Chapter 409

The sudden tension in Shannon's body didn't escape Bailey's notice.

Sneaking a curious glance, she saw the former staring intently at Micah.

To be precise, it was the lady beside Micah whom her attention was focused on. novelbin

Does Shannon know her? From the look in her eyes, it's clear that they have an irreconcilable grudgeagainst each other.

Yvette released Micah's arm before taking a step forward unabashedly and smiling. “I didn't expect torun into you here, Shannon. Where have you been all these years?”

She reached out to grab Shannon's arm.

Shannon's eyes glistened, and she avoided it by reflex.

Bailey was one step ahead as she stood in front of Shannon to shield her, a sharp glint in her eyes.

She was trying to grab Shannon's left hand, which obviously isn't there. Evidently, she's trying to rubsalt into her wounds on purpose.

“I'm sorry, but my friend isn't comfortable interacting with strangers, so please step back.”

Feeling awkward, Yvette said, “Shannon and I go way back. When we were in Tarragon, we wouldalways talk to each other about everything under the sun. There's no way she would see me as astranger.”

Bailey continued to stare at Yvette coldly. She could feel Shannon trembling all over when she reachedout behind her to hold the latter's arm.

Indeed, there's something really fishy going on with this woman.

“What has happened in the past has no bearing on the present. I have already given you a fair warning. If you refuse to take a step back, don't blame me for being rude.”

Yvette's face clouded over. She was about to retort when Micah pulled her back.

“Go to the VIP area and wait for me there. I have something to speak to them about.”

Just as Yvette wanted to protest, Shannon preempted her. “Bay, I don't feel like staying here. Let's go.”

Sensing Shannon's turbulent emotions, Bailey led her to the elevator despite the burning questions shehad.

The moment both of them walked past Micah, he wanted to grab Shannon's hand to explain himself.

However, her right hand was being held by Bailey.

As for her left hand, he didn't dare touch it at all.

That was the scar in their relationship that would never heal.

With no way to stop Shannon, all he could do was stand idly by and watch Bailey lead her into the

elevator.

Meanwhile, when Yvette saw how shaken Micah was after running into Shannon, she clenched herfists.

Shannon... Shannon... You lost your arm and your son. Why haven't you been driven to madness? No,my fears won't be allayed even if you lose your mind now. Micah loves you too much. He will stillprotect you no matter what you become. You must die!

Inside the elevator, Bailey wrapped her hands around Shannon, who was trembling, as she askedtentatively, “Who's that woman? Is it all right for you to tell me?”

Her question caused Shannon to shiver even more intensely than before.

Ding!

When the doors opened, Bailey gave up digging further and prepared to get out of the elevator withShannon in tow.

Jolted back to her senses, Shannon stopped Bailey with a tug. “Bay, do you have time now? I want totell you about the past.”

Bailey led her into one of the lounges available.

Upon settling Shannon down on the couch, she poured a glass of warm water for her. “Drink this tocalm yourself down, and then we can talk. Take your time.”

After taking the glass from Bailey, Shannon took a few sips and began her story. “Her name is YvetteSullivan, daughter of the former head of Tarragon, Leo Sullivan. She grew up together with me, Holden, and Micah. As the de facto “princess,” she ended up being spoilt. When I subsequently fell in love withMicah, a twist of fate led her to develop feelings for him too.”

Shannon's story gave Bailey an epiphany.

“Back when you were framed for stealing Tarragon's secrets, was Yvette behind it? As for Eugene...Remember when you overheard the attackers mention that it was Micah who sent them? Could it havebeen Yvette too?”

Shannon pursed her lips. She didn't know how to explain it all.

Even though she was just speculating, she knew in her gut that it was true.

Deep down, there was a voice constantly telling her that Yvette was responsible for the calamities inher life.

Sensing her concerns, Bailey gave her a hug. “It's all right. All that matters is that we now have a leadto investigate. If I find out that she's the one who did this to you, I'll definitely make her pay.”

Shannon shook her head and gripped Bailey's arm as she warned, “Bay, don't get yourself involved.Even though her father is dead, she's still protected by plenty of his loyal followers. You'll get yourself inbig trouble if you offend Tarragon for my sake.”
