Chapter 1515

Gary glanced at Maria lazily, not saying a word.

However, Maria still found it strange that there was such a huge change in Gary's demeanour. Heseemed to have become more emphatic than before. She could not help but to tease Gary, "Areyou finally turning over a new leaf?"

"Why should I turn over a new leaf?" Gary questioned in a deep voice.

"Oh, yes." Maria nodded in agreement, "There's no need indeed."

Gary remained silent no matter how much Maria pushed him to talk. He looked at Maria with asmile, refusing to give in.

It was an unfruitful attempt at a showdown. There was no sense of satisfaction when Maria madefun of him.

In the end, the tension in the room became stale. Maria shut her mouth and stopped talking. However, she felt slightly uncomfortable with Gary's peculiar behaviour. She shot him a few moreglances and realized that he had become more reserved with more smiles on his face.

His arrogance was nowhere in sight.

Her initial teasing gradually turned to astonishment.

She continued, "Gary, what's the relationship between you and Celeste?"

Gary placed his cigarette and lighter into the drawer, ignoring Maria in the process.

"Are you kidding me? You've picked up smoking?" Maria was once again shocked, "When did youlearn to smoke?"

Gary raised his head to glance at her coldly, saying, "What's the matter? Are you trying to invademy privacy?"novelbin

"You have such a sharp tongue. I'm concerned about you." Maria entered the room and crinkled hernose at the scent of the cigar, "It seems that you've just smoked. Are you trying to smoke yourworries away?"

Gary narrowed his eyes and looked at Maria, at a loss for words, "Maria, if you want to mock me, doit. I promise I won't retaliate today."

"Nah, that isn't fun anymore, right?" Maria burst into a fit of laughter, "Are you still the Gary I used toknow? You didn't try to refute me at all. It's as if you've had your heart shattered into pieces."

Gary smiled and thought for a moment, "Are you taking advantage of my pitiful state right now totake revenge for my arrogance towards you in the past?"

Oh my god.

He was right.

There it was, Gary's wisdom had returned. Without hesitation, she offered, "That's right. Four yearsago, I promised to help you. And I will continue to help you four years later. Do you still needCeleste's updates in the future?"

Gary shook his head, seemingly composed. He looked at Maria, and after a brief pause, hecontinued, "There's no need. Maria, you should know that some things depend on fate. Our fate canonly be controlled by the two of us. Thank you for your kindness."

That time, he wanted to win her over by himself.

Gary understood that although he would work hard, no one knew what their outcome would be.Nevertheless, he wanted to achieve the fulfilment of love between him and Celeste through his ownefforts.

Maria looked at him in a daze. She understood what Gary was thinking and smiled knowingly asshe nodded.

"Gary, you're right. In fact, there's no one to rely on but yourself. When I heard from Pedro that youwere coming to London all the way from the United States to settle down for a month, I knew youwere starting to make your move."

Gary smiled and did not say anything. However, Maria was right.

He did take action, which was the decision he had made after careful consideration.

In other words, he came for Celeste, and only for Celeste.

His thesis research was just an excuse.

Could he still win her love that time?

Maria was still chatting with Gary upstairs.

On the lower floor, just as Celeste descended the stairs, Ernest came in through the door. Hisclothes were clean, and there were no raindrops on him.

That had always been Ernest. Even if it was raining outside, no matter how terrible the weatherwas, he would always remain presentable, not having the slightest wretchedness.

That was Ernest Jones.

As soon as he saw Celeste standing in the living room, he smiled and asked, "Is Gary here?"

Celeste nodded, "Yes, he's been here for three hours."

Ernest smiled as he observed Celeste's facial expression. There was a flicker of emotions in hiseyes before he flashed her a smile, "Celeste, he'll be staying here for a month."

With that, Ernest stopped talking, but Celeste understood that Ernest was asking if she wasmentally prepared.

She smiled and replied, "I know. We'll get along just fine."

She didn't try to explain any further. The single sentence indicated how she wanted to distanceherself from Gary.

Ernest was a smart person. Of course, he could tell that Celeste did not intend to get back into arelationship with Gary.

It seemed that the stubborn girl had her own plans.

When it came to love, everyone had different views. Ernest chuckled, "Don't feel stressed. Relax.Everything will turn out fine. Well, I'll head upstairs."

He pointed towards the stairs.

Celeste nodded, "Gary and Maria are both upstairs. Go on."

Maria, who was on the third floor with Gary, found Ernest joining her in sipping the tea. She couldn'thelp cackling, telling Ernest, "Ernest, it seems that both of us are worried about our poor old cousinGary and his relationship with Celeste. I say, why don't we drug them so they can sleep togethertonight?"

