Chapter 350

It had not killed her, but she had developed a high fever of 104 degrees Fahrenheit. If the maid had not

found her, Hayden might not even have called a doctor to look at her.

After that, Madelyn had trouble breathing. She had to take a lot of yucky medicine every day. Too much

medicine can be bad for you, especially if you are sick for a long time. So, Madelyn started to feel

weaker and weaker.

'Maybe I'm not alone after all. There really are people who care about me,' she thought.

The next day, she slept in. 'If I keep missing morning classes, Ms. Hann will probably talk to me about

it. I can't be late again tomorrow.'

"Miss Jent, didn't Mr. Arnold come down with you?" a maid asked.

Madelyn was taking some medicine sweetened with honey, so it was not too bitter. "Hasn't he gotten up

yet?"

"No, I haven't seen him yet."

"I'll go get him."

Madelyn finished eating and headed upstairs. When she arrived at the room, she noticed the door was

slightly open. She gave a gentle knock, and the door opened further. Inside, Ethan was shirtless,

showing off his muscular body. His arms and neck were covered in tattoos with unusual designs that

did not resemble any animal. Madelyn's eyes widened, and she quickly looked away. Ethan noticed her

standing there and grabbed a gray shirt from the bed, putting it on and fastening the buttons.

"Aren't you worried about being late?" Ethan asked.

"Why'd you sleep in today?" Madelyn inquired.

"I have a week-long business trip in Marisburg," Ethan explained. "I'll get George to remind you to take

your medicine while I'm gone."

"Do you want me to help you pack?" she asked, eager to do something for him since he had done so

much for her.

"That would be great," he said.

Since she was already running late, a few extra minutes did not matter. She was accustomed to

packing for him. Madelyn zipped up the suitcase. As she got to her feet, a hand suddenly gripped her

waist. She tensed up. "Wh-What's happening?"

"If only you could grow up faster," he whispered into her ear, his breath warm against her skin.

She turned around and helped him straighten his tie. "Let's go downstairs, or I'll miss my first class."

Ethan lowered his head and kissed her lips gently. "I'll bring you a present when I come back."

"Okay," she replied.

When she got back to school, she was late for the first class. Ethan offered to walk her to the school

entrance, but she quickly declined, not wanting a repeat of the previous night's scene.

The first class of the day was a test. Madelyn hurried in through the back door, took out her pencilnovelbin

case, and began working on the questions. With only half an hour left, she had managed to finish just

half the test, leaving the essay questions unanswered. After class, as she accidentally knocked her

eraser off her desk and bent down to pick it up, Jadie beat her to it.

"Thanks," Madelyn said.

Jadie put the eraser back on the desk. "Did you give my notes to Forrest?"

Madelyn suddenly remembered. "Oh, sorry, I still have your notebook. Don't worry, I'll give it back to

you tomorrow. Do you need it now? You can borrow mine in the meantime." Ethan had neatly

organized Madelyn's notes, marking and detailing all the important parts for the final exams. He had

even highlighted the most crucial points for her.
