Chapter 976

Chapter 976

Lillian rushed to Callum and said through a clogged nose, “I knew that you agreed to Madeline’srequest and broke up with me back then because you wanted to save me. Five years later, you onceagain protected me from Madeline. Moreover, at that time, you had a curse on your body. Because ofthe curse, you felt immense pain whenever you touched me. To rid yourself of the curse, you allowedMadeline into your mansion…”

However, Callum remained indifferent, his expression unchanged, as he listened. It appeared that herdistress, her tears, and her remorse held no significance for him.

“Is that so? So you are aware.” At last, her heartfelt confession received only a brief response fromhim. Lillian bit her lips. “Back then, I went to your mansion to find you. I wanted to say that we shouldgive it another try. But when I saw Madeline leaving your mansion, I thought you and her… Imisunderstood. I didn’t know it was due to curse.”

“Yes, you misunderstood,” Callum murmured. “You’re so quick to misunderstand me. It implies that youdon’t trust me at all, doesn’t it?”

Lillian choked.

Callum’s expression became even more scathing. “How can you claim you love me if it’s like this?”

After a pause, Callum continued. “So you knew that you had misunderstood me, yet you’ve come tosee me again? But, Lillian, you must understand that I won’t remain the same and love you as naivelyas I did before just because you’ve returned. My love for you had entirely vanished from the momentyou thought of terminating your pregnancy at the hospital.”

Lillian burst into tears. “I… I didn’t terminate the pregnancy. Callum. I didn’t… Our baby is still insideme… I’ve been eating well and resting, all for the sake of our baby… so our child can grow healthily…”She pulled his hand and put it on her abdomen as she spoke.

At four months into her pregnancy, her lower abdomen didn’t show a noticeable bulge. Only a slightswell could be felt when a hand was pressed against it.

Callum’s hand gently touched Lillian’s stomach, and moments ticked by. When her tears trickled downher cheeks and fell onto his wrist, he abruptly withdrew his hand as if it had been scorched.

“Enough, Lillian. So what if you didn’t terminate the pregnancy?” He suddenly stood up and said, “Fromthe very beginning, it was never the baby that I cared about.”

She was all he cared about!

At that time, he was utterly devastated when she wanted to terminate the pregnancy to sever all tieswith him. It was then that he realized she was willing to sacrifice a life just to break the connectionbetween them.

It was only at that moment that he realized that her words, which he had taken to heart, had beennothing more than a jest.novelbin

He recalled that at the time, she had said to him, “Callum, if we were to have a child, I would want tobring it into the world because it would be our child and my treasure.”

Yet it turned out that she was willing to abandon this treasure at any moment. The worst was she mightnot want it at all!

“I know you didn’t terminate the pregnancy, but so what? Now you came to me and suddenly said that

loved me. What is it that you hope for? Do you want me to be with you and provide the child with acomplete family? Am I just a father, necessary for the child, to you now?” Callum said.

“No, I… I want to be with you, but not just for the child!” Lillian interjected hastily. “It’s because I loveyou, and I don’t want to lose you like this. I…”

“Lillian, you and I have already missed our chance,” Callum said coldly as he withdrew his hand.

In an instant, Lillian felt her hand go empty, and the warmth from his touch on her abdomen wasabruptly gone.

“Did we truly miss the chance to be together?” she thought bitterly.

“Well, if this is all you want to say after repeatedly requesting to meet me, you needn’t come to mepersonally in the future. If there’s anything else, you can contact my secretary,” Callum stated.

“Contact your secretary?” Lillian was stunned momentarily.

“How much child support payment are you asking, or how much money do you want? You cancommunicate this to my secretary, and as long as the sum is reasonable, there won’t be any issues. Asfor the child in your belly, it’s your decision whether to bring it into the world or terminate thepregnancy.” Callum’s voice was void of emotions.

“I… I am not here for money…” Lillian murmured.

“Does it matter whether you are or not? In any case…”

Before Callum could finish his words, Lillian suddenly strode forward, wrapped her hands around hisneck, stood on tiptoe, and kissed him straightaway.

The sudden kiss caught Callum off guard, and he instantly tensed up. Subconsciously, he wanted topush her away, but when his hand made contact with her, it suddenly froze.

Now she was not her usual self, but a pregnant woman. Even a gentle push might potentially harm herand the baby in her womb.

Callum pursed his thin lips, and his body stiffened.

“Don’t be swayed by her!” Callum repeated to himself in his heart.

Lillian felt as though she was pouring all her longing and regret over these days into this kiss. The kisswas eager and passionate.

Yet his lips remained closed and didn’t part as if he were unwilling to forgive her and reciprocate heradvances.

She didn’t want to lose him like this.

The tears in Lillian’s eyes gushed out again, and her heart kept sinking. She thought he would still havesome feelings for her. She thought she had hope, but now…

“Have we really missed our chances forever as he said?” she thought.

At that instant, her tears trickled down her cheek and nose before landing on their lips.
