Chapter 840

Chapter 840

In an instant, Lillian’s colleagues flocked over to her. There was even a hint of unctuousness in theirvoices.

Some of them began asking Lillian tentatively about the nature of her relationship with Callum.

“Does Callum want to get back together with you, Lillian?”

“He took you away from the horde of reporters that day. He was so handsome that he looked like theprince who rescues the princess in a fairy tale!”

“Will you become Mrs. White, Lillian?”

Naturally, Lillian knew that Callum was the reason for the abrupt change in her coworkers’ attitudestoward her.

Wryly, she pondered about how society was so materialistic. As he had experienced a lot over the pastfive years, it did not bother her very much.

“There is nothing going on between me and Mr. White now, so please don’t speculate any further. Ihave somebody in my life now, and it will cause trouble for me if you go on proclaiming that,” Lilliansaid coldly.

Her colleagues looked at each other with embarrassment at her words and dispersed soon after.

At last, Lillian regained some peace.

Callum was nowhere to be seen when she arrived

me the day before. “Mr. White said that this matter should be laid to rest,” his men had

informed her. “Don’t worry, Ms. Quinn. Your life will return to normal as before.”

“As before…” she wondered to herself. “Does that mean he won’t be showing up anymore?”

Lillian felt her nose twinging at that thought, and her eyes suddenly felt moist and warm. “This is whatI’ve been waiting eagerly for,” she told herself. “What’s there to be upset about?”

It was the best ending for her and Callum to be separated like this; there was no hatred or resentment, and they would remember each other fondly.novelbin

Surely, it was better than getting back together, and then resenting each

other if things went wrong again.

Though Callum had told her that she was the one he still loved, she had no courage to be with himagain.

She was 33 years old, and no longer 28.

Perhaps the older she was, the more timid she became.

Rosalie heaved a sigh of relief after learning that Lillian had returned home and that her life hadregained its calm.

Relieved that Lillian’s life was slowly returning to normal, she announced, “We will ask Amelia out thenext time I am free, and the three of us will have a good catch-up. We haven’t had a decent outingsince I returned to Strico.”

“Okay! It’s about time the three of us hung out again,” Lillian replied before sighing. “Time flies. It’sbeen almost five years.”

“Indeed. Time does pass quickly,” Rosalie concurred.

Many things had changed over the past five years, but some would never change.

After ending the call with Lillian, Rosalie had the driver take her to an office building on the west side ofthe city. Intending to start a law firm, she had begun looking at venues.

When she was about to enter the office building, something fell from above without warning.

“Danger!” exclaimed a voice behind her, and Rosalie felt herself shoved aside with great force, causingher to fall to the ground. At the same time, she felt a pair of hands wrapped protectively around her.

Then, the urgent clatter of footsteps drew nearer. “Mrs. Youngblood!” the bodyguards and the driverexclaimed.

With a start, Rosalie stood up with the help of the bodyguards. “I’m fine.” Then, she looked at the mangetting to his feet and dusting his body with his head bowed.

It was the fellow who saved her moments ago.

“Are you all right, sir? Thank you…”

The man raised his head, and she became stunned.

“Zachary!” she realized inwardly.

Back then, he was a prominent young gentleman in Strico, her ex-boyfriend at that time, and also thefiancée of Yvette Hamilton.

Zachary was different now.

He was clad in shabby clothes and dirty sneakers. His once handsome face had aged. Even the hairsby his temples were flecked with white.

She recalled that Zachary would be in his mid-thirties, but he looked a decade older.

He was no longer the young man in his typical suit and leather shoes, the bright young heir of theXanthos family. Now, he looked like a

blue-collar worker who was tired of life.

After Zachary ascertained that it was Rosalie standing before him, a trace of surprise flashed acrosshis face. Then, he smiled bitterly. “It’s you. I learned from the news that you’d returned to Strico, but Ididn’t expect to see you under such circumstances.”

“You…” Rosalie gazed at him, not knowing what to say for a moment. Zachary had hurt her so muchthat she had considered killing herself at one point out of desperation. Worst still, she had lost thecourage to love again.

If it were not for Jonathan, she shuddered to imagine how miserable she -would have ended up being.

Despite all of that, it had been Zachary who rescued her.

“I’ll have somebody accompany you to the hospital for a checkup, and I’ll bear all the expenses.” Aftera while, Rosalie went on, “You saved my life, after all. Thank you. Let me know if there’s anything youneed.”

Her words caused an embarrassed flush to tinge Zachary’s cheeks. “I don’t expect anything in returnfor saving you earlier. I’m not hurt. I don’t need to go to the hospital.”

“Really?” Rosalie stared at Zachary. “Well then, thank you!” After

expressing her gratitude once more, she glanced at the flowerpot and scattered soil that had fallen tothe ground. Turning around, she addressed the bodyguards beside her, “Find out how this flowerpot felllater.”

“Yes, Madam,” the bodyguards replied.

Several security guards of the building came running over when they heard the commotion. “What areyou doing here again?” they said in disgust when they saw Zachary. “Didn’t we tell you that we alreadyhave a special delivery team? Don’t try and poach our business. Scram!” One of the bodyguardsroughly dragged Zachary away from the

entrance.

Zachary grimaced in pain. He clutched his right wrist with his left hand.

“Still pretending, are you?” The guard thought Zachary was putting on an

act.

“Let him go!” Rosalie ordered the security guard. “A flowerpot fell from your building earlier, and it wasthis gentleman who saved me. Otherwise, you wouldn’t be yelling at him now!”
