Chapter 866

Chapter 866

Lillian lifted her head, her gaze fixed upon the man who had shielded her. Now, he was the one whoshould be hurting. He had become a human cushion for her. “I… I’m fine,” she hurriedly said, noticinghis unusually pale complexion and the beads of sweat forming on his forehead, his brows furrowed inpain.

Lillian quickly stood up and said, “How about you?”

Callum gasped. “I’m fine.”

Lillian reached out, attempting to help Callum up, but he glanced at her hand and then met her eyes. “Ifyou don’t have feelings for me, don’t touch me.”

“I… I just wanted to help you up.”

“It’s unnecessary,” he replied, steadying himself and standing on his own.

“Lillian, are you alright?” Jerick rushed over anxiously.

“I’m okay, didn’t get hurt much,” Lillian replied while thinking, “But… What about Callum? Is he okay?We fell together just now, and I landed on top of him… Is he really unh

now.”

Callum raised an eyebrow, his tone mocking. “Thank me?”

“Yes, I’m thanking you. Is there a problem?” Jerick met Callum’s gaze confidently.

Callum’s eyes darkened, his face clouded with a layer of gloom. Jerick stared back, unflinching.

In the end, Callum was the one to look away first. His gaze shifted to Rebecca, who was still standingfrozen at the escalator exit.

His icy stare jolted Rebecca back to reality, and she hurriedly stammered, “I… I didn’t mean it; I didn’tmean to…” With that, she fled, not looking back.

“That Rebecca, claiming it wasn’t intentional, how outrageous!” Lillian fumed. However, right now, shecouldn’t catch up to Rebecca anymore.

“The mall has surveillance cameras. We can report to the police and have them check the footage. Shewon’t get away with this,” Jerick said.

Hearing that, Lillian nodded in agreement.

Callum turned without a word, intending to leave,

then?”

Lillian was taken aback, but Callum left without another word.

“Mr. White must love you. Otherwise, he wouldn’t have saved you like that.” Jerick’s voice echoedsoftly. Lillian bit her lip, feeling a mixture of emotions. “Does he love me? Perhaps he does! Maybe, ashe has said before, he has never loved Madeline. His love had always been for me,” she thought.

Nevertheless, she didn’t have the courage to love him anymore. In five years, she had shed theaudacity and unwavering determination of her youth. She cared about many things now and didn’t wanther aging parents to worry about her. She just wanted a peaceful life.

At that moment, mall security guards rushed over, asking Lillian and Jerick, “Were you the ones pusheddown the escalator? Are you injured?”

“No.” Lillian shook her head.

Just then, one of the guards asked, “What happened? Is someone bleeding? Is anyone else injuredbesides you two?”

“Bleeding?” Lillian thought, taken aback. Following the guard’s gaze, she noticed a trail of crimson onthe escalator steps, barely visible against the dark gray color. As the steps were dark gray, thebloodstain wasn’t very conspicuous, and Lillian hadn’t noticed it before.

“This blood… It was Callum’s!” she thought.

It was where Callum had fallen.

Lillian felt like something heavy was pressing on her chest, making it hard to breathe. He was hurt, buthe didn’t say anything.

If only she had been more observant, or if he hadn’t been wearing dark clothes, maybe she would havenoticed.

Back at home, Lillian couldn’t sleep. Every time she closed her eyes, she saw the image of Callum andher falling on the escalator together.

“Why hadn’t he mentioned his injury? Does he not want any ties with me anymore?” she thought. “Thenwhy did he save me? Why did he happen to be there?”

For a moment, various doubts flooded her mind.

She had thought they were done, but he suddenly claimed that he had always loved her.

When she thought she had made it clear that they couldn’t be together, he saved her in that way.

I felt like they were tangled up in a never–ending loop, something she couldn’t

got up and walked to her bedroom window, opening it to get some fresh air. However, when she did,she froze. From her window, she could see a figure leaning against a car, looking up at her.

It was Callum.

Lillian stared blankly, watching his silhouette bathed in the moonlight. The moon made him appearethereal.

She even had an illusion that he was from her imagination and not really here.

Their eyes met in the middle of the night, and the moment stretched, lingering in the air like anunspoken promise.

After a while, Callum turned around, opened the door, and tried to leave. Without hesitating, Lillianblurted out, “Don’t go!”

That shout, in the silent night, sounded unusually clear.

Callum’s body stiffened for a moment, but the next moment, he still opened the car door and got in.novelbin

Lillian turned around and rushed out of the bedroom, out of the house, and ran downstairs in swiftsteps.

Even she couldn’t explain why she chased after him. He clearly had no intention. of staying, andrunning out like that, she would never catch up.

Yet, at that moment, the impulse completely overwhelmed her rationality.

By the time she sprinted to the spot where his car was parked, there was no car anymore, only anempty space.

So, he left.

Lillian sighed, feeling a little disappointed in her heart. She turned to go back, but suddenly, a coldvoice came from behind, “What’s the matter, are you looking for me?”
