Chapter 922 The Promise

Upon hearing that, Maggie could not help but panic. She could tell Lydia was clearly interested in Alexduring the birthday banquet.

Maggie, being perceptive as she was, could sense Lydia’s feelings for the man despite how subtle thesigns

were.novelbin

What surprised her more was the realization that Alex had made a promise to Lydia. This revelationleft. Maggie conflicted.

Normally, Maggie would strategize how to handle other women competing for Alex’s attention. However, Lydia was someone she had known since childhood, and their bond was akin to that ofsisters. Maggie dreaded the thought of their relationship deteriorating due to their shared interest inAlex.

Giles also started to worry about his young granddaughter, who still behaved immaturely. When Alexand Maggie returned to Nebula City previously, Lydia wanted to tag along. In the end, he had to step into stop

her.

The girl became moody ever since Alex and Maggie left, and she had even absentmindedly writtenAlex’s name on her book when she was in class.

Giles, being an astute old man, knew what was going through his granddaughter’s mind, but there wasnothing much he could do about it.

If Lydia were to make any unreasonable demands, Alex would find himself in a quandary because aman of integrity like him would feel compelled to honor his promise.

Richard, on the other hand, would certainly express his disapproval and criticize Lydia for beingimmature and making inappropriate demands. Moreover, such a situation could also affect therelationship between the two families.

Giles whispered a prayer in his heart. Lydia, you better not utter anything foolish!

As the tension in the air grew, Lydia extended her hand and firmly grasped Alex’s. Giles grewincreasingly concerned upon seeing her action. Is she really going to do something stupid?

“What I

Instinctively, Alex tried to free his hand from her grip, but before he could do so, she spoke up. wantyou to do is simple. I want you to live happily ever after with Maggie and never let her down. Otherwise,I won’t let you off easily!”

With that, Lydia grabbed Maggie’s hand and placed it in Alex’s before retracting her own hand.

“Thank you, Lydia.” Relieved, Maggie held Alex’s hand tightly and expressed her gratitude to Lydiafrom the bottom of her heart.

Initially, Alex was rather nervous because he perceived Lydia as a headstrong individual who would goto great lengths to achieve her desires. He did not anticipate her to show such sensibility andthoughtfulness in this situation.

“I assure you, I’ll fulfill your request. I’ll still treat Maggie with utmost care even if you don’t tell me to,”Alex replied affirmatively.

Those resolute words from Alex stirred a sense of melancholy within Lydia. She could not help but feelenvious of Maggie, wishing deep down that Alex would treat her in the same manner.

The Promise

Her grandfather had once told her he would give her anything she desired in this world. How Lydiawished she could tell him that there was nothing she had desired more than to be with Alex.

However, Lydia understood that was beyond Richard’s control. Moreover, she realized that forcing Alexto stay by her side would be futile, as true happiness could not be forced.

In the past, she had no idea how to hide her emotions, but she had gradually learned to suppress herfeelings. Does that mean I’ve grown up? Does that mean I’m no longer the carefree person I used tobes

Lydia’s heart sank as she witnessed Alex and Maggie walking away together. She longed to tell himthat she had become mature because of him.

Among all the people present, Giles was the only one who truly understood his granddaughter’sfeelings at that moment. He could not help but sigh, for he felt it was such a pity that his granddaughter, who had just reached the tender age of knowing what it was like to be in love, had developed feelingsfor someone who would never reciprocate her love.

It was not within the power of an elderly man like him to meddle or provide any assistance in suchmatters. I can only wish that Lydia will eventually move on from this one-sided love.
