Leyton and George had already left when Madelyn returned after taking the call. Now, only Ethan andMadelyn were in the tiny apartment.
Ethan noticed Madelyn’s expression was not great. So, he asked, “What’s wrong?”
Madelyn evasively replied, “My father asked about what happened last night. It’s fine.”
Actually, she had been scolded by Hayson. Everyone would look unhappy after being scolded.
Madelyn continued, “Anyway, I’ve made some pancakes. Do you want to eat some? It’s still very earlynow. You can take a nap after you eat.”
Ethan affectionately looked at her as he said, “Okay.”
After they had their breakfast, Madelyn brought Ethan to her bedroom.
The room was clean and tidy. There was even a huge doll on the bed that was very eye-catching.
Madelyn made the bed for him and said, “It isn’t as comfortable as your home, and the condition here isquite poor. Please bear with it.”
Ethan asked, “What’ll you do when I nap?”
Madelyn answered, “I still have two hours of free time. Since I’m already awake, I’ll pack my things andgo outside to do some homework. I won’t disturb you.”
Ethan grabbed her hand, “Sleep with me for a while.”
They were looking at each other. Madelyn wanted to reject him. But when she thought about himlooking for her the entire night, her heart softened, and she agreed.
They lay on the bed while Madelyn faced away from him. Ethan hugged her tightly from behind. Hisbody was warm. Madelyn just stayed still like a doll.
Madelyn carefully got up when the alarm went off for the third time. She saw he was still sleepingsoundly. When she was about to leave after wearing her shoes, the phone on the desk suddenly rang.It was Ethan’s phone.
The caller’s name displayed on the screen was “Donna Jolie.”novelbin
The name sounded familiar to Madelyn. But she could not remember who the person was.
Initially, she wanted to switch off the phone to avoid disturbing his sleep. But she decided against it,took the phone with her, and walked out of the room.
Meanwhile, Leyton came back into the apartment.
When she was at the door, she saw Leyton sitting on the sofa. Upon seeing her, he stood up andgreeted, “Ms. Jent.”
He then looked at the phone in her hand.
Madelyn nodded. She pointed at the closed bedroom door and spoke softly, “He’s still sleeping.Someone called him just now.
I took his phone out because I feared it might disturb him. Can you check if it’s an important call?”
Leyton took the phone over, “You could actually answer the call.”
Madelyn did not respond to it. She checked the time and said, “I need to go to school now.”
Leyton offered, “I’ll take you there!”
Madelyn declined politely, “It’s fine. It’s just a few minutes’ walk. You stay here and take care of him.You didn’t rest well last night, either. You can lie down on the sofa here for a while. Though, I’m sorryyou have to sleep on the sofa.”
Leyton nodded, “It’s all right.”
After he watched Madelyn leave, he looked at the caller’s name, who called again. He frowned as hethought, ‘This woman is so despicable. She deleted the text message Ms. Jent sent to Mr. Arnold. Andyet, she still audaciously called Mr. Arnold as if nothing had happened.’
