Chapter 628

So this is why they've come. Ha! They've finally shown their true colors. Juliana sneered. An amnioticfluid test? How vicious.

Juliana's pregnancy was an unstable one. If she were to do an amniotic fluid test, even if it really turnedout to be Huntley's baby, the baby would be in mortal danger.

If it was not Huntley's baby, then things would be even worse.

They could take the opportunity to kick her out of the Hoffman family.

Her father only had two daughters, and her elder sister, Wendy, had already lost her right to inherit thetitle. If something were to happen to her—if she were to be kicked out of the family—the illegitimatechild of the family, Philip, would be able to climb to the top.

After all, Philip was her father's half-brother, and Philip's son was her father's nephew. No one would beable to oppose if Philip's son became the heir to the family.

All of a sudden, there was a weight on her shoulder.

Juliana instinctively turned and saw that Huntley had a hand on her shoulder, silently offering herconsolation.

She lifted her head to glance at him, hinting to him that she was fine.

“Uncle Raymond, why are you hesitating? I heard that Juliana was in love with a man when she was inChanaea and that the man is no ordinary person—he's the head of the Shurmer family, Zeke Shurmer.

If she had slept with him and has his child in her, then you would be inviting trouble by handing allpower over the family to her. Zeke's an ambitious man—he'll take the opportunity to devour theHoffman family whole.”

Right as those words were out of his mouth, Juliana and Huntley's expressions darkened.

They thought that Philip's son was a scion who knew nothing but entertainment, but it seemed like hewas a crafty one.

He had managed to pinpoint Raymond's worry.

Once Raymond heard his nephew's words, he slowly turned to look at his daughter's stomach.

After a while of silence, he asked, “Julie, what will you use to prove that the baby in you is Huntley's?Don't try to talk about morals because I won't listen to that. I just want to know whose baby you'repregnant with.”

Juliana tightened her fists as the gears in her head turned.

What do I do? Do I try to reason with him? But it seems like no amount of explanation will changeFather's mind.

“We'll do the amniotic fluid test,” came an apathetic voice from behind Juliana.

It was Huntley.

Surprise flashed across Juliana's eyes, and she instinctively turned toward him, silently asking him whyhe was agreeing to it.

Huntley shook his head at her, a gesture for her to keep her silence. He then continued, “Since you'redoubtful of this, we'll do a paternity test. If the results show that the baby is mine, I hope you'll drop thismatter. Also, I hope you'll know your limits, or else... I don't have infinite patience, and I won't letoutsiders humiliate my future wife and son again and again.”

Philip grimaced.

Who does Huntley think he is? He's a nobody! He's only so prideful because Raymond saw great valuein him. I refuse to believe that Juliana's baby is his. I've received reliable news that Juliana had takenan abortifacient a while ago. The baby in her must be illegitimate. Only guilt would make her try to abortthe baby right as she found out she was pregnant. Huntley, don't assume I don't know what's going on.You're going to try to tamper with the paternity test results. I'm going to get my doctor to do the test.Let's see how he's going to bribe the medical staff!

“Sure. As long as she's pregnant with your child, we'll drop the matter and stop interfering with herinheritance of the family. We'll even serve her in the future.”

Huntley inclined his head. “I'm sure you'll be suspicious if we're the ones to hire the doctor, so whydon't you have a discussion about this and see who'll do the test for her.”

Philip froze. He never thought that Huntley would be so unhesitant and was even asking him to arrangefor the doctor.

Nevertheless, he was sure that the paternity test results would spell his victory.

“All right. I'll go home and make the arrangements now.”

With that said, he brought his wife and son away.

Raymond glanced at his daughter before walking toward the doorway. As he left, he said, “Pray hardthat your baby is Huntley's. Otherwise, I won't be able to keep you safe from them.”

Juliana watched her father leave as a dark look flashed past her eyes.

Once everyone was gone, she dismissed the maid and narrowed her eyes at Huntley. “What were youthinking? Why did you agree to the test? You know this baby is...”

Huntley walked over to sit opposite her. “They clearly came prepared. No matter what we say, they'llthink that we're making excuses, so why should we waste our breath on them? Didn't you see how Mr.Raymond was already convinced by them? I can't blame him, though. If the baby in you is Zeke's, he'llsurely be worried about Zeke taking over the Hoffman family.”

“He won't,” Juliana cried out. “That's not the kind of person he is.”

Huntley silently stared at her. novelbin

Juliana deflated. “All right. I'm too naive. Let's put aside the kind of person Zeke is for now. If UnclePhilip finds out that the baby in me is... I'll definitely be kicked out of the family. Why should I evenworry about Zeke anymore? Say, what do we do now? Uncle Philip is sure to send a doctor he trusts,so there's no way we'll be able to bribe them.”

Huntley muttered, “We don't need to bribe them. We'll just need to change the results.”

Juliana narrowed her eyes. “How are we going to do that? The Hoffman family's medical system ishighly encrypted. Any slight changes will alert the others to our actions.”
