Chapter 68 Helping to Pick Vegetables

Ranita's frustration was mounting.

Fortunately, the elevator had reached their floor, and she swiftly stepped out, eager to avoid anyfurther interaction with Brendon. He trailed behind her, observing the anger swelling in her cheeks, inexplicably lifting his own spirits.

The workday was drawing to a close, yet everyone in the secretary's office remained, except forCaleb. Ranita worked at Stuart's Corp and had her own modest office within the secretary'sdepartment.

As she made her way towards her office, Brendon suddenly called out, "Ranita, come to my office!"

Although Ranita could easily get annoyed by trivial matters during an elevator ride, she understoodthe significance of their upcoming meeting and could distinguish between what truly mattered andwhat didn't. Without saying much, she followed Brendon into his office.

"Have a seat and eat," Brendon instructed, pointing to a takeout box on his desk. "We only havetwenty minutes for dinner."

In the past, when they were both swamped with work, they would often share meals like this. Therewere many foods he disliked, but Ranita wasn't picky, so she would always help finish them off.

"I'll change my clothes first," Brendon said, adding, "Remember not to give me anything I dislike."

Ranita was about to protest. They were already divorced, so why should she go out of her way toaccommodate him? But Brendon walked away too quickly, even closing the lounge door behindhim!

Ranita glanced at the time. The video conference was scheduled for an hour later, and afterfinishing her meal, she still needed to review and verify the materials for the meeting. Time wasrunning out.

So, Ranita didn't wait for Brendon and began eating her takeout alone. When Brendon emergedand saw the untouched box, he furrowed his brow and asked, "You didn't pick out my food?"

"Mr. Stuart, selecting your food isn't part of my job description! How about... you call Miss Murphy?Maybe she can come over?" Ranita replied nonchalantly.

Ranita was on a roll!

Once again, she left Brendon seething like an inflated pufferfish.

By the time Shannon arrived, the food had gone cold! Moreover, Shannon had no clue aboutBrendon's preferences...

"Eat without talking and sleep without speaking. Mr. Stuart, if you have anything else to say, waituntil I finish eating!" Ranita buried her head in her meal, but her appetite was lackluster. She tookonly a few bites, then set down her chopsticks and proceeded to unwrap a lemon candy right infront of Brendon!

"You used to dislike candy, didn't you?" Brendon frowned, picking at the dishes in his lunchbox, wasting food.

"I like it now!" Ranita replied casually, tossing the candy wrapper into the takeout bag.novelbin

Brendon glanced at it again and suddenly recognized the colorful candy wrappers! Brendon had agood memory and immediately recalled seeing something similar on Steve's desk!

Steve was a surgeon who often performed surgeries on seriously ill children, so he kept a jar ofcolorful candies in his office to cheer them up from time to time.

Did Steve give these candies to Ranita?

Was Steve treating Ranita like a child?

How childish!

Brendon inwardly rolled his eyes and bit down harder on his cheek while eating!

"Mr. Stuart, I'm finished eating. I'll go organize some documents first. When it's time for the meeting,I'll return to the conference room!" Ranita announced, rising with the support of the sofa armrests. However, as soon as she stood upright, dizziness struck her hard, and everything went black beforeher eyes...

"Ranita!" Brendon called out softly yet urgently when he witnessed what happened. Her body wentlimp, but he caught her just in time, cradling her in his arms.

Their lips seemed to graze each other's corners slightly; they felt warmth against their skin as hishands held her waist tightly...
