Chapter 1561

Leah looked at Ernest in shock, and her eyes were wide open.

She felt that Ernest seemed to be implying something. Was he trying to hint her?

Leah frowned for a second before she smiled. "I think you're pretty proactive."

Ernest's eyes narrowed and he gazed at Leah silently as if he was trying to figure out what shemeant.

Leah explained with a smile, "Ernest, you took the time to make porridge and take care of me. Howcan you say you're passive?"

Ernest was taken aback for a moment before he smiled. Leah was right.

He chuckled and said, "Actually, you're a very smart girl, Leah. You're even smarter than me."

She was able to quickly spot the loophole in his words and render him speechless.

Leah would make a fine lawyer indeed.

She wasn't a lawyer yet, but she had the temperament of one. She was quick witted and sharp.

Leah was stunned by his sudden praise as her charming eyes held a deeper gaze. She laughedand retorted, "Why so sudden? It feels like you're taking jabs at me instead, am I smart?"

Ernest smiled and looked at her with gleaming eyes. "What? Do you think you're dumb then?"

Leah had no comeback to that.

Ernest lowered his head and sorted out the cucumbers on the chopping board. His tone was verygentle. "You are very smart, and it's the truth. I think you'll make an amazing lawyer."

Leah was astonished.

"Really? What makes you so sure?"

"You have the qualities of a good lawyer," Ernest replied.

Leah shrugged her shoulders. Although she was glad that Ernest praised her, she was disappointedthat he did not admit his feelings for her.

As Ernest continued to tidy up the dishes, he had a serious expression on his face.

Leah wanted to say something, but she didn't know how to broach the subject.

She wondered if Ernest was trying to force her to make the first move.

However, she had no desire to do so as it felt like she was competing with Ernest.

When it came to love, Leah felt that the man should take the initiative to confess.

The first person to confess usually loved harder, and she wanted Ernest to love her more. That wasrather selfish on her end, but it was what she thought.

Therefore, she might as well not start a relationship at all if he did not love her more than she didhim.

Leah gazed at Ernest for some time, and she concluded that there was no way that she would takethe initiative.

Yeah, that was what she was going to do. Hence, Leah decided to play dumb.

Ernest waited for a beat longer before he continued cooking.

Meanwhile, Leah was watching from the side.

The kitchen was filled with a warm and amiable atmosphere.

Ernest asked, "Do you have vinegar?"

Leah replied, "Yes. It's in one of the cabinets, I'll get it for you."

Then, she reached down to open one of the cabinets. However, she felt unsteady on her feet.

"Argh!" She let out a cry of surprise.

Ernest immediately reached out to steady Leah before he asked anxiously, "What's wrong? Are youokay?"

Leah paused for a moment and quickly composed herself. She quickly shook his head and said,"It's nothing. I just felt lightheaded when I reached down just now, and I nearly fell over."

"You're not out of the woods yet." Ernest was extremely concerned, and he pulled Leah upwards.

However, he pulled too hard, and it caused Leah to collide with him. Her forehead slammed intoErnest's chin, and she fell into his embrace.

"Mmph!" Ernest grunted in a muffled voice.

Meanwhile, Leah was dumbfounded.

Her face was buried in Ernest's neck, but she couldn't smell his scent due to her blocked nose. However, his chiseled chest muscles stirred up some interesting feelings in her.

Her mind went blank, and her entire body forgot how to move.

Then, Ernest took a deep breath and steadied his breathing.

Leah came back to earth and hurriedly apologized. "I'm sorry, Ernest. Did I hurt you?"

She was beyond embarrassed, and her tone was frustrated.

On the other hand, Ernest did not push her away. Leah felt good in his arms, and she smelled faintlyof her shampoo. Her hair tickled his chin.

There was something brewing on the inside of his chest as well.

He said, "It's fine, don't worry about it."

Ernest did not let go despite what he said, and his hand was on Leah's waist.

They were in a rather provocative position, so Leah was at a loss as to what to do.

Then, she raised her head to look at Ernest's expression.

The moment she looked up, she saw Ernest gazing deeply at her.

A myriad of emotions flashed through their eyes as they locked gazes.

Leah gave Ernest a confused look. Before she could discern what he was feeling, Ernest said, "Areyou feeling better now? I'll get the vinegar while you go back to bed."

"I don't know. I'm still a little dizzy," Leah mumbled.

She actually didn't want to leave his embrace. She wanted to touch him more.

Alas, she couldn't say that.

Hence, she could only pretend to be dizzy in order to stay in his arms.

Ernest was very warm.novelbin

At first, Ernest was worried that he might be taking advantage of her if he held onto her for too long. However, he didn't expect Leah to answer him like that.

He was baffled, but he felt lucky to be able to hug her.

Then, he said, "Well, you can lean on me first."

Leah hummed in agreement and leaned into his embrace. A trace of glee flashed through her eyes.

Ernest probably didn't see it though.

Alas, she couldn't stay there for too long, so Leah said, "I feel better now."

As soon as she spoke, Ernest released her immediately without hesitation.

Frankly, Leah was a little disappointed at that. She straightened up and looked away from Ernest.Even though she was disheartened, she said slowly, "I'm going back to my room now."

Ernest noticed her disappointment and frowned. "If you feel like you'd get bored in your room, thenwhy not help me cook?"

Leah whipped around at the speed of light.

Ernest warned, "Hey! You'll pass out if you move

so quickly!"

However, Leah chuckled. "What do you mean? Won't you catch me when I fall? Your reflexes arepretty quick, Ernest!"

What was with her reaction?

He did not know whether to laugh or cry, and his gaze focused on Leah's face for a while before helooked away.

He sighed deeply before he handed an onion to Leah.

Leah immediately reached out and took it. "You want me to peel this onion right? I'll get to it rightaway."

"Okay, go ahead," he answered.

Leah obediently peeled the onion and then realized that something was wrong. She was sick, sowhy was Ernest making her help him?

A thought crossed Leah's mind. Could it be that Ernest didn't want her to leave the kitchen? Did hewant her to stay, or was it all just wishful thinking on her part?

Leah cast a doubtful gaze at Ernest, but he didn't react.

Either way, she wanted to spend more time with Ernest as well, as she rarely ever got the chanceto.

He had come home for a funeral, but he still took the time to take care of her. This was basically agift from God.

Leah handed the peeled onion to Ernest and asked, "Do you need me to do anything else?"

Ernest looked at her and he seemed to be struggling to find the words to say to her. In the end, hesaid, "You can go back and rest now!"

She replied, "Nah, I think I'll stay here in the kitchen with you."

Ernest was stunned.

Leah spoke her mind. "Honestly, I'm going to be bored to death in the room. At least I'll feel better ifI talk to you."

Ernest smiled at her words and replied, "Can you stand it? I'm going to heat up some oil to cook thecucumbers, and it won't smell good. You should wait outside."

Leah had to refrain from greasy foods as she was sick, so Ernest decided to pickle somecucumbers and fry up some eggs.

Meanwhile, Leah stared at him for a very long time.

After a while, she said, "Ernest, you will definitely be a good husband in the future."
