A tear shed by Madelyn fell onto his gaunt face. As the scalding tear touched his skin, Ethan in the bedseemed to stir. Listening to the footsteps approaching the door, Madelyn quickly wiped away the tearson her chin, sniffed, and acted as if nothing had happened.

The bodyguard entered, “Ms. Jent, you should head back now. Mr. Jardin is already at the Floral Loftand wants us to take you there now.”

“I got it. Go outside and wait for me.’
