Jacob was intimidated by Elaine’s loud growl, but he spruced himself up and said, “A straight foot hasno fear of a crooked shoe!”
Elaine glared at him and uttered, “Ah, I don’t want to talk to you anymore. Okay, I’m going out to playmahjong.”
She then stood up and stretched out her hand at Jacob saying, “Give me your car key!”
“What? Why would you need a car for your mahjong game? I want to use it later!”
Elaine rolled her eyes and said contemptuously, “Why? Do you want to show off to your friends? Noway! Give me the car key, quick!”
Jacob sighed dejectedly and passed her the car key as he said, “Drive carefully, don’t scratch it.”
“Argh, shut up! If you provoke me again, I’ll drive your car down the drain!”
Jacob was extremely agitated, but Elaine felt as though she had gotten her revenge. She put on herjacket, a triumphant smile on her face, and walked out the door.
After Elaine left, Jacob sighed again and said, “Charlie, go with me to the reunion later. Some of myfriends will bring some young people to help too.”
“Okay, Dad.” Charlie didn’t want to go but he had to.
Claire passed her car key to Jacob and said, “Dad, drive my car then. I’ll take the taxi to work.”
“Forget it.” Jacob waved his hand. “Your car is the lousiest model of the BMW 5 Series. My friends willlaugh at me if they see it.”
Claire shrugged and put the key back into her bag. She said to Charlie, “You guys have to take the taxithen.”
Charlie nodded and threw a sideways glance at Jacob thinking, ‘Damn it, the old man is too vain! Doyou, out of all people, find Claire’s 5 Series to be an embarrassment? Do you know that her car isactually the flagship 760?’
Meanwhile, while Elaine was downstairs and heading toward her car, she heard a familiar voice callingfor her.novelbin
“Hey, Elaine, wait!”
Elaine looked toward the direction of the voice only to realize that it was Hannah, Christopher’s wife.
She was a little surprised by her presence. She had had a great time humiliating her and her husbandthe other day at Summer’s villa, yet, she hadn’t expected that this woman would show up here.
She asked curiously, “Hannah, why are you here?”
The couple’s expression of resentment floated into Elaine’s mind, and it made her extremely thrilledand gleeful.
