Chapter 318
Her tone was chilly with a hint of defiance.
She had no intention of provoking an official's son.
Raiden was startled as if he had seen through her thoughts. “You're right. I have overstepped mybounds,” he said with a chuckle. “All right, then. If you don't win the award, I will disclose your identityas Spook to the public and have the people from the cyberspace administration department send youto prison.”
Bailey grinned and was about to speak when the office door swung open to admit Justin.
“I have something urgent to speak with you about. Is this a good time?”
Bailey raised an eyebrow and, upon further thought, inferred that he came to discuss Veronique'saffairs.
She stood up from the swivel chair. “It is. Let's chat in the room next door.”
“Was it you who'd loaded the data into the computer at City Hall?” Justin began brusquely as soon ashe took a seat.
Bailey smiled. “Zayron used my account to do it,” she affirmed bluntly. “I not only knew about it but alsocondoned it.”
Justin's pupils contracted violently. “Zephyr is in urgent need of a bone marrow transplant,” he said,lowering his voice, “and Scarlett has promised to donate her bone marrow for the child. Such an
incident has ruined the plan to obtain the...”
He suddenly stopped talking at the mention of the subject to squint at Bailey. “Something's not right,”he muttered through gritted teeth. “You regard Zephyr as your son. How could you just watch Zayronmess things up? Could you have found another way to save Zephyr?”
Bailey smiled enigmatically. “You're not as stupid as I thought,” she teased. “Yes, we do have anotherway, but I can't tell you how for the time being.”
Justin opened his mouth with the intent of asking further, but Bailey waved her hand to stop him. “Gohome and appease Scarlett. Keep her from making trouble, or Rose will be the end of her.”
Justin pursed his lips. “Are you sure you can save Zephyr without Scarlett donating her bone marrow?”he asked seriously after a moment of silence.
Bailey responded with another question. “Is that important?”
Justin gritted his teeth in consternation. “Of course, it's important. If Scarlett doesn't have to donate herbone marrow, I'll find a way to annul the marriage contract between the Xuereb family and the Fletcherfamily. Veronique gave me a child. I should support her and give the child an unbroken home.”
Bailey blinked.
Somehow, Zayron's sabotage gave Veronique a glimmer of hope.
“Do you really want to marry Veronique?”
Justin glared at her. “Do you think I don't love her because I'm cold to her?” he growled. “Forget it. It'suseless talking to you.”
At that, he got up and walked toward the door.
Bailey gazed at his back with a smile before giving him an affirmative answer. “The Fletcher familynever planned to ask Scarlett to donate her bone marrow from the beginning, nor did Vero pin herhopes on Scarlett, so it's the truth that she found another way to save Zephyr. Rest assured.” novelbin
After watching him leave, Bailey got up slowly and prepared to head back to the office.
A figure dashed in and grabbed her as soon as she reached the door. It dragged her two steps back,then slammed the door shut.
“Artemis, what are you—”
Before she finished her sentence, the man's overwhelming kiss stifled her. His movements were roughand indicative of his anger.
Bailey was annoyed. She stomped on his foot with a high heel, and a gasp sounded from above herhead at the next second.
Serves him right.
“What's wrong with you?”
“Why did you let Fletcher in? He has ulterior motives toward you.”
Bailey glared at him and then at their amorous embrace. “Who is the one harboring ulterior motivestoward me?” she retorted. “Have you no dignity, Artemis?”
“None whatsoever,” Artemis replied as he looked at her. “You can ask me if you have any doubts aboutthe code. You are not allowed to approach other men.”
Bailey was livid.
This man is too unreasonable. I can't even have friends of the opposite sex after being courted by him?
“There's no need to concern yourself with my affairs,” she said curtly.
Artemis chuckled suddenly and reached out to caress her face. “All right, I won't. I'll only concernmyself with our affair,” he declared shamelessly.
After a stunned silence, Bailey laughed despite herself. “Enough fooling around, Artemis. Raiden'ssuperiors sent him to oversee this programming competition. It will only be a few days. Once thecompetition is over, you won't have to look at him anymore.”
Artemis snorted coldly.
That's true. You are getting ready to leave. What other man would be a threat to me?
Meanwhile, Wendy was glowering at the woman who had suddenly appeared at the Gezmondresidence. “You are the subject on every scandalmonger's lips in town,” she yelled. “How dare you
come to me?”
Ignoring the latter's contempt, Rose linked her arm around the other woman's. “Don't worry, Wendy,”she soothed, “I disguised myself when I came here. No one will find out.”
Wendy flung Rose's arm aside with a look of disgust. “What do you want from me?” she asked icily.
Embarrassment flashed in Rose's eyes when her arm was thrown aside before being replaced byhostility. Mr. Gezmond has never touched you, a woman who gave birth to a wild child after all theseyears of marriage. How dare you fling my arm aside?
“Didn't you mention a few days ago that you would deal with Mr. Gezmond's mistress? I can help younow that I have freed up time.”
Wendy was stunned. The coldness on her face gradually dissipated as she said with a light smile,“How kind of you to remember this, Rose. Tell me, then, how we should deal with her.”
“I think we should first expose the existence of Mr. Sebastian to the public so they know that Mr.Gezmond has a family. Then, we'll reveal how Victoria did not hesitate in seducing Mr. Gezmond tosave her family's business, to pile moral condemnation upon her, and cast her aside in disgrace. Whatdo you think?”
Wendy's lips spread in a triumphant smile. “Sounds good. I'll leave this to you. Remember, you willnever recover for as long as you live if you dare to leak the news and inform Lionel that I gave theorder.”
“Don't worry. I will leave no loose ends.”
Juliana Stone, or Juliana Hoffman as she was known, was frowning as she stood in the corridor outsidethe cafe.
These two women are planning to sabotage Victoria? Who emboldened them so?
In the meantime, Shirley rushed into Zoey's bedroom in the Shurmer residence with her phone.
“Good news, Zoey. I found a way for you to deal with Bailey.”
Zoey, who was applying a face mask, tore it off at those words. “How?” she demanded with a frown.“No games. Tell me quickly.”
Shirley walked up to her and sat down before saying slowly, “The Gourd family and the Fletcher familyin Jadeborough have always been pretentious. My brother just called to inform me that the infamoushacker, Spook, has hacked the research institute's system and stole the blood type of Scarlett's bonemarrow. The higher-ups are secretly arresting Spook as we speak.”
Zoey's eyes darted around as countless thoughts flashed through her mind before finally converging atone point.
“Bailey appeared to participate in the International Programming Competition at the last minute, provingthat she was unwilling to participate in the beginning. Her sudden agreement later feels more like a lastresort. Are you saying that woman is Spook, Rose?”
