"Eve, can we come in?" Shannon and Brendon entered together without waiting for an answer frominside the room.
Shannon maintained her gentle and fragile appearance, her voice sweet and soft. "I saw the newsabout your injury during filming, and I thought I'd come to check on you. How are you? Is yourhealth improving?"
"And it's such a coincidence that I didn't realize you knew Ranita, Eve," Shannon added. Eve wasalso in the entertainment industry, and they had crossed paths at some events, although theyweren't particularly close.
Eve, wearing her own mask of politeness, smiled but with an air of insincerity. "Miss Murphy, it's apleasure to meet you! I'm doing quite well, thank you for your concern." She paused and then castan indifferent glance at Brendon. "Who is this?"
In reality, Eve knew who Brendon was very well, but she was just unwilling to admit it.
"Eve, this is Brendon," Shannon replied, still with a touch of shyness in her eyes as she gazed atBrendon. Her eyes held a thousand unspoken words, hinting at the relationship between her andBrendon, both subtly and overtly.
Once again, Ranita's heart thudded painfully against her ribs, the pain leaving her breathless.
Ranita avoided eye contact but Eve tightly grasped her hand. She gave Ranita a cold look beforesaying, "So this is the famous Mr. Stuart? How coincidental that he shares the same name asRanita's husband."
Shannon bit her lip in distress while Brendon furrowed his brow in displeasure. Before he couldspeak up, Eve continued with a sly tone, "Miss Murphy, your companion here looks quite similar toRanita's husband. Is he someone else's spouse?"
"Eve," Shannon began to whine pitifully with watery eyes. "Did I offend you? I only came over tocheck on you."
"I didn't scold or hit you," Eve retorted in an actress-like voice that sounded eerily similar toShannon's own tone. "I merely asked two simple questions. Do you really need to be so dramatic?"
Eve made herself sick with how cruel she was being towards Shannon.
Sighing heavily, she added, "Even if your companion is someone else's husband, it doesn't concernme at all! Don't worry about it; I've seen enough of men and women playing around."
Eve was merciless with her words and left poor Shannon feeling utterly humiliated.
"I apologize, but I have a friend here with me now, and I can't entertain you. Please feel free to go,"Eve said in such a way that Shannon couldn't stay any longer.
Sniffling, Shannon looked pitiful and said, "Eve, I'm sorry for bothering you! And, Ranita, Iapologize."
Shannon's eyes were red-rimmed, and she bit her lip, then tugged at the man's arm. "I must be sofoolish, it seems like I've made someone angry again. Brendon, didn't you have something to say toRanita? I'll wait for you outside once you're done."
With a show of frustration, Shannon stormed out, leaving an awkward atmosphere behind.

A cold and mocking tone seeped into Ranita's voice as she replied, "Aren't you going to follow heroutside? If she happens to trip and fall or take a tumble down the stairs, I'd be the one to blame."
"You should go!" Ranita clearly had no interest in talking to him. Brendon furrowed his brow andsaid, "We'll talk later. I'll take Shannon back to rest for now."
As the people left, the hospital room fell into silence.
"Finally gone!" Eve rolled her eyes in annoyance and looked at Ranita with a hint of resentment."Ranita, you're really something else."
Ranita pursed her lips, thinking to herself: It's not that I'm anything special; it's just that my heartaches too much.