Gary frowned when he heard those words. What kind of an awful idea was that?

Ernest burst out laughing.

He then looked at Maria and sighed helplessly, "Have you been with Liam for too long? You're sucha pervert."

"If you call me a pervert, then so be it. Don't drag Liam into this. He's an innocent man." Maria triedher best to defend her man. Although Liam was in Northern City, Maria would always defend him.

There was no way anyone could defile and tease her beloved man.

"If Liam was indeed an innocent man, why would he have slept with you? If he's truly innocent, shouldn't he be free of lust and sexual desire?" Ernest asked in return with a wide smile on his face.

"Wow, Ernest, you seem to know everything. What about you? You're free of sexual desire, so couldit be that you're problematic?" Maria shrugged her shoulders and shot Ernest a jeering gaze.

Ernest frowned and said, "You didn't have to go that far. All I did was mock Liam, and now, you'redoubting my sexual ability. Is Liam that good?"

"Of course, Liam's the best."

"He's so good that you're even cursing me for being ill in defence of your man." Ernest felt helpless,"It's so heartbreaking to see that you value your lover over your cousin."

"Hmph, it doesn't matter if you bad mouth me, but you can't drag Liam into this. He's my sweetheart. You can't mention anything bad about him."

"Alright, fine. I was wrong." Ernest brushed it off and looked at Maria with a smile, "Drugging othersis a nasty trick."

Maria clicked her tongue, "Can you think of a better way? Don't you think they seem awkward withtheir bodies all tensed up? I think sleeping together may be the best way to solve the problem."

"That's the very last resort." Ernest shook his head, "I think this is a bad idea, and it may create a lotof new problems."

Maria pondered, muttering in her heart, "Will it?"

Gary felt the same way. He did not want to play dirty tricks on Celeste. She was pissed with him, butshe didn't express her anger. It was obvious she was still offended in the bottom of her heart.

She was afraid to face the future challenges with him, so Celeste had long given up on love.

That was the root of the problem.

Gary realized that Celeste was not just talking about breaking up with him at that time. She reallymeant it.

That realization made Gary depressed.

So it was naturally impossible to solve that problem after a one night stand.

"Thank you for your concern, but this is definitely a terrible idea." Gary glanced at Ernest and Maria, saying, "You two can continue talking. I'm going downstairs. I'm somewhat hungry."

Gary left the room.

Ernest glanced at Maria and said, "Look, he agrees that this is a dirty idea."

"Don't you think that Gary is acting differently this time?

Ernest nodded, "Yes, he has indeed changed. It means that he has realized the importance of thisproblem."

"Yes. He used to be such an arrogant person. He wouldn't even allow Celeste to go to the UnitedStates. Look, although Gary took the initiative to come to her this time, Celeste ignores him all thetime. The tables have turned. Men who are too proud of themselves will never be able to chasegirls." After saying that, Maria looked at Ernest meaningfully, "All the members in the Jones familyseem to be slightly proud of themselves. Ernest, be careful. We wouldn't want that to happen toyou, would we?"

Ernest frowned, "What do you mean by that?"

"Oh, nothing. Continue to pretend as if you don't understand me. I was talking nonsense." Mariasighed and said, "But it seems like someone is trying to pursue Leah as of recently. When I waschatting with her the other day, I noticed a pile of roses in her room. Beautiful ravishing red in colour.I asked her about it, and she said it was from the person who was trying to win her over."

Ernest was stunned. He lowered his gaze and said nothing, his face devoid of emotions.

Maria stole a glance at Ernest and continued, "Ernest, you can head downstairs. I kind of missLeah. I think I'll give her a call. I wonder if she's dating anyone right now."

Ernest lowered his gaze, indescribable emotions swirling in his eyes, but Maria did not fail to noticehis dumbfounded expression earlier.

It seemed that some things were not as simple as she had thought. There might be some changes.

Ernest quickly smiled and said, "Well, you can take your time with your call. I'll excuse myself to myroom. Gary and Celeste are downstairs. You should head down later."

Maria looked at him and gestured "OK".

After returning to his room, Ernest turned on his phone to scroll through his Facebook posts.

Leah hadn't posted in a month.

She hadn't uploaded a single post nor replied to his comments. Their chats remained frozen in time.It had been more than two months. They did not keep in touch, nor were there any messages.

He looked at his phone, contemplating sending a message, but after several attempts of trying tocome up with a suitable greeting, he did not send her anything in the end.

On the other side of the screen, Leah was scrolling through her own phone. She was in Ernest'schatbox, attempting to greet him. Just as she was about to send a message, the screen indicatedthat the other party was typing. She waited, but she never received the message.
