Chapter 413

Chapter 413

“You’re not even my…” She subconsciously wanted to deny it. However, halfway through expressingherself, she suddenly found herself at a loss for words, unable to utter a single syllable.

He stared at her with his dark eyes, which seemed to hold a mix of self-mockery and gloom.

Lillian felt a tightness in her chest. His gaze left her breathless as if she owed him something.

The car fell into silence.

“Why don’t you finish your sentence?” he asked suddenly.

“I… I didn’t plan to say anything,” she said guiltily.

“Please don’t feel guilty! Deep down, we both know we are not a real couple!” she whispered deep inher heart.

However, some of his words caused her to misunderstand, leading her to mistakenly believe that hehad been interested in her all along!

Nevertheless, it seemed utterly impossible!

“What kind of woman hadn’t he encountered before? Does he genuinely like me? Is it possible that heis intentionally acting this way to win my heart effortlessly? And once I fall in love with him, he mightabandon me like I did when I left without saying goodbye!” Lilian mused.

“Where do you want to eat today?” He changed the subject.

“I’m looking for a restaurant near a shopping mall so that after our meal, I can go shopping for newclothes for Rosalie., She just got a new job today, but her current wardrobe is outdated and

inappropriate for formal occasions,” Lillian replied.

Rosalie did not bring out any of the clothes Jonathan bought for her in the past. The clothes/shecurrently wore were the same ones she had before she was imprisoned. Even though some clotheswere of good quality, the styles were old-fashioned, and the colors had faded.

Callum started the car and commented, “You treat Rosalie with such attentiveness, and I admire that. Isometimes wonder when you will treat my

affairs with the same dedication.”

With a violent cough, she awkwardly declared, “Ahem… I have always deeply cared about your affairs.”

“Is that so?” He subtly peered at her from the corner of his eye.

If this woman truly cared about his affairs, he would not feel so devastated right now! Despite his clearhints about his feelings, this woman appeared to be completely oblivious.

She was so foolish that he did not know how to handle her!

The following day, Rosalie went to work at the law firm in her old business suit.

Despite her clothes being slightly old and the collar of her white shirt showing a hint of yellow, it was atleast still wearable Besides, she could not afford to buy any new clothes.

Lawrence Guzman was a middle-aged man in his forties. Rosalie was well aware that his success ratein lawsuits was not particularly high, and his reputation in the industry was rather average. However, since he had been part of this circle for over ten years, there was undoubtedly something she couldlearn from him.

After briefly explaining the work arrangement, Lawrence looked at Rosalie and asked, “I have alsostudied your case back then. Did you have help in reversing the verdict so fast?”

“Yes,” Rosalie answered.

Regardless of whether it was just a game between her and Jonathan, it was undeniable that she wouldnot have been able to overturn the verdict so swiftly without his help.

“Who is it?” Lawrence asked with curiosity.

“An outsider… We used to be friends, but we have lost touch now.” Rosalie smiled bitterly.

Lawrence remarked with deep thought, “You should thank your friend properly. Without this person, youmay not be able to work as a lawyer now.”

After Rosalie came out of Lawrence’s office, she was relieved. She was genuinely afraid her new bosswould ask who helped her reverse the verdict.

Rosalie returned to her desk and began to familiarize herself with the task she had to accomplish.

After joining the industry, she began her journey as an assistant for six months. Having gone throughthese roles again, she effortlessly adapted to them. Although the work was a little trivial, it was notdifficult.

Elodia went to her desk to greet Rosalie and discreetly inquired about Jonathan, but Rosalie avoidedall these questions calmly.

When Rosalie finished work and was about to leave, she overheard Elodia saying, “Guys, Rosalie isnew here today. How about organizing a welcome dinner for our new colleague?”

Someone quickly responded, “All right! Let’s celebrate the joining of our new colleague!”

“It’s rare to have a woman in our company. Let’s make sure to give her a warm welcome!”

“Let’s go together!”

Rosalie felt embarrassed to say no when she saw this. As a newcomer, she was eager to build strongrelationships with her colleagues. If she did not join the group on the first day of work, it would be hardfor her to fit in.

Furthermore, networking was crucial for professionals like lawyers.

Therefore, although Elodia’s proposal was clearly ill-intentioned, Rosalie had no choice but to agreenow.

At once, she pondered over Elodia’s intentions. “She can’t possibly be so kind as to throw a celebratoryparty in my honor.”

The “welcome dinner” was attended only by lawyers with less experience in the firm and staff memberswho held the same assistant position as Rosalie, given that she was merely an assistant.

But there were still over a dozen of them in total.novelbin

Rosalie only realized she had arrived at Night Sky upon reaching her destination.

Night Sky was known as a prestigious establishment in Strico, catering primarily to the affluentclientele. Although lawyers generally made a decent income, only the firm’s bosses and top attorneyscould afford to spend here.

However, under Elodia’s encouragement, everyone went straight to a private room and started orderingvarious dishes from the menu.

Rosalie’s eyes narrowed slightly, a tingling sense of anxiety pulsating in her heart.

Upon the arrival of the dishes, Rosalie swiftly estimated that the total expense for the entire table’sorder would easily surpass a few thousand dollars.

She was concerned that even if everyone split the bill, each might have to pay between 1200 and 1400dollars.

Although her colleagues might have found this amount of money acceptable, it was extremelyoverwhelming for her.

“So this is what Elodia was planning?” pondered Rosalie.

However, at this very instant, the dishes had already been delicately placed on the table, rendering anypotential words or actions from her utterly futile.

Despite having 1200 to 1400 dollars on hand, she felt the need to tighten her belt and save money afterpaying for the meal.
