"Yes. They're supposed to pay the ransom today. But everything's already been resolved. Pierre hasbeen rescued. He should be on his way to A City now." Luke did not hide anything from her.
Luke decided not to keep anything from her when he noticed how anxious Luca was in the morning.
Even though she was not involved in Pierre's matter, she was related to it in some way. Otherwise, shewould not have looked so absent-minded.
Luke did not want to see Luca upset.
Luca was surprised. She did not expect Pierre to be rescued last night.
If Pierre was rescued, then Amur would not have to go and collect the ransom today.
Luca's mood became calmer. She was eager to know the details of the rescue operation. "Who savedMr. Pierre?" asked Luca.
“Gordan," answered Luke honestly.
Luca was aware that it was Luke's men who saved him if Gordan was involved in it.

"Oh, it's Mr. Norton..." Luca nodded and took a sip of soy milk. Her appetite came back as she setaside her worries.
"How's Mr. Pierre doing?" Luca took a bite of the bread. She was curious about Pierre's exact conditionas Amur told her what happened to him before.
"Not so good. Gordan said that his leg is most likely lame, and he's skin and bones," Luke told her whatGordan reported to him.
Luca understood.
The people of the Island of Despair would not treat their hostages kindly even if they had an ulteriormotive.
Anyone who was not part of the organization would not be regarded as human whether they werekidnapped or captured by them.
Pierre's emaciation and malnourishment must have been due to mistreatment.
As for his lame leg, it must have been Amur who did that...
Amur was getting revenge on Pierre for what he did to her.
"What's on your mind?" Luke deliberately asked when he noticed Luca remained silent.
Luca shook her head. She took a big bite of the bread. She did not feel sorry for Pierre, but she feltuncomfortable knowing that Amur hurt someone for her sake.
