Chapter 550

Zhou Yao was the most accomplished descendant of his generation. His parents had arranged for himto be the next in line to be the patriarch, and he was currently greeting the guests at the entrance. novelbin

He was dressed in a dark green military uniform, which made him look gallant and handsome.

His polite and hospitable demeanor made him very popular among the guests. They regarded him as arare prodigy for being so accomplished at a young age.

With him at the helm, there was a chance that the Zhou family would rise again.

Some of the guests that were around his age were regarding him with admiration. The women werediscussing him excitedly.

"Wow, is that Zhou Yao? He looks so handsome."

"I've heard that he's already a lieutenant general at such a young age. Grandmaster Zhou skipped ageneration and appointed him as the next patriarch of the Zhou family. He has a bright future ahead ofhim!"

"Not only that, my cousin is an ace student of the Yenching Military Academy, and General YangJingyu, the leader of the Yenching military region, has recognized him as his godson. It's only a matterof time before my cousin is promoted to general!"

Zhou Li's chin was lifted high as she bragged about her cousin Zhou Yao. She felt very smug when sheheard the other people praising him, as though she was the one being praised.

She could not help but feel proud when she saw the guests streaming into the courtyard. It was proofthat the Zhou family was still prospering, thanks to the young descendants.

Chu Feng, the b*stard child who was not worthy of entering the family records, could never hope toachieve this.

Zhou Li chuckled and scanned the area for Chu Feng. She could not wait to see Chu Feng and hisfamily being helplessly bullied and battered once more.

Several relatives from the older generation were sitting in the grand hall. They regarded Zhou Yaoproudly.

Zhou Yang, the eldest of the siblings, was dressed in an expensive suit. "Wen, Yao is becoming moreand more like the patriarch of the family. That's pretty amazing," he said.

"Heheh, Yao has always been an intelligent boy, but he lacks experience," Zhou Wen, the secondamong the siblings, said with a grin on his face. He was dressed in a tunic and wore gold-rimmedspectacles, but the pride in his eyes was evident for all to see.

"You're so humble, Wen. I'm sure you've been a good role model to your son. That is the way how aZhou family descendant should behave," Yu Hui said in an attempt to flatter Zhou Wen. "Yao is anactual descendant of the Zhou family. He's so much better than some random 'adopted' b*stard child."

As she said that, she glared at Zhou Lie and Liu Minglan from the corner of her eye.

The other Zhou family members grinned knowingly. They could not wait for the drama to start.

Zhou Lie and his family were the subject of ridicule every year the descendants gathered at theancestral residence. This year, their adopted son Chu Feng came along, which meant that there wasanother person to make fun of.

Only Zhou Yong reacted otherwise. He frowned slightly and tugged his wife's sleeve, reminding her notto go too far with her mockery.

He had never differentiated a biological descendant from an adopted son. Chu Feng, Zhou Peng, andZhou Yao were equally his nephews.

Zhou Lie was calmly smoking his pipe as though none of it mattered to him.

Zhou Yang and the others were curious. In the past, Zhou Lie would fidget uneasily while they mockedhim. Why was he so confident this year?

He scoffed at Zhou Lie's reaction, thinking that it was not as fun this year.

Suddenly, he grinned and said, "Lie, what have you brought for the family gathering and Father's 80thbirthday? Are you bringing any guests too?"

The people around them looked at Zhou Lie disdainfully. Even the "gentlemanly" Zhou Wen was alsosmirking.
