Chapter 486

Lionel stretched out his arm hurriedly to support him.

Vincent took the opportunity to grab Lionel's arm. He looked at him firmly and said, “Don't tell Vicky thegrudge between us from the previous generation. We shouldn't ruin your lives because of it. Promiseme you'll treat my daughter well.”

Lionel helped Vincent up and placed him on the bed. “She has the right to know.”

Vincent's eyes narrowed.

It was only natural for parents to worry about their children.

He had chosen to be misunderstood by Victoria for all these years rather than tell her the truth becausehe didn't want her to live in hatred.

Now that his days were numbered, he could not just sit back and watch Lionel ruin Victoria's life bytelling her the truth.

“Vicky is pregnant, Lionel. Do you want her to be a single mom with no one to rely on? If you feelyou've failed her, you should bury the past in your heart. Never tell her the truth. Just pretend thatVicky's mother fell off the cliff by accident and your father had nothing to do with it. I'm a dying person. Ihope you can understand my eagerness to protect my daughter, please.”

Lionel slowly closed his eyes.

Indeed, he didn't want to keep Victoria in the dark about her mother's death and believed she had the

right to know it.

However, Vincent had a point. Victoria would surely leave him if she found out the truth.

How was she going to survive on her own with a child?

“Okay. I promise I won't mention this matter first.”

Feeling relief from his tension all of a sudden, Vincent collapsed on the bed.

That's great. The grudges of the previous generation have come to an end. It shouldn't be broughtforward to the next generation. It's painful to live with hatred.

Victoria had planned to go upstairs to eavesdrop on the conversation between her father and Lionel.

Just after she came out of the kitchen, she saw Zayron and the others coming from a long distanceaway.

Shortly after, Zayron appeared in front of Victoria and hugged her by her thighs.

“Vicky, you still have us.”

Tears started to well up in Victoria's eyes.

Right. I still have my family and friends. Some people are destined to leave, and it's impossible to stopthem. The only thing I can do is protect those by my side.

“I know. Don't worry. I've slowly accepted the reality. I won't do anything foolish.” With that, she lookedat the mansion entrance. When she did not see Bailey, she asked in confusion, “Didn't your mommycome with you guys?”

“She has something to do and will come in the afternoon.”

Bailey called Juliana, asking her to help search for the emerald seal. However, she was told by thelatter that it was in the hands of the Hoffman family.

Bailey had wanted to go to Moranta. However, Juliana told her she didn't need to go there herself.Instead, she would find a way to get the red emerald and send someone to Hallsbay with it.

Seeing how confident Juliana was, Bailey thought it was an opportunity to train her, so she agreed.

Although time was almost up and Bailey would be sued by Lina for defamation if she couldn't find theauthentic emerald seal, she didn't pressure Juliana and only reminded her to be careful and not to acthastily.

Meanwhile, at a coffee shop, Bailey was smiling at Zeke, who was seated across the table.

With raised brows, she asked, “May I know why you wanted to meet me, Mr. Shurmer?”

Don't tell me he's confronting me after finding out it was Zayron who caused the fire at the engagementparty the other day. I feel helpless having a mischievous child too.

Zeke remained silent as he looked at her face carefully. He thought they looked more alike the more helooked at her.

She had an uncanny resemblance to Waverly.

Zeke didn't believe the coincidence of two people looking similar. He felt there must be something moreto it.

“Bailey, don't you have anything to say to me in the face of the overwhelming rumors outside?”

Bailey blinked and flashed him an ambiguous smile. “What do you want to hear from me? Do you wantme to say that I'm a daughter of the Shurmer family because I look similar to your mother?”

“But you're not a descendant of the Jefferson family,” Zeke said solemnly. “Since you are not a child ofthe Jefferson family, you must have a real family out there. Do you know where you come from?”

Bailey smiled as she shook her head. “No, I don't. I believe the Shurmer family must have secretlyinvestigated and done a DNA test. So, tell me, am I a member of the Shurmer family?”

Zeke frowned slightly.

Bailey shrugged. “Look, the results of your investigation couldn't prove anything. So what else can Isay? Mr. Shurmer, don't be obsessed with this matter. It's a waste of time. I have no relation with theShurmer family.” She slowly stood up from the chair. “I'll be leaving if there isn't anything else todiscuss. Enjoy your coffee.”

Zeke watched her as she left without stopping.

Although he didn't understand Bailey well, he knew it was useless to force her to disclose somethingthat she refused to.

Seconds later, a waitress walked in.

She was more of a bodyguard than a waitress. Just now, when she knocked into Bailey, she had pulledout a few strands of hair from her.

“How did things go?”

“Rest assured, Sir. I've gotten my hands on Ms. Jefferson's hair.”

Zeke picked up his cup of coffee and took a sip. Then, he said flatly, “Send it to the Shurmer family'ssecret research institute and ask the person in charge to run the test personally. I want a hundredpercent accuracy.”

“Yes, Sir.”

At the underground parking, Bailey subconsciously reached out and stroked her hair.

There was still a faint pain in her scalp. She reckoned a lot of her hair must have been pulled out.

Bailey knew Zeke's intention to meet wasn't to get information out of her.

His real motive was for her to collide with the waitress.

It was easy to figure out why he wanted her hair. The paternity test from before had failed to persuadethe Shurmers.

They were still making efforts to investigate her identity. novelbin

At the headquarters of Luther Group, the secretaries were surprised to see Bailey.

It hadn't been long since she had had a miscarriage. She was supposed to be resting now.

Chloe went up to her and smiled. “Ms. Bailey, how are you feeling after your miscarriage?”

She sounded as though she cared for Bailey, but she was aiming for where it hurt the most.

Bailey scoffed inwardly, All right, let's do this since this is what you want.

“I'm fine. I heard you applied some abortifacient on the fruits. What an ingrate. Congratulations ongetting promoted to the position of chief secretary.”

Chloe smiled while she put her hand around Bailey's arm. “Thank you, Ms. Bailey. By the way, what areyou doing at the company today?”

To that, Bailey's lips curled. She said slowly, “I've been having dreams of my unborn baby crying. Somepeople told me it's the spirit of my child. I think I have to meet the murderer who killed him, so he canavenge himself.”
