Chapter 676

“Dad, Mom, this matter's already exposed. There's no point in her continuing to hide it and pretendingto not know anything.”

I might as well acknowledge my biological mother openly. It's not a big deal, anyway. I doubt they'll kickme out of the Shurmer family just because of this. If they did, they'll have a hard time explaining it tothe public. The public would think they abandoned a daughter who's been by their side for over twentyyears just so they can be acquainted with the future matriarch of the Luther family. They'd certainly becriticized for being bootlickers.

Waverly lowered her head but did not say anything.

After all, Zoey was the daughter Waverly had raised and even educated on her own.

Waverly always thought Zoey was a good girl who simply caused some minor troubles because shefancied Artemis.

Hence, the moment she saw the contents of the anonymous email, she was stunned. In fact, she wasstill in disbelief.

Waverly never expected the daughter she raised to be so vicious and be the sort of person who woulddo anything to get what she wanted.

Steven, too, narrowed his eyes at Zoey. His gaze was filled with disappointment.

Zoey and Bailey are just worlds apart. No, Zoey's not even worthy of being compared to Bailey.

As it turned out, the precious daughter the Shurmer family spent years raising was not as great as theirabandoned daughter who grew up in another household.

At that moment, he was disappointed in Zoey, but even more than that, he felt guilty toward Bailey.

Back then, Steven and Waverly refused to let Bailey return to the Shurmer family in case it hurt Zoey'sfeelings, an action that only served to push Bailey further away from them.

Sadly, the outcome was not what they expected.

Their foster daughter took the opportunity to harm their biological daughter unscrupulously.

Their mistakes had put their own daughter in danger.

Steven was ridden with regret when he recalled what they had done in the past.

Meanwhile, Zoey's heart sank when she received no response from the couple.

She did not know what they had found out, so she did not dare to say anything. Saying another wordcould increase the risk of her making a mistake.

Could they know something else apart from me reuniting with Sofie?

Plop!

She fell to her knees and choked out, “Dad, Mom, it was Ms. Carr who convinced me and stirred up my

emotions using my relationship with her. That's why I acknowledged her. As a person who's receivedhigher education, I know what it means when someone says a parent's love is greater than anything inthe world. She gave me life. It's only right that I recognize her as my mother. Are you really going tokick me out of the Shurmer family because of this?”

“Hah!”

A mocking laugh came from the door. novelbin

Zoey instinctively turned her head in the voice's direction. The moment she spotted Shirley, her bodyshuddered.

Shirley's appearance gave her a bad feeling.

“S-Shirley, didn't you return to the Gourd residence to recuperate? It's the dead of winter, and you'vejust had a miscarriage. Why did you come here?”

D*mn it. I haven't had the chance to seal this b*tch's mouth yet. Don't tell me she's here to get back atme? Sh*t! I've miscalculated. I should've dealt with this troublesome woman first.

Sensing Zoey's hostility, Shirley sneered, “What's wrong? Are you regretting your decisions now? Well, you should be. You didn't eradicate me at the right time. And now, you're in a crisis.”

Zoey twitched her lips and forced a smile. Her words were hinting at something as she said, “I knowwhat you're thinking; there's a long road ahead, and you'll get to have what you want. You know, Iheard a piece of news recently. It's about the second daughter of the Hoffman family. She had amiscarriage, too. See, even a distinguished person like her can have an accident happen to her, so it

doesn't matter that you had a miscarriage this time. You'll just have to tell my brother that you want totry again. Don't be rash, or you'll harm your body.”

What Zoey was implying was that she would help Shirley become the matriarch of the Shurmer family.Hence, the latter should not reveal the truth. After all, Juliana had had a miscarriage, which meant shecould not get married to Zeke anymore. Shirley still had a chance.

In the past, Shirley would have been convinced, for she was blinded by love.

This time, she felt nothing.

After going through so much, she finally realized the man that never belonged to her would never loveher, even if she risked her life and gave him her heart.

Shirley strolled into the living room. Every step she took made Zoey's heart pound.

Zoey could not read Shirley's mind.

No one knew what a person would do when they had reached the end of their rope.

The mere sight of Shirley simply gave Zoey a sense of danger.

When Shirley arrived by Zoey's side, the latter forced a smile and said sweetly, “Shirley, I know howmuch you love Zeke. I'm sure the heavens will be touched by your sincerity and make your wish cometrue someday.”

Snorting, Shirley scoffed, “How? By plotting schemes with you and continuing to harm Bailey and her

students until they die? Then we'll drug your brother to make him forget everything I did in the past andforce him to accept me?”

The smile on Zoey's face froze. The corners of her lips twitched, and her eyes shone with fear.

Zoey was no fool. Naturally, she sensed the resoluteness in Shirley's tone. Clearly, there was noavoiding the matter that day.

Waving his hand, Steven ordered coldly, “That's enough. Just get to the point, Shirley. Don't wasteeveryone's time by beating around the bush.”

The hatred in Shirley's eyes intensified as she stared at Zoey. Deep down, she felt good about thesituation.

After all, Zoey had been using Shirley as her pawn. The former knew Shirley was not pregnant withZeke's child, yet she still used Shirley to influence the relationship between Waverly and Bailey usingthe baby. That showed how incredibly cunning Zoey was.

After enduring all that for the past few days, Shirley finally had the chance to settle the scores that day.

At that thought, Shirley ignored Zoey's pleading gaze and exposed everything she could possibly thinkof.

By the end of it, Shirley even lost control of her emotions and raised her voice.

“You evil woman! You knew I wasn't pregnant with Zeke's child, yet you instigated me to fake anargument with Bailey and use the chance to have a terrible fall. Then you made me blame it on her and

mess up her relationship with Mrs. Shurmer, shattering Bailey's hopes of returning to the Shurmerfamily. I—”

Before she could finish, Zoey jumped to her feet and glared at Shirley, shouting, “I didn't know thatbaby wasn't Zeke's! I've never heard of this, not when they did such a good job at keeping it a secret. IfI knew you weren't pregnant with Zeke's child, I wouldn't have made you fake the accident and—”

She stopped talking abruptly at that point.

“Shirley, you set me up!”
