and raised her voice.

“I didn’t tell you the truth because I didn’t want you to overreact, which is exactly what you’re doing

now. My intentions were good, and obviously, I know where to draw the line! Yet you had to come

storming in and beat up my guest, making it look like I was cheating on you. Do you know how

ridiculous the whole scene was?”

Brows furrowed, Cedrick felt aggrieved by her words. “Me, ridiculous? He wanted to kiss my wife’s

hand! If he hadn’t helped you before this, I would have beaten him to death! Also, you clearly lied to me

today, Gwendolyn. How can you still claim to be in the right after that?”

Upon being screamed at, the enraged Gwendolyn gave him the side-eye. “Fine, since you insist that I

lied to you, so be it! What are you going to do about it? Do you want to cancel the engagement again?

Do you not love me anymore just because you’re frustrated with me again?”

Cedrick was stumped by her outburst.

Every time she brought up his cancellation of their previous engagement, he would be put in a spot.

“What else can I do, Gwendolyn? What else can I do with you?” he roared.

Overwhelmed by rage, Cedrick turned to face the wall and dropped to his knees.

His broad shoulders were still heaving heavily, while his fists were tightly clenched, a testament to his

unresolved anger.

Gwendolyn was shocked by his abrupt actions.

“What are you doing?”

Turning around, Cedrick snapped, “Isn’t it obvious? I’m down on my knees!”

Faced with his defiant tone and snarling expression, Gwendolyn was surprised to see him kneeling

down.

What in the world is going on?

She couldn’t help but feel amused. “Didn’t you just say I was at fault? Why are you down on your

knees? It’s not like I’m punishing you!”

A burning sensation stung Cedrick’s nose, while his eyes began to moisten. Amidst the squeeze in his

chest triggered by his anger, the pain in his knees made him feel increasingly pitiful.

“What else can I do? Now that you’re pregnant, I can’t hit or scold you. It’s not like I can bring myself to

do it anyway. Yet you remain defiant despite your mistakes, and there’s nothing I can do about it! I can

only blame myself for failing to keep you in line. Losing control of my emotions and screaming at you is

clearly my fault. That’s why I’m going to kneel here the entire night to reflect upon my actions!”

Toward the end of his speech, Cedrick’s voice took on a heavy nasal sound. Although he was kneeling,

he did it with an upright posture to express his dissatisfaction.

The scene took Gwendolyn by surprise.

How did he manage to sound so pathetic while using such an intimidating tone?
