He asked, “What about Madelyn?”

Zach extinguished the cigarette in his hand. He stood up from his chair and walked to the floor–to–ceiling window.

Madelyn stayed until an hour before Zach finished work. She then made an excuse to leave. As soonas she reached the door of the baby’s ward, she heard the baby crying. She thought, ‘How could Iforget about him?!‘
She hurriedly entered the ward. A nurse was carrying him trying to soothe him. As soon as the nursesaw Madelyn, she handed the baby over to her, “I’m sorry, miss. He cries a lot, and I couldn’t calm himdown.”
Madelyn responded, “It’s okay. You can go and do your work. I’ll take care of him.”
“Okay.” The nurse left the room while carrying a medical tray.

It was quite strange because this baby would cry when anyone carried him other than Madelyn. Even ifMadelyn did not hold him, he would smile when he saw her.
