Chapter 788

Kevin held a black umbrella as he followed Zach.

Zach was dressed in a black coat over a black suit, exuding a chilling aura as he strode in. He still had

his phone call with Madelyn.

Kai entered the foyer alongside them. Once inside, Kevin closed the umbrella. A servant took Zach's

coat as he removed it and hung it on a coat rack. Zach exchanged some words with Kevin before

making his way to Madelyn, who was standing at the foot of the stairs.

Madelyn was taken by surprise to see Zach. Her face remained neutral as he approached. She handed

her phone, still on the line, to Margaret and turned away without making eye contact, heading back to

her room with Dalton in her arms.

Inside the room, Dalton had a flushed face and felt feverish. Kai, wearing a stethoscope around his

neck, was examining him. Madelyn wondered if it had to do with their walk in the garden the night

before.

Initially, she had thought it was just a regular cough, but after two days, her concerns had grown,

prompting her to want to take him to the hospital.novelbin

Kai glanced thoughtfully at Zach, then calmly assured Madelyn, "The child is fine. It's just a common

cold. I'll give him a fever-reducing shot, and he'll be okay."

With gentle precision, Kai withdrew a fine needle and inserted it into the back of Dalton's hand.

Madelyn was puzzled. "If it's just a common cold, couldn't he just take some medicine? Why does he

need a shot?"

Kai, still focused on his task, didn't respond.

Zach held Madelyn's waist and spoke tenderly, "Don't worry. Trust him. He won't make a mistake."

Kai finally replied, "If you're still concerned, you can take the child to the hospital. Also, your medical

report will be ready in three days. You won't have to go to the hospital specifically for that."

Zach added, "Let's prepare some clothes; we'll head to the hospital later."

Madelyn frowned, her concern deepening. She had a growing sense that both Kai and Zach were

keeping something from her.

She thought, 'These two bastards are cunning.'

Furious, she shook off Zach's hand. "You told me not to leave the house, and now you want me to pack

and head to the hospital. You're the one making all the decisions! If you're so concerned, then you take

care of the child," she snapped, and she stormed downstairs. Margaret sensed that something was

amiss and quickly followed her.

Left alone in the room, Zach and Kai engaged in a serious conversation. "Are you truly not planning to

inform her about this?" Kai asked, his tone equally serious.

Zach replied firmly, "She doesn't need to know."

Kai replied, "I've said it before, keeping Cecilia by your side is trouble. Now, she's already hurt

someone around you. And someday, she'll target Madelyn."

Zach said, "I know how to handle it. How's the child?"

Kai answered, "Luckily, we discovered it in time. If the toxins had spread to his vital organs even a few

days later, the consequences could have been catastrophic. The antidote seems to be working, and

with a few more days of treatment, his condition should improve significantly."

Zach simply nodded. He couldn't believe that Cecilia's greed would lead her to harm an innocent child.

Madelyn had followed through on her words and was keeping her distance from Dalton, leaving Zach

as the one who had to care for him. He even brought the child to the company.

Madelyn was finally getting a chance to relax at home. The heating made the environment cozy, a tray

of fresh fruits within arm's reach. The TV was playing a show she wasn't particularly interested in. She

wore a simple knitted dress and was so comfortable that she was on the verge of falling asleep.

At Jardin Corporation's high-level executive meeting, Zach held Dalton with one arm while attentively

listening to the various department heads' reports.
