Chapter 50: Great Detective

Peter's POV:

I asked the guards to let us interrogate a few more male wolves. All of them, it turned out, had norecollection about their actions in the past few hours.

"Serena, can you verify the truth for us with your mind reading power?" I turned to Serena.

Serena stepped forward a little and stared at the wolves we were interrogating.

Now that their minds were clearer now, she could hear their thoughts better.

"They're all telling the truth, Peter,"

Serena spoke in a low voice and turned to me.

So it was true.

None of these wolves had any idea of what just happened.

I asked the guards to take them back to their cells.

Some sort of punishment was still the right thing to do, since they endangered the pack.

We all headed back to the gym to investigate further.

Except for the spilled cola on the floor, there was nothing that looked too suspicious.

"David, get a sample of that cola and send it to Dr.Edwin for examination." I nodded at David.

A few hours later, blood tests of the involved male wolves had come out.

"Alpha, from the lab results, it turns out that the blood of these werewolves shows very highconcentration of the drug Viagra."

Doctor Edwin glanced at his clipboard.

"What did you just say? Viagra?"

An elder werewolf perked his head up all of a sudden. His reaction gained him strange looks from all ofus.

"Well...not that I've ever used it.I had just heard of it before..."

The elder stammered to make up an excuse, it seemed.

"Yes, Viagra. We have also received results from the cola sample.Based on our research, it seems tome that there is a kind of knockout drops in it, which is usually used by wizards and witches.Thatmedicine consists of herbal ingredients such as Sneezeweed, Danish scurvy grass, and Angelicapubescens, all of which are commonly used to make aphrodisiacs.Ingesting this kind of concoction willindeed lead one to impetuousness, recklessness, and irrationality,"

Doctor Edwin explained to us.

"Hmm...wizards again." Steve stroked his chin thoughtfully.

"So, someone is plotting against our pack." My father gritted his teeth.

"Yes, all the substances in the male wolves’ blood match what is in the cola," Doctor Edwin confirmed.

"If Luna and her friends weren't there today, those wolves would have still attacked other victimsnearby from ingesting that medicine. Those male wolves could have hurt other defenseless andunderage she- wolves. The consequences would have been unimaginable."

My father wrung his hands in deep concern.

"We have met so many problems after the Luna Ceremony," Steve said somberly.

"Where did these cans of cola come from, anyway?" I asked.

It seemed that solving this would be more difficult than I expected.

"Clearly, the gym staff did not procure these themselves.Judging from the codes on the cans, it seemsthat these are normal ones purchased from shops," David replied.

"But how could they contain that concoction if they came from a shop?"

Silence fell on us no one had an answer to this question.

Each one picked up a can of cola and carefully observed it.

Judging from the packaging, it looked totally normal to me.

"Perhaps the medicine was injected with the use of a very tiny needle." Serena passed me the one shewas holding.

I tried to look for a hole everywhere, but my eyes caught nothing.

Serena instructed me to point the can up to the light in the room.

Sure enough, I was able to spot the most minuscule hole by the ring-pull.

My Luna's observation skill was top notch.

Her senses were much more sophisticated than that of ordinary werewolves.

Everyone else did the same as I did.Gasps erupted in the room as they found holes in each of thecans.

"Oh, what a despicable and deceitful method! Who would be able to do such a thing?"

"Peter, do you smell anything else on this?"

Serena asked me again.

I held the can close to my nose and it was filled with the scent of sweat. But suddenly, a pungent smellalso came forward from the can.

Anita picked one up and had a go, as well.novelbin

"Wait...That's the smell of nail polish!"

Anita successfully recognized the scent.

"How strange. Why would the cola be anywhere near nail polish?"

"Maybe it was difficult to inject the needle into the can.I imagine that while the perpetrator wasstruggling to insert the needle, her nails must have rubbed on the cans."

"So, nail polish...It was a woman?"

Serena and I looked at each other knowingly.

I knew we both thought of the same person right away.

Other than Kate, there was no one else in this pack who would have done something like that.

"David, find Kate and bring her here." David left, but not long after, he came back empty- handed.

"Alpha, Kate's gone! We've checked the CCTV footage. She left just a few hours ago and was headedto the airport. She probably knew that she was going to get found out and fled!"

"Fine. Then we'll settle this when she gets back. That is, if she dares to show her face to us again."

I asked the guards to keep the men in captivity for a while and ordered Dr.Edwin to administerneutralizing medicine for them.

This matter was settled for now.Tessa and Serena came so closer to disaster today.

Accompanying Serena back to our room, I noticed that she looked a little down.

Serena's POV:

I hadn't expected that so many bad things would happen after I arrived at Red Maple. It seemed thatwherever I set foot, I brought upon disasters to those around me.

Was I...the bane of this pack? When Peter asked me to read the minds of the men, I could sense theirfear of me, as if I was some monster.

Perhaps I shouldn't have come here at all.

Should I leave for the sake of protecting this pack? "Serena? What's going on in your head, honey?"

"Oh, nothing.Maybe just a little tired. But Peter...Has the Red Maple Pack always been peaceful up untilI arrived?"

"Oh, honey. You should just get some sleep. It’s not good for you to think like this.Of course, the packhas witnessed some incidents before you came.Everything that’s happening now has nothing to withyou."

Peter placed his arm around my shoulder to provide some comfort.

"I just feel like if I keep using my powers, I will just keep bringing disaster and destruction onto thispack. That's not what a Luna is supposed to do."

"Serena, it was the Moon Goddess who paired us together, remember? She knows what's best, sodon't overthink your position here."

"How could Kate do this? She seems like a simple woman. She couldn't have possibly handled all thesethings herself."

"Yes, I agree.I know Kate. She's not exactly the brightest. She must have someone helping her.I'vealready tasked Alvin to further investigate this matter. As for the dark magic, I will investigate it myselfand see what kind of person did this."

"Are you going to investigate alone?"

I didn't expect that Peter would leave me alone so soon.

"Yes, the detective has found some helpful clues.I'm taking Alvin with me, though. It's all been arrangedfor.”

"I want to go with you, Peter. Please, don't leave me alone here."

I wrapped my arms around Peter's waist.

We had never been separated ever since we arrived at the Red Maple Pack.

"Listen, my love. You are the pack’s Luna now. When I'm gone, it is your duty to take over until I getback. One of us needs to stay with the pack and protect it."

Hearing Peter's words felt like the whole weight of the world had fallen on my shoulders.
