Chapter 414

"I'm a picky eater. I want to have my cinnamon oatmeal now."

"I'll make it for you," Madelyn said as she put down her backpack.

Ethan grabbed Madelyn's hand and said to the old woman, "You're an old servant of the Arnold family,

so you should know some manners. Besides, you'll get indigestion by having food this late at night.

Marta, send her home."

"Yes, sir," answered Marta.

"Hold on... Marta, do we have grated cinnamon?"novelbin

"Yes," Marta replied.

"I don't have a lot of homework today. I'll make some oatmeal for you. It should be ready in about 40

minutes."

Evelyn chuckled and said, "Thank you."

"No worries."

'That's how the elderly are. The older they get, the less they sleep,' she thought.

Madelyn went to the kitchen.

Evelyn sighed, "You and her are like the oatmeal and cinnamon in here. When cooked together, the

taste is the same. But if you add or remove something, the taste changes. Think about what I said. Tell

her that she doesn't need to make the oatmeal. Madelyn has a test the day after tomorrow, right? You

shouldn't disturb her in the next two days. Wait until her test is over before you talk things out with her.

Don't let her overthink."

She continued, "This child is more patient and understanding than you think she is. But the more she

behaves this way, the harder it will be for you to win her back if you wrong her. Cherish her. From what

it looks like, she seems qualified to be the daughter-in-law of the Arnold family."

After Evelyn left, Ethan dismissed the other servants. He stared at the woman in the kitchen, and his

gaze darkened.

Ethan had been suffering ever since they started giving each other the silent treatment. When he

thought of how she did not like him that much and only used him as a shield, he could not help but lose

control over his emotions.

'Perhaps... It's my pride,' he reasoned.

Ethan did not want to admit defeat, but he had imagined countless times how he would feel if Madelyn

were to leave. He would suffer and be in even more pain.

Just as Madelyn was pouring some water, she felt a pair of hands on her waist. The man hugged her

and rested his chin on her shoulder. Madelyn stiffened and paused, "What's the matter?"

"I'm sorry! I should've considered your feelings. I've already asked Leyton to handle the reporters. And

those magazines... they won't be sold anymore," he said as he breathed in Madelyn's familiar scent.

The initial irritancy he felt vanished.

Madelyn had never imagined he would apologize. After all, he was a prideful man.

"It's fine. I'm fine. You don't have to apologize to me."

"It's my fault for not taking your feelings into consideration."

Madelyn actually felt touched hearing him say sorry. This was the first time somebody had said these

words to her.

In her past life, Zach had wronged her many times.

She waited an entire lifetime to hear him say these words, but all she got was his indifference and

impatience.

Madelyn turned around and hugged his neck. There was not much emotion in her eyes.

'I should apologize to him... because...' she thought.
