Veronique was taken aback for a moment, baffled by his sudden reaction.
“Didn't you always want to marry Scarlett? I just asked you to marry her sooner for the sake of savingZephyr!”

Justin was furious. After staring at her delicate face for a long moment, he lowered his head andstarted laughing.
“Veronique, how could you be so cruel? How could you sacrifice me for the sake of saving our son?”
Veronique was even more confused. She stared at him in bewilderment and asked blankly, “If it wasnot for Zephyr, would you have entertained the thought of breaking up your engagement with Scarlett?”
Justin froze on the spot.
Veronique chuckled bitterly, pushed him away slowly, and said in a sad tone, “Justin, I don't know whyyou're being so difficult now. I just hope that you can take Zephyr's life seriously. Scarlett is the onlyperson who can save him now! Don't you think that, as a father, you should agree to all of the requeststhat Scarlett makes? Everything is worth it as long she's willing to donate her bone marrow to Zephyr.”
Justin scoffed and sneered, “Veronique, you are quite the saint, aren't you?”
Veronique bit her lip and said nothing.
Landing a punch on the wall beside Veronique, Justin said through gritted teeth, “All right. As you wish,I'll marry Scarlett and persuade her to donate her bone marrow.”
With that, he threw away the cane in his hand and limped toward the end of the corridor.
Veronique's legs buckled, and she slumped onto the ground. She looked at his leaving figure, and tearsrolled from the corners of her eyes.
This was the best solution she could think of to minimize the damage.

Zayron and Susan exchanged looks, seeing the doubt in each other's eyes.
“Mommy, you're doing so well in Hallsbay. Why do you want to leave all of a sudden?”
Bailey did not explain. She caressed Susan's head and said with a smile, “The same old rule—just doas I say. You don't have to ask so much because even if I explain it, you may not understand.”
Susan wanted to speak, but she was stopped by Zayron grabbing her hand. He gestured for her to stopasking questions. She pouted and stepped back gloomily.
Zayron gave his mother a smile and said, “Bailey, we'll follow you wherever you go.”
Despite saying that, Zayron was planning something else in his heart.
Bailey wants to escape from Hallsbay? No way! I will not let that happen! I finally found my rich andpowerful dad, and I haven't gained any benefits from him yet. I'm not going to let go easily. Artemis was drinking with a few clients at Golden Age Hotel when he received the text message fromZayron. He curled his lips into a sly smile.
This kid is kind of smart. At least he doesn't mess around when it comes to his mother.
Artemis replied: Okay, I got it. Please watch over her closely. Don't forget that if you want to inherit myhuge underground forces, you have to help me get your mother.
Zayron was overjoyed when he received the reply from his father.
His main concern was not whether Artemis was his biological father. He was only interested in thoseunderground forces in Artemis' hands. For the sake of that, he did not mind selling his mother off.
At a café by the corner of the street, two middle-aged men were sitting opposite each other in a privateroom on the second floor. They were discussing the new drug produced by Dyke Pharmaceutical.

Kayden swallowed and said with difficulty, “But your target is Bailey. If we make Zoey the scapegoat, itwould deviate from what you've planned.”
Cadence shook his head helplessly and sighed. “I didn't expect Bailey to be so cautious. She even
supervised the whole production process of the drug. Perhaps I acted too flamboyantly previously, andit attracted her attention. Hence, she has been keeping an eye on the production process. Thankfully,that Zoey from the Shurmer family decided to take the bullet for us. I'll just have to find anotheropportunity to take down Bailey in the future.
