Chapter 1042

He was about to speak when Amelia’s phone suddenly rang.

Amelia picked up her phone, and Warren caught a glimpse of the caller ID displaying the name Lucas.

“Lucas, what’s up?” Amelia asked.

“Amelia, could you please keep an eye out for me and see if Nadine is at your place? If you happen tospot her, give me a call right away.” Lucas’ voice sounded anxious.novelbin

Amelia was stunned. “What’s wrong? Is Nadine missing?”

“Yeah, I brought her to the store today, but it got busy, and she disappeared in the blink of an eye. Ichecked the surveillance on my end, but all I saw was her riding her kid’s bike onto the street. Then, she went out of the camera’s range. I’ve already reported it to the police,” Lucas -explained, “Earlier,Nadine mentioned that she wanted to play with Aiden again. Just in case she comes to your place, youcould keep an eye out.”

Even Lucas himself felt that the likelihood of this happening was extremely slim. After all, Nadine wasjust a three-year-old child. Although he had taken her to the concession stand with him, a child thatyoung wouldn’t remember the way.

“Alright, I’ll keep an eye out. I’ll also search around my area. If you happen to find Nadine, tell me.”

“Okay,” Lucas answered.

Amelia called out to Matilda in the back room, and Matilda came out to help look after the store.

Matilda came out and was stunned to see Warren. She asked her daughter, “Why is he here?”

“He’s just here to discuss Aiden’s matter with me. Don’t worry about it.” Amelia then told Matilda aboutNadine’s disappearance.

After hearing this, Matilda immediately said, “You should go and search for her right away! I can handlethe store; you go look around the neighborhood.”

As Amelia was leaving the concession stand, Warren suggested, “Hop in my car. I can drive youaround the area. It’ll be faster.”

Amelia hesitated for a moment but eventually got into Warren’s car. After all, finding Nadine was the toppriority.

Warren started the car and drove slowly along the nearby streets while Amelia scanned the sides of theroad, hoping to catch a glimpse of Nadine.

“Do you care a lot about this child?” Warren asked with some curiosity.

The rare hint of concern on her face seemed to show how much she valued the child.

“I like Nadine very much,” Amelia replied.

Warren came dangerously close to asking whether she was genuinely fond of the child or if it wasbecause the child’s father was Lucas!

They had already crossed three streets without a sign of Nadine. Amelia didn’t receive any news fromLucas either. She couldn’t help but grow increasingly worried.

Three-year-old kids were the most likely to be abducted. Although security was good on Strico, shewas still afraid that something bad might happen.

Just as Amelia was about to call Rosalie for help, Warren suddenly said, “You’d rather ask Rosalie forhelp than let me help you?”

Confused, Amelia turned to look at Warren. She saw him steering the car to the side of the road. Hethen took out his phone and dialed a number.

“I’m Warren. Find someone for me. Her name is Nadine Graham, and she’s a three-year-old girl…”Warren spoke to the person on the other end of the phone. He even mentioned the name of the marketwhere Nadine had gone missing.

After Warren finished the call, Amelia looked at him in astonishment. “How… How did you know thatNadine is three years old and the name of that market? I never told you these details!”

Warren gazed steadily at her. “I know much more than you think.”

“Have you investigated Lucas and me?” Amelia could only think of one explanation.

Warren shrugged without denying it.

Amelia wore a look of unease. “Why did you investigate Lucas? You’re not allowed to touch him!”

Warren sneered. He then unfastened his seat belt and leaned closer towards Amelia.

In that instant, Amelia went stiff. She felt as though she were enveloped in his presence.

“What… What are you trying to do?” she asked uncomfortably. She pressed her hands against hischest to create some distance between them.

Warren stared at the person in front of him. Time flew by. When they first met, she was so innocent andcarefree. Her once pure and clear eyes had become burdened with so much heaviness. However, hislove for her seemed to grow stronger with time.

That love was now infused with a profound sense of regret, etched into his very bones. It made thismoment of closeness with her even more precious.

“You’re telling me not to touch Lucas? Is that an order? Are you commanding me not to get near aman?” Warren said.

His deep voice was laced with a hint of danger.

Amelia bit her lips. She was afraid that saying the wrong thing might truly anger Warren, leading toconsequences for Lucas.

Taking a deep breath, she replied, “Lucas is a friend who helped me during a difficult time, and this hasnothing to do with anything else. I don’t want you to involve him in our issues.”

His eyes flashed slightly, “Are you talking for him? “You know, you rarely speak for someone who caresabout you. It seems that his friend is very important in your heart.”

“He is a good person. In this society, good people often end up suffering. I don’t want a good person tosuffer because of me. I couldn’t bear the guilt,” she explained.

For some reason, her words seemed to pierce Warren’s heart once again.

Just then, Warren’s phone rang. It was the person he had asked to help locate Nadine. The personinformed him that Nadine had been found.

She had been discovered by a passerby on the way and was taken to the police station_ng

“Alright, thank you. I owe you a favor,” Warren said.

The person on the other end chuckled. “Haha, it’s not easy for Mr. York to owe me a favor. Who is thislittle girl worth me finding her for you?”

“Just a girl with no real connection to me,” Warren replied. He ended the call and then turned to Amelia.“Nadine has been found and is at the police station.”

“At the police station?” Amelia couldn’t believe that they had found her so soon.
