Chapter 433

In the living room, Steven perused the contents of the report dubiously and honed in on the words “notbiologically related.”

So all this about the swapping of daughters is nothing but a farce?

Zeke took the DNA test report from his father and took a glance at it before frowning.

“She's not a daughter of the Shurmer family?”

At that, he trained his gaze on Lawrance and inquired solemnly, “Are you sure the information here isaccurate and has not been tampered with?”

Zeke was exceptionally astute and considered the various possibilities that didn't even occur to hisfather.

A look of epiphany instantly flashed past Steven's eyes when he heard that.

This DNA test was likely to become a stumbling block for Zoey.

Therefore, it was possible that she'd bribed Lawrance into creating a false report.

Cold sweat beaded Lawrance's forehead at Zeke's forwardness.

The members of the Shurmer family were indeed not to be trifled with.

Thankfully he'd not redacted any of the report's contents. Otherwise, with how sharp the father-son pair

were, he would have been exposed and sent to prison.

“O-Of course not! I never altered anything in this report! This concerns the bloodline of the Shurmerfamily. I wouldn't have dared to do such a thing even if I had nine lives! If you still have doubts, feel freeto bring the blood tests to Justin to be tested again.”

It would be in poor taste for Zeke to continue questioning Lawrance's words.

After instructing the butler to escort Lawrance out, Zeke said to Steven, “Perhaps this was all a blunder, and we should let it rest.”

Steven nodded. “I suppose so, for now. By the way, when do you intend to be engaged with Shirley?”

Zeke's face darkened in the blink of an eye at the mention of that.

After an extended period of silence, he took his time replying, “Granddad's death anniversary is in afew days. We'll talk about this after that.”

Steven snorted. “Fine then. I'll see what other excuses you can come up with to postpone thisdiscussion when the time comes.”

Zeke scratched his head and chuckled. “I would simply be delaying the inevitable. Rest assured that I'llmarry Shirley. I won't put you in a tight spot.” novelbin

Yvette opened the door to the study in a private mansion while holding a tray containing a bowl ofmushroom soup.

Ever since Shannon was incarcerated, Micah had neither eaten nor drank. He appeared ghastly withhis bloodshot eyes and haggard mien.

“Micah, I've prepared some mushroom soup. Drink it while it's still warm.”

Micah stared at her icily. His penetrating stare landed on her and rooted her to a spot within hisperiphery.

“Were you the one who orchestrated that car accident three years ago? You'd better be frank with me.If I find any evidence against you, not even my debt to your father will save you.”

Yvette was visibly shaken by his words and her eyes instantly became misty.

“M-Micah, what are you saying? Why can't I seem to understand a word? What is this car accidentabout, and what have I got anything to do with it? I've been devastated that Shannon was imprisonedtoo and had been trying to contact the elders at the headquarter in hopes that they'll grant her leniency. How could you slander me like that?”

“Is it?” Micah laughed humorlessly. His bloodshot eyes were devoid of warmth.

“You claimed that you've contacted the elders at the headquarter to spare Shannon. If that's the case, how did they react to it?”

“I...”

“Speak!”

Yvette pursed her lips and bit the bullet. “I'm sure you're aware that many of the elders are old friendsof my father's. They view me as their daughter. Now that I'm of age, they wish to see me get married tosomeone suitable.”

The mirth in Micah's eyes thickened. “What you're trying to say is that those codgers will only stoppursuing the matter regarding Shannon's offense if I agree to marry you, is it?”

“Yes indeed, Micah. We were already betrothed in the first place. We should get married as soon aspossible or, at the very least, be engaged. Once the elders see that our union is confirmed, they'll begracious and release Shannon.”

An odd look marred Micah's features. “You're sorely mistaken if you think you're the only one who holdssway over those geezers in the entirety of Tarragon. I know someone else who can bend them to hiswill using the hard way.”

He glanced at Yvonne meaningfully and added. “You better bear in mind the conversation we hadtoday and pray that you had nothing to do with the car accident. Or else...”

Yvette looked at him blankly and deadpanned, “Or else what? You'll murder me?”

“It'll be a debt that will be paid by blood.” The chilling words rolled off his tongue.

Subsequently, he got to his feet and made his way to the door.

Yvette abruptly turned toward him and screamed at the top of her lungs, “Micah, I am the only one whocan save Shannon in the entirety of Tarragon other than the leader of Tarragon. However, would this

elusive leader make an appearance to save a random woman? Don't be so naive. Shannon has brokenour laws. Therefore, without my pardon, she won't be spared.”
