Chapter 137

Gwendolyn was about to get up and utter a retort when Bailey stopped her, then slowly rose to her feet.Gazing at Felicity with a smile, Bailey arched a brow as she asked, “Does that mean you agree forSimon to marry me?”

Felicity's elegant and dignified face twitched violently several times.

This d*mn b*tch! When did I agree for Simon to marry her?

“As I said, I'll rot in hell if I let you become part of the Luther family.”

Bailey smiled and lowered her gaze to look at Gwendolyn sitting on the sofa. Softening her tone, shesaid, “Mrs. Chivers, you heard that. Mrs. Luther said she'll never allow me to become part of the Lutherfamily. If anyone criticizes me in the future, you must attest to that for me.”

A clear-headed and percipient person, Gwendolyn naturally understood the hidden meaning behindthose words.

“Don't worry. Seeing that neither you nor Simon is willing, no one in this world will force the both of youto be together. Since you have nothing to do with each other, the two of you are free to marry whoeveryou wish.”

Felicity was no fool either, so how could she possibly not know what Gwendolyn meant? Herexpression darkened instantly, and she asked through clenched teeth, “What do you mean by that,Gwendolyn? Are you agreeable to her dating Ed? What are you thinking? How can you accept her andlet her and those two bastards of hers taint the Chivers family bloodline?”

At that, Glen used his cane to strike the floor several times. “That's enough. You've completely ruinedmy good mood. I think all of you can't wait to see me dead, which is why you can't bear seeing mehappy.” novelbin

Turning to Glen with a hurt expression, Felicity protested, “How can you say that, Father? I'm onlydoing this for the good of the Chivers family. What if Bailey doesn't give Ed a son and plans to assistthat little bastard in taking over? Are all of you going to stand idly by and watch the family's century-oldbusiness fall into an outsider's hands?”

“That kid also has the Luther family's blood running through his veins. Even if Ed hands the businessover to him, it won't be a loss for the Luther family,” Glen replied, casting her an icy glance.

Felicity was struck dumb.

It's obviously wrong. Everything is wrong, yet I have no way of arguing.

Seemingly losing his patience, Glen raised his cane and pointed it at the door. “If there's no otherbusiness, you may leave. Don't linger here and ruin my mood. The mere sight of all of you annoys me.”

Felicity shot Bailey a fierce glare before finally introducing Cadence.

“Father, this is Dr. White from Uramuzor. He has over twenty years of clinical experience and hasperformed numerous craniotomies. I'm sure he can cure you.”

When Glen heard that, he gave a dismissive wave of his hand without a second thought. “I've said Idon't want to receive any more treatment. Cadence White? He's just a lad! Undergoing surgery will still

make me suffer. Send him back to where you found him. Don't bring him here as he'll only be aneyesore.”

Rhonda quickly stepped forward and tried to persuade him. “Granddad—”

“Who's your granddad? Why don't I know that I have such a grown-up granddaughter?” Glen remarked, interrupting her before she could go on.

Embarrassment flashed across Rhonda's face, and she hurriedly changed how she addressed him.“Old Mr. Chivers, Dr. White is a renowned brain expert abroad. He can surely cure you. Just trust methis once and cooperate with the treatment, okay?”

“Certainly not,” Glen answered, shooting her down firmly and brusquely. “Nothing anyone says will beof any use. I have only just heard I had two great-grandchildren, and I still want to live. If I go aheadwith the surgery, I might die on the operation table. What are your intentions? Have you found astrange doctor to perform surgery on me because you want to kill me sooner?”

Rhonda paled. I put in so much effort to get Cadence here, but why is Old Mr. Chivers now accusingme of harboring ill intentions? Bailey. It must be her. That b*tch must've bad-mouthed me in front of thatold fool!

She quickly turned to Felicity and choked out, “Mrs. Luther, does Granddad have some sort ofmisunderstanding toward me? I genuinely want to do my part as a filial granddaughter-in-law andharbor no other intentions.”

Felicity hastily waved a hand at her, then looked at Glen and said, “Didn't you previously come roundand agreed to let Anonymous operate on you? Why are you going back on your word now?”

“That's right. I agreed to let Anonymous perform surgery on me. However, the problem is that you didn'tbring that person to me.”

After saying that, he jabbed his cane toward Cadence, who was standing awkwardly in the middle ofthe living room. “Is he Anonymous?”

Felicity was stunned for a moment before replying bitterly, “That woman is merely angling for fame. Iextended a sincere invitation to meet her, but she refused. She even put on airs and acted allpretentious. If you ask me, she's not as extraordinary as the rumors say. It's just that she operated onEskaria's king, and the surgery happened to be a success. Dr. White has performed hundreds ofsurgeries over the past few years, and all of them have been successful.”

Bailey raised her eyebrows and smirked.

I remember Veronique telling me that this old hag got on her knees before Veronique a few days ago, begging for me to come out of seclusion. It hasn't been that long, but she's already starting to vilify me.This must be the mindset of the wealthy. To them, the world seems to revolve around them, andanyone who doesn't let them have their way is just plain heinous.

The tension in the air of the living room was thick and suffocating.

Just then, the sound of footsteps on the stairs rang out as Yoel, Artemis, and Edmund descended fromthe second floor.

As Yoel walked toward the couch, he asked, “What happened? Why do all of you look so angry? We'reall family, so why can't we talk to each other nicely if we have something to say? Must it end up like

this?”

Glen snorted coldly. Ignoring Yoel, he beckoned to the little ones. “Come on, come over here. Let'scontinue. I lost the last round, didn't I? Stick the paper on my face first.”

The children glanced at each other.

Then, Felicity stomped her foot twice and stormed up to Yoel. Gritting her teeth, she said, “I think it'sbetter for our father to stay at the Luther residence. He won't get fooled by some people to the pointthat he doesn't even listen to his own daughter.”

In response, Yoel massaged his forehead and sidestepped the topic. “You're Dr. White, am I right?Let's head to the study to talk. My father's complete medical record is there. If you feel confident aboutthe surgery, we can proceed to discuss the next steps.”

Felicity still wanted to say something, but a look from Yoel silenced her.

Clenching her jaw, she reluctantly followed the others into the study on the first floor.

After they left, Rhonda was the only one who remained standing.

Having no intention of talking to her, Gwendolyn tugged at Bailey's arm and picked up theirconversation where they had left off.

Meanwhile, Glen and the children happily resumed playing cards.

“Dummy lost! Haha! You lost, so you're the Old Maid! Hurry up and stick the paper on your face!”

Maxton furrowed his brows slightly, staring at the piece of paper with the doodle of four turtles indisgust.

His eyes glinted with mischief when he spotted Rhonda out of the corner of his eye.

Stepping forward, he pulled her over and said, “Crouch down.”

Rhonda was somewhat surprised. It's the first time this little rascal has ever taken the initiative tointeract so closely with me!
