Chapter 2694

Chapter 2694

James and Walganus continued to venture deep into the abandoned and desolate city. The city washuge, and although its buildings had collapsed, it was evident that it had once been a prosperous city along time ago. The city was now eerily silent, and no sound could be heard.

Clack! Clack! Clack!

As they walked the streets, their footsteps broke the silence of the desolate city.

“Hee hee hee…”

At that moment, a peal of gloomy laughter echoed throughout the city. The two looked around at thesame time, trying to locate the source of the sound. However, the sound seemed to be coming from alldirections. The laughter was eerie and sinister, resembling a baby’s laughter and an elderly person’slow chuckle at the same time.

‘This is creepy alright.” Furrowing his eyebrows, Walganus reminded James, “Be on your guard. I havea feeling that this city’s inhabited.”

James sensed his surroundings. However, there were no signs of life at all.

“I agree.” James nodded.

Then, he scanned his surroundings and yelled, “Who’s there? Show yourself!”

His voice came in a terrifying sound wave that shredded through the air, reverberating throughout thequiet city.

At that moment, the sinister laugh disappeared.

‘Who’s there?”

At that moment, a shadow flashed before Walganus’ eyes. However, before he could discern theshadow’s appearance, it vanished without a trace. He chased after the shadow but found no trace of it.

Though James did not see anything, he followed Walganus upon seeing him chasing after something.

Walganus stopped upon arriving at a dead end.

James walked over to him and asked, ‘What’s wrong? Did you find something?”

Furrowing his eyebrows, Walganus said, “I spotted a shadow, but it disappeared without a trace.”

“Is that so?” James was puzzled.

How did he not notice the shadow?

“My eyes would never deceive me. I can say with absolute certainty that we aren’t alone in this city.”

Walganus scanned his surroundings in an attempt to locate the living being hidden in the shadows. However, there was nothing in his surroundings.

“Let’s search this place,” James said.

“Mhm.” Walganus nodded.

The two left the dead end and headed toward the city center, searching every nook and cranny of thatplace. Before long, they arrived at the city center where there was a City Lord’s Mansion. The mansionwas relatively intact, and at its entrance stood two strange beast statues. On the plaque above thedoor, several ancient characters were engraved-Soul Mansion.

Looking at the words on the plaque above the door, Walganus smiled faintly and said, novelbin

‘Trying to scare us? Let’s look around inside.”

Saying that, he walked toward the door and opened it.

Creak…

A sound came from the door as accumulated dust fell to the ground. The two entered the City Lord’sMansion.
