Chapter 462

Upon hearing that, Chloe felt so ashamed that she wished the ground could open up and swallow herwhole.

By then, she finally figured out that Artemis knew Harry was going to come to the CEO's office, whichwas why he had allowed her to strip. Afterward, he wanted to use Harry to teach her a cruel lesson.

Sure enough, he was heartless.

“How could you do this, Mr. Luther?” She stomped on the ground with her high heels a few times, thendashed out of the office.

Watching her leave with her tail between her legs, Artemis sneered.

Harry gazed at him fearfully. With his voice shaking, he said, “M-Mr. Luther, Chloe's been spoiled eversince she was young. Please be more tolerant of her.”

Artemis raised his eyebrows in response, chuckling lightly. “I was merely joking earlier. Don't take it toheart. You should really tell Jacques to educate his daughter, though. The fact that she just startsstripping out of nowhere is pretty bad. It's harmful to her reputation.”

There was no way Harry had the guts to refuse.

While wiping away the sweat on his forehead, he agreed, “Okay. I'll let Jacques know when I bump intohim.” novelbin

Meanwhile, the chief secretary had accepted her fate. She obediently went to the HR department to

carry out the resignation procedures.

In reality, she was only doing so because Chloe had too powerful of a background.

Even if she knew that Chloe had spiked the fruits, she dared not investigate the issue.

Losing her job was not a big deal, but it would be disastrous if she did something to make the Westfamily hate her.

All of her family and friends were in Hallsbay. If she crossed the mayor of the city, they would no longerbe able to survive there.

Chloe was the only daughter of the West family, and all of her family members had high hopes for her.

If the chief secretary recklessly exposed the fact that Chloe had tried to drug someone withabortifacient, it would cause an uproar.

Consequently, Chloe's reputation would be ruined, and the West family would certainly get revenge onher in the worst ways imaginable. Her friends and family would have no more place in Hallsbay.

After leaving the HR department, the chief secretary was about to go to the finance department tosettle her salary when the phone in her hand suddenly rang.

She looked down and saw that it was a call from Bailey.

The moment she saw Bailey's name on the screen, she teared up and nearly started bawling.

Once the call went through, she could hear Bailey's feeble voice. “Come to the parking lot for a second,Ms. York. Don't let anyone see you. Stay hidden.”

Then, she hung up without waiting for a reply.

Without hesitation, Ms. York immediately strode toward the elevator.

Upon finding Bailey's car in the underground parking, she opened the door and went inside.

When she saw Bailey leaning against the seat with her eyes shut, she could not help but ask, “Didn'tyou have a miscarriage, Mrs. Luther? Why did you get discharged so fast? That isn't good. It's harmfulto your body.”

Once the words came out of her mouth, she belatedly realized that she was making things worse.Hastily, she explained, “I wasn't trying to rub salt in your wound. I just—”

Bailey raised her hand, signaling for her to stop. With a faint smile, she said, “Don't worry. It was aminor accident; I didn't miscarry.”

That left Ms. York stunned. However, after some contemplation, she understood and happilyexclaimed, “Did you lie about the miscarriage on purpose? Was it because you wanted to lure out theperson who drugged you?”

Bailey smirked. “I'll give you a month off from work. Take a vacation. The company will cover all thecosts.”

Ms. York stared at her in a daze. “You believe me?”

Bailey could not help but laugh. “Do I seem that stupid? Don't blame Mr. Luther, either. I was the onewho told him to do this. After all, I'm up against the most distinguished, rich young lady in the entirepolitical scene of Hallsbay. I have to be careful when dealing with her. I have to eliminate this danger, and I need to make sure the West family can't do a single thing about it.”

The following day, Zeke and Shirley's engagement party was held in Century Hotel.

The Shurmer family was a prestigious family in the medical field. They had pharmaceutical factoriesaround the globe and over a thousand branch offices all around the world.

Even though Zeke had specifically requested the engagement party be kept low-key, it was still a hugeevent.

The Shurmer family had invited Artemis, but he had no plans of attending since Bailey had to be absentbecause of her “miscarriage.”

Bailey thought about it. In the end, she decided to let the children attend the engagement party in herstead.

Zeke was their biological uncle, after all. Even though they had not reunited, that would not changetheir blood ties. It would be good for the kids to celebrate their uncle's engagement.

Bailey brought the children to Century Hotel. After leaving them in Felicity's care, she got Artemis tosend her to the resort.

The weather was terrible that day. It was drizzling, and the pitter-patter of the rain seemed to strikeone's heart. There was a sorrowful feeling to it.

From far away, she spotted a slim figure standing in the rain, looking up at the gloomy sky.

At that sight, Bailey felt a pang of heartache.

She knew Juliana would be sad and upset.

There was nothing that could be done, though.

As the eldest daughter of the Hoffman family, Juliana had her own responsibilities and thus could notact recklessly.

Naturally, that was not the point. The point was that Zeke did not like her.

If Zeke had any feelings for her at all, Juliana would forge a path where they could be together, even ifshe had to risk offending the entire Hoffman family.

Nonetheless, the reality remained unchanged.

Zeke knew that Juliana was going to leave Hallsbay that day and head back to the Hoffman family.

Even so, he did not show himself.

Not only that, but he even arranged for his and Shirley's engagement party to be held on the same day.

It was a straightforward response.

He was doing that to permanently crush Juliana's hopes so that she could calmly return to the Hoffmanfamily and be crowned queen, the most powerful woman in Adrune.

After Artemis parked the car, Bailey opened the door and was about to leave.

“Wait.” He quickly reached out to grab her, then stuffed an umbrella into her hands.

At first, Bailey did not want to take it.

Her disciple was standing in the rain. As her master, it was only right for Bailey to join her.

However, she decided to give up on standing in the rain with Juliana when she saw Artemis' frown ashe looked at her abdomen.

She had yet to recover from her near-miscarriage. If something happened to her from being soaked inthe rain, Artemis might go insane.

The man was easily frightened, so she decided not to make trouble for herself.

Bailey took the umbrella and walked over to Juliana. After standing in front of her, she brushed awaythe hair sticking to the latter's face and said, “Julie, every heartbreaking experience is a moment inwhich you are reborn. When you come back, I'm sure you'll return as the queen with the whole world inyour hands. That's what you should really be after.”

Juliana's lips twitched. It took her a few tries before she could finally get her voice out. “Is it really

impossible for me to be with him, Master? Even after I took over the Hoffman family and becamequeen, is there still no way for us to be together?”

Bailey sighed quietly. “He's engaged, Julie. It's happening today. In the future, he's going to be amarried man.”

The rain grew heavier. The soft sound of sobbing caused the air to grow tense.

Drip!

Teardrops mixed with rainwater flowed down Juliana's face.
