Chapter 680

Juliana clenched her fists tightly.

Can I really fight my way out of this?

No... I need to become stronger and break out of this prison. That way, I can take Huntley with me andleave this vile place once and for all.

“Fine. I'll be good and recuperate. You must also give me your word to get your injuries checked outand undergo treatment. Once I've met Master, I'll beg her to save you,” Juliana said before slowlyleaning into Huntley's ear. “If you recover fully, I promise to stay with you forever. Even though I don'tlove you now, there's no telling what will happen in years to come. For all you know, my feelings for youmight change.”

Huntley chuckled. “Okay.”

Deep down, however, he remained unmoved and refused to hold out any hope of Juliana falling forhim.

Well, it's only proper that I support her in her pursuits, especially now that she's intent on leaving theHoffman family... It's time for her to take control of her own happiness.

Meanwhile, in a ward at the medical base, Bailey was gradually regaining consciousness.

Time seemed to stand still the second she opened her eyes, but it wasn't long before the pain in herlimbs snapped her out of her daze.

As if that wasn't bad enough, Bailey also realized she couldn't lift her arms when she attempted to propherself up on her elbows.

Oh, dear... Has my body gotten that weak?

It took a great deal of effort before she finally put her right hand onto her left wrist, and by then, it wasclear from her vital signs that her body had been pushed to its limit.

Ah, well... I expected this. Instead of resting since my miscarriage, I've been exerting myself andworking around the clock. To make matters worse, I even stood in the snow for over an hour, all coldand drenched. Is it any surprise that my vitality's severely affected? Besides, the adrenaline shot mighthave kept me alive, but it also caused further damage to my already ravaged body... From now on,there's no doubt I'll become more susceptible to getting sick and be ridden with several long-termeffects.

Upon turning toward the window, Bailey saw a tall, slender person on the other side of the glass.

It was the man she had always longed for, and the more she stared, the more she lost herself in him.

In the past, she had heard many stories of how women would fall in love with Artemis and even throwthemselves at his feet.

That, of course, only made her sneer in disgust. After all, why would any woman be so dumb as to gocrazy over a man? Was that worthwhile?

However, now that Bailey finally experienced Artemis' tenderness, she realized she had fallen head

over heels in love with him.

If Artemis Luther had never existed, my life would be incredibly dull and dark. In fact, I can't evenimagine living without him...

“Artemis...” Bailey uttered, her voice soft and sweet.

Even though one couldn't hear anything from outside the ward, Artemis couldn't shake the feeling thatBailey was calling out to him and instinctively reached for the door handle.

For some reason, however, he suddenly stopped in his tracks.

I-I don't know how to face Bailey...

She was such a happy and free-spirited woman, yet she was robbed of her peaceful life ever since shefell in love with me. Not only did she have to endure the suffering that fate threw at her, but she wasturned into a delicate and fragile beauty. Oh, Bailey... She's one of the most amazingly talented women, but life just had to play a joke on her and deal her a bad hand. How can I bring myself to face you inyour fragile state?

Upon seeing Artemis' hesitation and reluctance to step into the ward, Bailey curled her lips into a bittersmile.

He still can't let go of his guilt, huh? Even though he didn't personally hurt me, he still finds it hard toface me... Oh, what a silly man. He's probably blaming himself for everything.

The next second, Bailey's gaze fell on the phone beside her bed.

She grabbed it with much effort and slowly keyed in the number that she knew only too well.

After a couple of rings, she saw Artemis taking out his phone and accepting the call.

“I used to be very assertive and wanted to be the best at everything I did. Therefore, the past few yearshave been akin to living in hell,” Bailey said, her voice now low and hoarse. “Artemis, the truth is I'venever had a strong personality. I was a pitiful kid and was constantly bullied by my stepmother andstepsister. I suppose what they say about a mother's strength is true. Once I became a mother, I knew Ineeded to protect my children, so I forced myself to get stronger. Because of that, everyone saw me asa confident and authoritative woman. It wasn't until I met you that I realized women could also showtheir weaknesses and rely on others. Do you know what's interesting? Rather than being my usualdomineering self, I prefer leaning into you and seeking comfort in your embrace. That's because you'rethe only one who gives me a sense of security... You're the only one I can fully trust and depend on.”

Artemis trembled as he listened intently. After a brief silence, he finally spoke up. “But I still failed youeventually, and your life was never the same again. Not only did you suffer a miscarriage, but you'vealso destroyed your health. All these happened because you chose to be with me. I've failed to giveyou a happy life... Sometimes, I wonder if it's a mistake to let you stay with me.”

Bailey tightened her grip on the phone, her eyes brimming with tears.

“What do you mean by that, Artemis? Are you dumping me? I'd die without you.”

Artemis turned around abruptly as tears began streaming down his cheeks.

“I just can't get over the guilt eating me up. You've become a shadow of your former self...”

With that, Artemis ended the call and strode down the corridor.

A while later, the kids showed up at the ward.

Bailey couldn't help but smile wryly.

Ha! He left and sent the kids over, huh? He clearly worries about me, so why does he have to makethings so difficult?

“Mommy, are you feeling better?” Susan asked as she crawled under the covers and snuggled up toher mother.

Bailey leaned in and kissed the little girl's forehead. “I'm all right, but your father seems pretty unhappy. What should we do? How can I help him?”

As Susan blinked, a glint of mischief flashed across her eyes. “Men are all arrogant creatures. I'm sureyou can provoke him by making him jealous,” she whispered.

Bailey arched her brows and broke into a smile.

“You sure are my most precious darling! Very well, then. I'm sure he wouldn't torment himself to death,so he can continue putting on that air of arrogance. Besides, you kids are the source of my happiness.”

Zayron, however, sneered at his sister. “I'll tell Artemis about your plan to trick him and how youinstigated Mommy to get close to other men.”

Without further ado, Bailey grabbed her phone and threw it at him. “Get lost.”

Before Zayron could say anything, Zeke barged into the ward with Waverly and Steven in tow. “Oh?What are you guys chatting about so happily? Can I join in?” novelbin

As soon as Bailey saw them, her smile disappeared.
