Looking at Xandros, who was captured, Remus wanted to rescue him but was powerless to do So.
“Let me give you a piece of advice. Even if you’ve seized Mr. Xandros, it’s absolutely impossible for youto utilize him to force King Lucian to withdraw his troops. King Lucian is very ambitious. He would nevergive up this opportunity to annex Imperial Beast City just for the sake of his son. If his son dies, he cansimply produce more offspring. “Mr. Quayle, what nonsense are you talking about? My dad wouldn’t disregard me!”
Xandros bellowed in anger at once after listening to Remus’ speech. Mr. Quayle’s statement is nodifferent from sentencing me to death! If I have no value, Jared will surely kill me!
“Don’t worry. I won’t ask for King Lucian to withdraw his troops. I just want to exchange his son forsomething,” Jared replied.
He knew that rulers and military leaders were often ruthless. They would never abandon a territorywithin their grasp for the sake of a son. That was why Jared hadn’t planned on using Xandros tothreaten Lucian into retreating either.
“What do you want in exchange?” Remus asked.
“The Divine Bow,” Jared uttered indifferently.
“The Divine Bow?”
Remus was instantly shocked. He widened his eyes in bewilderment at Jared. “How could King Lucianpossibly have the Divine Bow? Have you made a mistake?”
It seemed Remus was also aware of the Divine Bow’s existence but didn’t know the bow was inLucian’s possession.
“It doesn’t matter whether he has it or not. Your only duty is to relay the message.” With that, Jaredstarted walking back to Imperial Beast City, dragging Xandros with him.
“Mr. Quayle, save me! You must save me! Hurry up and tell my dad to give that bow to him!” Xandrosyelled.
He didn’t know what the Divine Bow was, but regardless, he didn’t think anything was more importantthan his life. Only after Jared hauled Xandros into Imperial Beast City did Remus let out a sigh and turnto leave.
As the duo entered Imperial Beast City, Yuven,. followed by a crowd, approached them.
As the battle at the foot of the city wall had caught the attention of the soldiers manning the wall, theyhad reported the commotion to Yuven.
When Yuven saw Jared towing Xandros along into the city, he couldn’t help but be stunned and asked,“Mr. Chance, w-what’s going on?”novelbin
Yuven was under the impression that Jared had raided the enemy camp at night and capturedXandros.
“This brat sneaked over, and I happened to encounter him, so I caught him,” Jared explainednonchalantly..
“That’s great! Now that we’ve taken him captive, King Lucian wouldn’t dare to attack us anymore. Wecan use Xandros to threaten his father to retreat,” Ivasha chirped while looking at Xandros, whose facewas swollen and filled with fear.
“You’re oversimplifying the matter. There’s no way King Lucian will withdraw his troops just to saveXandros,” Yuven responded.
“Why not? Would he just watch his son die?” Ivasha was baffled, unable to wrap her mind around herfather’s words. However, Yuven didn’t answer, nor did he know how to explain because that was justthe way of royal families.
If Ivasha were to be held hostage, and Yuven were given the choice to save her by giving up ImperialBeast City, he reckoned he wouldn’t abandon the city either.
The reason was that he couldn’t sacrifice the entire Imperial Beast City and its soldiers for the sake ofone person, no matter who that person was.
Noticing Yuven caught in an awkward position, Jared hastily uttered, “All right. Let’s not discuss thisanymore. It doesn’t matter even if they attack the city tomorrow. I’ve set up an offensive arcane arrayoutside the city wall. If they dare to attack, a one-way trip to hell awaits them!”
“I feel so much more at ease with you around, Mr. Chance.” Yuven nodded, then instructed hissubordinates to lock Xandros up in the dungeon.
