Chapter 422

Yvette remained mystified. novelbin

“I don't know what you're trying to say, Shannon. If you think I was the one who killed your son andcaused the loss of your arm, feel free to look for Micah and Holden with the evidence. Given theirconnections to you, you can count on them for their support.”

Shannon slowly balled her fists.

I will not go to them. They will demand evidence before laying a finger on Yvette because her fatherraised them. That is also why she dared to come to me so brazenly.

“The wages of sin is death. You will reap what you sow, Yvette.”

“Is that so?”

Yvette stood up from the couch and sauntered toward the door.

When she walked past Shannon, she reached out and patted her shoulder. “I must get to anappointment, and it's time I take my leave. Without concrete evidence, Shannon, you can't do a thing tome.”

With that, she strode out of the rented house on her heels.

When she reached the corridor outside, she suddenly stopped to turn back and sneer at Shannon.“Micah is now the head of Tarragon. Though his power is not as vast as the unseen leader's, he isomnipotent within Tarragon. Business tycoons all over the world want to befriend him. It wouldn't even

be surprising for a man like that to have a harem. According to Tarragon's polygamy rules, he isallowed to have wives and concubines. Look at yourself, Shannon. You're not worthy of being with him.If you know what's best for you, keep your distance.”

Shannon clenched her fists.

Yvette's words felt like a cruel stab to her heart.

Indeed, she was unworthy of being with Micah.

The man was now a globally renowned legendary figure who held the hearts of women in the palm ofhis hand.

As for Shannon, she had a broken arm; her mind was approaching its twilight years, and she could bebarren for life. Even an unremarkable suitor would not want her.

Sometimes, she would gaze at the stump where her left arm used to be and would feel repulsed by it.

A broken, incomplete woman who causes revulsion in all men who cast their gaze upon her. What rightdo I have to stand as an equal to that perfect man? My only reason for living now is revenge. I willavenge my child, and Eugene's spirit will be laid to rest. Since both of them are unreliable, I have tointervene. I will end myself after killing Yvette. No more attachments in the world. Death is perhapswhere I belong. My only way out.

In the living room of a private mansion, Micah was conversing with Holden.

“What actually happened six years ago? What did I steal from the Hoffman family?” Holden asked in a

deep voice.

Micah lowered his head slightly. After a brief silence, he replied calmly, “I don't actually know because Iwas sent to deal with the riot in Alendor. You'd lost your memory by the time I came back.

“Oh, by the way, not long after your return to the organization, the Hoffman family lost Zaewora. I'mguessing that, through Ms. Hoffman, you'd stolen the plans the Hoffman family had for Zaewora andreported it to the organization.

“With an iron fist, the organization ruined their plans and occupied the entire territory of Zaewora.”

Holden's gaze dimmed.

That is why the Hoffman family refuses to release my son. They intend to use him to take back theircontrolling right of Zaewora. That will only be the first of their demands. There will be other conditions.

Micah cast him a glance before asking, “The controlling rights of Zaewora in exchange for your son?I'm afraid that's not possible. The old timers in the headquarters will never agree to this. I wouldmobilize Tarragon's forces and destroy them if I were you.”

Holden glared at him. “At my son's expense, then. What do you think panic would do to them? Whenforced into a corner, they might kill the boy in anger.”

Micah shrugged. “Then I have no other suggestions. You have to give them back what we took fromthem as ransom. Nevertheless, Artemis has the final say in this.”

With that, he rose and walked toward the door.

Holden looked at his back. “How do you plan on dealing with Shannon?” he asked coldly. “She hasbeen through enough, and I, for one, will not allow her to return to Tarragon. If you still care for her, youshould set her free.”

Micah halted and turned around. “What are you trying to tell me? More precisely, what are you trying towarn me?”

Holden spread his hands. “It's not my place to give you warnings. I'm just advising you not to treatShannon as an entitled boss would treat his woman. While there's still breath in me, I will not allow anyman to treat her as a trophy.”

Micah pursed his lips tightly. “She's beyond repair now, with nothing more keeping her in this world. Itwill only end one way if I force her. It would be to give her no way out. Shannon is everything to me.Don't worry. I won't force her hand. If I could, I would like to watch over her for as long as she lives.”

Holden heaved a sigh of relief.

I underestimated Micah's feelings for Shannon. He's used to being a bully. He would take what hewanted without compromise. For him to take a step back this time shows his feelings for her.
