To Wincy’s surprise, Zach seemed to figure her out with just one look. She had gotten a bit of plasticsurgery to change her face, but it was kinda weird that she still looked kinda like the
person in that picture. She had done some stuff to her eyes recently, which were a little puffy, but onehad to really stare to notice.
Trying not to look too nervous, Wincy crossed her arms and acted cool. “Do we know each other?” Shespotted some papers with her pictures on his desk and couldn’t help but ask, “How much do you knowabout me?”novelbin
But before Zach could say anything, she grabbed the file folder and spilled the pictures and documentsout.
When she saw those photos, Wincy froze. They were all pictures of her from way back, even beforeshe changed her face, from when she was in elementary school to her college days. Her hands wereshaking like crazy. “Wh -Where did you get these? How did you find my old pictures?”
“I told you, when you’re checking out someone like me, I gotta know who you are too. It’s just beingcareful, and besides, finding info about a smart international student like you isn’t hard.” Zach stayedcool, checking his watch. “So, how much longer are we gonna do this? My time’s precious, and I can’twaste it here with you.”
Wincy slammed the table and stood up. “Then tell me the truth. I know him well; he might hang out withthe wrong crowd, but he’d never hurt someone for no reason. Ending up in jail like this… is this all partof your plan?”
Zach was running out of patience. You’ve got two minutes to decide. Leave on your own, or I’ll havesomeone take you out.”
He added, “You’ve barely been back in the country, and here you are, questioning me without knowingthe whole story. Making this situation worse won’t help anyone. Think it through and figure things outfor yourself.”
Zach’s words got interrupted by his ringing phone. He glanced at the caller ID, then turned and strolledover to a big window. His face softened a bit as he answered, “Madelyn… Is there something youneed?”
Madelyn, on the other end of line, looked at Ethan, who was next to her, and talked slowly, “Tonight,can you and Father come over? We should have dinner and talk about the engagement plans. I knowit’s a bit of trouble for you. “She sounded deliberate, but you could tell she was tense.
Zach gave a small smile. “Of course, be there on time.” ???? “Great, I’ll be waiting.”
With that, he hung up after just a few short words. Zach’s expression was hard to read, but for amoment, his gaze showed some serious intensity. Suddenly, the room felt colder.
After Zach ended the call, Wincy came up to him, looking determined. She had a little mole under hereye, something Madelyn didn’t have, making her even more alluring. “…I’m definitely gonna dig deeperinto this. Whether it was my brother’s fault or not, you’re under a big suspicion. Don’t give me anyreason to catch you.”
Without looking at her, Zach turned and called out, “Kevin.”
Kevin walked in through the door. ”
Yes, Mr. Jardin.”
“Tell all the departments the meeting’s rescheduled, it will start in ten minutes.
“Understood.” Kevin glanced at Wincy, a moment of confusion crossing his face. ‘Why does she look somuch like Miss. Jent? Could it be… plastic surgery?’
“Anything else, Miss Burton?” Kevin asked.
Wincy stared at Zach for a moment, realizing what she had done. She walked up to the desk andpicked up the photos. “I’ll take these with me for now. And in the future… you’re not allowed toinvestigate me. Otherwise, I have every right to accuse you of invading my personal privacy.”
With that said, Wincy, in her high- heeled shoes, put her sunglasses back on and left the office.
Kevin questioned, “Mr. Jardin, are you just going to let her make a scene in the company like this? Ifshe finds out about Randall’s situation, it could spell trouble. Plus… it might not be good for your otheridentity if it gets exposed.”
Zach replied calmly, “I’ve got it handled. Let’s head to the meeting.”
Kevin added, “I got a call from Ms. Jolie. She wants out of prison and asked for our help. She alsowants us to sabotage Ethan and Madelyn’s engagement.”
Zach didn’t show any mercy in his response, “Let her stay where she is. She brought this on herself byacting recklessly. This is the consequence of not following instructions.”
