Chapter 639

The night in France looked a lot like Venturia. The city lights shone like diamonds.

Zach gazed at the view from the eighty–eighth floor, his eyes all Icy. He had a cigarette hanging fromhis lips, and he had to block the wind with his hand to light it.

A puff of smoke drifted away from Zach, and Cecilia Samford moved closer, sounding kinda Irritated asshe asked, “Zach, I’ve given in to you twice already. What more do you want? You know you can’t bewith Madelyn.”

Cecilia, just like Madelyn, had been reborn. She had thought that by getting involved early, she couldget a bigger share of Jardin Corporation after helping Zach start it up, so she could control him. Butnow, everything seemed to be going all wrong.

Cecilia realized that Zach’s connection with Madelyn was tangled and tricky. Even though Cecilia andZach had been tight in a previous life, now she sensed she was just a piece in his quest for power.

Zach glanced at Cecilia. He noticed that she bore a strong resemblance to Jadie, but Jadie didn’t havethat authoritative presence.

He couldn’t ignore the fact that Cecilia was just as sharp in business as he was. She always seemed tounderstand his desires. If there were no other options, she would be a solid choice for him.novelbin

However, Zach wasn’t fond of being controlled, and he didn’t appreciate it when someone pushed him.“Right now, it’s all about business. Why do you think you have the right to talk about my personalstuff?”

“As your future wife, don’t I have that right?” Cecilia replied firmly. Indeed, they were acting like amarried couple in the midst of an argument.

A wisp of smoke veiled Zach’s dim eyes. He flicked his cigarette, letting the ashes drop into theashtray. “Are you really that sure I’m going to marry you?”

“Are you planning to burn bridges? Zach Jardin, remember who’s been helping you get where you arenow. And don’t forget the conditions you agreed to before.”

Zach tilted his head, sending her a clear signal of warning.

Three years ago, when Cecilia was reborn, she had spilled all the details about their past life to Zach atthe hospital

“I know you won’t believe me right now. But trust me, once I finish college, I’ll be there to help you riseto the top. I’ll be your right–hand person, a real force to reckon with.”

Zach found it amusing and replied, “Just take care of yourself.”

Cecilia stopped him, saying. “You might not believe me now, but if I keep my promise, marry me! That’smy only condition.”

Zach didn’t say much in response. Even if he did, it wasn’t easy for him to trust someone he found a bitstrange.

His eyes held darkness and uncertainty as he looked at Cecilia. He had only helped her because hereyes reminded him of Madelyn’s, the innocent and naive girl who had vanished back then.

After some digging, Zach learned that Cecilia’s family was going through financial troubles, and hermother was disabled.

Ultimately, he chose to cover Cecilia’s tuition fees. It wasn’t solely because he had the money to do so;there was a crucial reason behind it: Cecilia was exceptionally sharp. He viewed the money heinvested in her education as a valuable opportunity. And it yielded results

beyond his expectations.

Zach asked, “You seriously believe that I couldn’t have gotten to where I am today without you?

“Let’s, for a moment, suppose that all this talk about past lives is true.

“If that’s the case, my old me in past life already had everything I’ve got now. It implies it was destinedto occur. It’s just a matter of sooner

or later, and you’ve merely helped speed things up.”

He flicked away the cigarette butt and continued, “Considering your family’s financial situation, with amonthly paycheck of just a grand or two, can you handle your mom’s medical bills, not to mention theyearly tuition at Ventropolis University? And don’t forget about the rent in Ventropolis!”
