Chapter 115

What kind of heartbreaking truth is hidden in it?

After a moment of silence, Bailey said, “Vero, since he's from Hallsbay, and since you're planning totake a trip back here, take some time to meet him. He has the right to know that the kid exists, andsaving Zephyr is his responsibility as his father.”

Veronique let out a soft sigh before saying gloomily, “I'll think about it. Zephyr has been thinking of meas his aunt all these years, I... I don't know if he can accept the truth. This is all my fault. To protect theRevelle family's reputation, I allowed my grandpa and my dad to tell the public that the kid was mysister's. Bay, I really regret it.”

Bailey did not know what to say either.

Whose shoes should she put herself into to console Veronique?

Should she say that they were right to do that?

Yet, the mother and the son saw each other every day. How ridiculous was it for Veronique to hear herown son call her his aunt?

Should she say that they had done wrong since the start?

That would only make Veronique feel even more remorseful.

“My dear, you'll have to close an eye on this. You're Zephyr's emotional support. What is he going to doif you collapse like this?”

“Yes. Every time I hit a dead end, I'd think about you in the past. It's then I'll realize that my pain andmisery are nothing in comparison to yours. Bay, I'm so glad that I can be your friend. Being friends withyou is the luckiest thing that has happened to me in this life of mine.”

Bailey could not help but chuckle at that. “Perhaps mothers are meant to be strong. I used to be anaive girl who could do nothing but let her stepmother and stepsister bully her. After having Zayron andSusan, I finally know what responsibility is. They're the reason I've been working so hard all theseyears. Fortunately, God was kind enough to let the old Bailey turn over a new leaf. Vero, you'll be ableto do that one day, too.”

“All right. I'll heed your words.”

After ending the call, Bailey stood in front of the floor-to-ceiling window for a few more minutes beforeturning around to study the office.

The room was huge and spacious—its size was comparable to the secretary's office next door, whichwas meant to house dozens of people at once.

The office went for a fashionable but minimalistic design, and it managed to pull off elegance at thesame time. The racks around the room were also filled with precious antiques and document folders.

A large curved desk was placed in the middle of the room, facing the entrance. Behind Bailey were thetowering buildings, and she could take in the beautiful city view if she turned around to look out thewindow.

Bailey ambled over to the back of the desk before sitting down on the chair. When she raised her head, she could see the CEO's office opposite the door.

Her angle allowed her to see the slender figure going through documents by his table.

In other words, everything she did there would be seen by a certain man.

Ha. Is this what he meant by a professional relationship? Isn't this a little too intimate?

After spending the morning reading the files, Bailey could somewhat grasp what kinds of responsibilityshe had. novelbin

She was the lead designer of the headquarters. Indeed, it was a managerial position—she would bemanaging thousands of fashion and jewelry designers of Luther Group's various branches across theglobe.

It was no surprise Jessica had looked at her with hostility.

If Bailey were her—if someone were to snatch away something she wanted for years—she would havefought her in desperation, too.

No one was a saint, and no one could do things that only saints would do—understanding andforgiving. That was something Bailey knew well.

Nevertheless, the strong survived.

Bailey had given the other woman a fair fighting chance, but unfortunately, the other woman had beentoo stupid; Jessica had chosen to use dirty tricks to win her instead of proper methods, so she had noone to blame but herself for being suspended.

Felicity was a fool, and so was Caridee; both had been easily manipulated. However, Artemis was nota fool. The man could observe everything with his sharp eyes, and no one could pull any tricks aroundhim.

“What are you thinking about?” A magnetic voice came from behind her.

Subconsciously, she blurted out, “Thinking about a villain.”

It was then she finally snapped back to her senses and realized that she had said something withoutfiltering it first.

D*mn it! This is bad. The one behind me should be... the villain himself, right? Um...

Artemis arched a brow and curled his lips.

Mm, a good answer.

Even though he knew that it was highly likely that the woman was actually cursing at him, he was stilldelighted. If she was constantly thinking about him, that meant that he would not take long beforewinning her heart over.

“What are you looking at?”

The two were a hair's breadth away, and Bailey dared not turn around. She was terrified that a repeatof the awkward situation like what had happened back then at the condominium would occur.

“I'm looking at the streets. Standing on the top floor of Hallsbay's landmark and looking down on thebustling city makes me feel great. It's only thanks to you, Mr. Luther, that I have the chance to look atthe city and its people from all the way up here.”

As she spoke, Artemis' gaze was fixed on her fair, slender neck.

He took two steps forward despite himself. His broad chest lightly pressed against her back, and eventhrough the fabric, he could sense the aloof aura she was exuding.

Bailey stiffened instantly and furrowed her brows. If she had not had the courage to move earlier, theircurrent pose no longer allowed her to move even if she mustered the courage to.

If she were to lean back a little, she would end up in his arms—it would be as if she had thrown herselfat him.

“You've been in the office for the entire morning. What do you think about it? Is there anything you wantto change?”

Bailey clenched her fists and said as calmly as she could, “It feels great. It's comfortable and spacious.Thank you, Mr. Luther.” Then she lowered her head to look at her watch. “It'll be eleven in ten minutes;it's almost lunchtime. To express my gratitude to you, Mr. Luther, please let me treat you to lunch.Though I think you might need to get your phone and jacket from your office first.”

If she could put it in other words, she would have said, “Yours truly has offered to treat you to a meal,

so can you get the hell away from me now?”

Artemis chuckled softly. A second after his deep voice traveled into her ears, his minty scent waftedacross her nose.

Bailey's expression changed.

This d*mn man. He's leaning against me even more. How dare he flirt with his employee in his office?Has he no shame?

Artemis was shameless, indeed, for men who clung too tightly to their dignities tended not to courtanyone successfully.

When he leaned closer to her ear, he briefly brushed his lips against her earlobe and whispered, “Howcan I have my lead designer treat me to a meal? Let me do that instead. It'll be your welcome party.”

Bailey was a second away from an angry outburst.

However, the man had trapped her in her spot. If she were to lose her temper, only one consequenceawaited her—an even more intimate touch with him.

“Holy sh*t, are you two making out?”
