Chapter 158 Cramps

Ranita didn't continue reading anymore; not because she didn't want to but because she couldn'tbear doing so anymore.

She feared using up all of her courage only for pain beyond measure waiting around every corneronce again.

The night enveloped everything around her as Ranita tossed and turned in bed - exhausted butunable move while remaining painfully alert mentally speaking.

Without Brendon, the sound of insects seemed to become more peaceful. The night was heavy withdew. Ranita fell into a deep sleep without knowing how much time had passed. In her dream, shefelt like her legs were soaked in ice water, causing her to constantly curl up from the cold.

"Hiss..." Suddenly, a sharp pain woke Ranita up from her slumber. She struggled to sit up with anexpression of extreme pain on her face. Her right calf was cramping up and the muscles felt likethey were suddenly being crushed, causing indescribable agony that left Ranita unable to move.

It hurt so much!

Ranita tried hard to straighten out her leg but it was no use; she collapsed onto the bed writhing inpain for what felt like an eternity.

Finally, after enduring through unbearable suffering for what seemed like forever, the pain graduallysubsided and Ranita's labored breathing slowed down as well.

It really hurt too much!

Panting heavily on the bed as if she had just been pulled out of water; sweat drenched all over herback due to intense discomfort and agony that had consumed every inch of her body.

Unable to bear it any longer, Ranita called Brendon immediately for help even though it was late atnight. The phone rang only once before he answered it promptly.

"Brendon..." Ranita's voice sounded hoarse and weak from all the excruciating pain she'd beenexperiencing earlier on.

The next second, Shannon's sweet voice came through instead, "Rantia? Are you looking forBrendon? He just went into shower now!"

"You must have something urgent if you're calling Brendon this late at night," Shannon continuedspeaking in a soft tone full of concern. "I'll go call him right away."

Ranita remained silent while listening attentively on other end of line; wondering whether or notBrendon would stay by Shannon's side until midnight?

"Rantia? Why aren't you saying anything? Are you angry?" Shannon asked anxiously. "I didn't meanit today... I really did have an accident..."

"Can you let Brendon stay with me tonight please?" She pleaded softly, "I'm scared... I just want himhere beside me... Please don't be mad."

Although Shannon spoke gently and pitifully throughout their conversation, Ranita couldn't help butfeel that each word carried arrogance and conceit within them. Shannon could easily make Brendonturn around and come back to her with just one sentence.

However, Ranita was nothing more than a clown who added atmosphere for the main character. She couldn't help feeling bitter about this realization.

Ranita suddenly felt cold inside as if made of steel. "No, I'm not angry. Bye." She hung up the phoneabruptly and lay back down in bed. The pain in her calf seemed to be less hurting.

After hanging up, the corners of Shannon's mouth curled upward in to a satisfied smile. She quicklydeleted the call log from Brendon's phone before placing it on his desk. Then, she rubbed her redeyes gently before lying down softly.

"Didn't I tell you to sleep already? Why aren't you asleep yet?" Not long after, Brendon got out of thebathroom, his face wrinkled with displeasure.

"Brendon, I'm scared, I can't sleep," Shannon said, biting her lip as she reached for Brendon's hand.Brendon discreetly avoided her grasp and adjusted his slightly wrinkled white shirt.

"No need to be afraid. This is a hospital; no one will hurt you here."

"It was so terrifying. I was just standing there, and suddenly a car rushed at me... If it weren't forCindy pushing me out of the way in time, I might have... *sniffle*... I'm really scared! I'm afraid Iwon't see you again..."

Brendon felt a headache coming on.novelbin

"No one will hurt you here. It's late, and you need rest," Brendon said. But his thoughts wandered toRanita. He wondered if she had gone to bed and if she was still mad at him.
